It is no question that Adele is a global superstar, she is not a "trendy pop star", I believe Adele is a musical genius who reaches beyond pop stardom, she belongs in a singer/songwriter's category, going up with the women who came before her, and along with her, those acts her name belongs with are Carly Simon, Carol King, Jewel, Alanis Morissette and her contemporaries such as Katy Perry, Pink, Kelly Clarkson and even Taylor Swift. 30 is the fourth album by the British singer/songwriter and on this album Adele has reached into more places musically and this album shows much growth, though I feel the album is heavy with ballads and seems radio has only embraced more of her ballads, since her hit single Rolling In The Deep, but this album has a recent upbeat single out called Oh My God, which is the album's second single and the 5th track on the album. If you purchase the album in hard copy from most of your retailers, or here on Amazon, you wil get a total of 12 tracks, but if you decide to purchase the album at Target, you will get 3 bonus tracks not included here from Amazon or your other retailers such as Walmart. This album explores some very deep R&B moments, especially with track #3, My Little Love, a direction I think Adele needs to explore more often, she pulls this beautiful deep track very well, it has some spoken moments as if out of a movie or out of a memory, you hear Adele's voice along with a child and it is very haunting and effective, it has a light layer of gospel moments with the backing vocals, not an uplifting type of gospel but a very soft layer, which works brilliantly, and in some ways the track also reminds me of the same effects used by Pink Floyd, as in the spoken parts, these spoken parts are with her real son and it is a deep confession of her feelings and getting in touch with her son about the divorce of his father, one of the most unique tracks on the album. The upbeats on this album are very refreshing, they sound happier than the previous album, Cry Out is a great example, and judging by the title you would instantly think, oh no, not another ballad, but you would be wrong when it really gets into the song. Very well produced, great effects of deep throwbacks, using a very jazzy feel, touches of R&B and some soul, and the harmonies in the chorus really pop, and it is similar to some of the things Christina Aguilera has done in past songs. Oh God has similar feels to Rolling In The Deep, which is the 5th track as previously mentioned, it sort of takes a Lady Gaga direction, which works very well with Adele, and the song has possible remixabilty for the clubs, but the standard album version and single have a joyful soul to it in the choruses, and it gets stuck in your head and you only want more of this hit single. You will probably be hitting repeat several times on this pop smash. Can I Get It, the 6th track on the album sways Adele into an acoustic direction, but using upbeat moments, Adele stays on par with the upbeat feels and includes whistling in the song, which kicks this catchy song up a notch and it is layered with great hooks instrumentally, the lyrics and the flawless vocals make you want to sing along, and it will get stuck in your head, and yet another slight thowback to Rolling In The Deep, the same effects of bass drum that hit single had. Track # 7 takes us to Church Adele style, the song is called I Drink Wine, and this soulful piano piece goes into a direction Sir Elton John did so many times in the 1970s, you would think Elton himself wrote it musically! This is a great example of the brilliant songwriter Adele is and this is what real songwriters are very much made of, it is not about hits, it's about the music in your soul and this track is for real deep lovers of music. The lyrics are very well written but this is music that is for your soul, if you are more about the depth of a songwriter, well this song is certainly as much for you as it is for me, because this feeds my musical cravings. The 8th track on the album, All Night Parking with Erroll Garner is very deep with the R&B feels, and this nearly does not sound like Adele, it has a very throwback feel to Erykah Badu, and to mention Adele and Erykah, I would not have thought so, until this moment, and again Adele brings brilliance to her craft, and I can easily see Adele in some smokey night club at the piano on this gem, but the only shame on this, the track is too short, I would have loved to have seen it be a bit longer. We are led to the 9th track and Adele brings us female empowerment in a soulful ballad called A Woman Like Me, and this song is about the unhappy man she is with and Adele is saying you have not had a strong woman, a woman who is able to put up with the man who is shut down, who won't open up, and most of you women who have men like this in your life, who currently do, you will relate to this track. The album tends to trail down the ballad path as the album draws to a close, Hold On and To Be Loved are done in the typical style Adele is known for with her ballads, but the closing track, Love Is A Game goes into a very classic direction, this is where the pop star is not there, this is too sophiscated for that, she goes into the classics like The Supremes and many others in the days of Motown, a place I like Adele in, it is a very nice homage to a decade and style of music long before her time. Adele hooks you from the beginning of the opening track, Strangers By Nature and leads you into the hit single Easy On Me, and this album has a great flow musically, and with an album like this, I think Adele will only have you craving another album of this nature. I have given this album 5 stars, but it deserves a full10 stars, overall, a winning piece of work that should see Grammy nominations next year, this album has CLASSIC written all over it.

Play Video It's beautiful, pristine and perfectly pressed. The sound is so crisp, it was the first thing I played in my new turntable. It is 2 records: 3 songs per side and they're very well packaged, the album art is beautiful.
