These are my favorite knives, they wash well, are extremely well made, very sharp and are well balanced in the hand. The handles are beautiful, no rust and this set would make a great wedding gift! This is my 4th set of knives from them, they have a knife for every task, you won’t be disappointed.

Click to play video I have been using these daily for several weeks now and I can say confidently that these are excellent knives. I am extremely impressed with the handle. Excellent ergonomics. Great weight, design, and handle/blade balance. Very sharp and will easily replace my Wusthoff set but...I need to find a block or magnet for storage. The blades are handsome and weighty. These are very sharp and they need to be carefully monitored when not in use.

Very nice nice said extremely sharp looks amazing. It’s a great value for the quality have not seen it. Rust once since I’ve gotten it. And very high-quality and the grip fits nicely in my hand. I recommend it might be the last knife that you ever need as long as you don’t maintain them properly.

This is a very nice knife set. I was a little apprehensive about the matte finish being clingy, but it looks nice and seems to have no effect on use or cleaning. The style and weight is very much an east meets west which makes a nice compromise. I'm coming to this set from a Mercer Culinary set. Pros: Sharp and very even factory edge. The knives are beautiful. The balance is just right and the handles are very comfortable for both my wife and I. Cons: The heel on the utility knife (and the paring knife) is very sharp and east to slip a finger on to. I nicked myself once and may have to change the grind a bit here. The Chef and santoku knives are the tiniest bit more curved than I prefer and I may start adjusting that on each sharpen.

I recently decided to upgrade my kitchen arsenal with this 5 Pieces Knife Set, and I've got to say, it's been a real treat for my culinary adventures. As someone who spends a fair amount of time in the kitchen, I was looking for a set that could handle everything from delicate herb chopping to tackling tough cuts of meat, and this Japanese High Carbon Stainless Steel set has not disappointed. First off, let's talk about the sharpness. These knives are no joke they're razor-sharp right out of the box. I've been using them for everything from slicing tomatoes paper thin to breaking down whole chickens, and they glide through food with minimal effort. The high carbon stainless steel blade holds its edge well, which means less time sharpening and more time cooking. The ergonomic Pakkawood handles are another standout feature. They're not only beautiful to look at but also comfortable to hold, even during long prep sessions. I've got a bit of arthritis in my hands, and I've found these knives much easier to use than my old set. The balance between the blade and handle is spot-on, making precise cuts a breeze. I appreciate the variety in this set. The chef's knife has become my go to for most tasks, while the santoku is perfect for vegetables. The utility knife comes in handy for smaller jobs, and the paring knife is great for intricate work like deveining shrimp or hulling strawberries. The bread knife, with its serrated edge, makes short work of even the crustiest loaves. Now, it's not all perfect. While I love the look of the Pakkawood handles, I've noticed they require a bit more care than synthetic handles. They need to be hand-washed and dried immediately to prevent water damage. It's not a deal-breaker, but it does mean a bit more maintenance. Another minor gripe is the lack of a honing steel in the set. Given the quality of these knives, I would have expected one to be included. I ended up purchasing one separately to keep the blades in top condition. I've been using these knives for everything from everyday meal prep to more elaborate cooking projects. They've made chopping vegetables for stir-fries a joy, and carving roasts has never been easier. I've even used them for some light food presentation work, creating garnishes that actually look like the pictures in cookbooks. In conclusion, this 5 Pieces Knife Set has significantly upped my kitchen game. The combination of razor-sharp blades, comfortable handles, and versatile selection makes it a solid choice for both home cooks and aspiring chefs. While the maintenance requirements and lack of a honing steel are slight drawbacks, the overall quality and performance of these knives more than make up for it. If you're looking to invest in a set of knives that can handle a wide range of kitchen tasks with precision and style, this set is definitely worth considering. It's transformed my food prep from a chore into a pleasure, and I find myself looking forward to cooking now more than ever.

Vey well made. Love the look and feel of the curved contoured wooden handles. Appreciate the variety in this set for different jobs and different ingredients. Sharp and cuts well. One thing to note is that because of the angle of bolster (where the blade meets the handle), these knives may not fit the best in certains kinds of knife blocks or knife holders. Not a huge deal, just something to keep in mind.

As someone who likes cooking I am always in need of sharp quality knives that makes my life in the kitchen easier, and this set has done a great job at that. First of all the design of these knives is quite nice and sleek. The handles are pretty comfortable even for someone like me with large hands. The handles are easy to hold onto while at the same time offering good protection to your fingers with all knives having a good finger stop in case of slipping. The wood looks nice and well attached to the blade. The knives a good size and balance to them, giving you great control when cutting. These knives are very sharp. I did the shaving test and they all shaved my arm with no pressure at all, which exceeds my expectations as reaching this level of sharpness is hard. The blades have held their sharpness quite well and I don't see nor feel any significant dullness so far. This is what I would expect from knives in this price range and so far they have delivered. These knives need good care in order to keep them in optimal condition and extend their life. I wash them in the sink right after use never use the dishwasher as the chemicals can damage them, specially if the handle is wood. Do not cut with these on a hard surface because you may chip or damage your blade.

The "HOSHANHO 5 Pieces Knife Set, Japanese High Carbon Stainless Steel Kitchen Knife Set" includes 5 very nicely crafted knives, that come sharpened very well out of the box. On the larger knives, the balance point is in a great place for me, up high on the bolster. I really dig the handles on these things-- beautiful to look at, comfortable in the hand, and well finished for durability. The curved handle design isn't ideal in the paring knife for my taste, but they did have a design choice to make to make it match the others, so I can understand the choice. For a general kitchen set, the inclusion of a fillet knife is a bit of a strange choice-- most home kitchens would probably use a serrated bread knife more often (which is available to buy separately). Not crazy about the knife block options here (available for purchase separately)-- essentially the only choices form this company are the magnetic type, either free standing or wall mount versus a traditional block. Probably my biggest beef with this set is the marketing to make it appear to be a Japanese knife set-- it is manufactured in China (read the "fine print"), which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but don't try to make it seem like it is made in Japan. From a value standpoint, one might be better off going all in and getting the 16 pieces set which includes additional knives (steak knives, sheers, etc.) . Another option-- the other 5 piece set that includes the bread knife PLUS a magnetic knife block-- at the time of this review that 6 piece set costs about $40 less than this 5 piece set does.

Click to play video “My knife” is a Shur 8in Chef knife. That one knife cost almost as much as this whole set. I mention that because I’m picky when it comes to knives, and I know what a good knife is. I didn’t expect this set to live up to that quality, but they come close. They are a little on the heavier side, but if you’re not a full-time chef, using them all day long, that shouldn’t matter as much. The Chef’s knife feels good in the hand and is well balanced. The Santoku knife is great for chopping vegetables. The fillet knife is nice and long but its not as flexible as I would like. The Utility knife is handy for smaller jobs and the Paring knife can be a little thinner but works fine. As you can see in my video, the chef’s knife just glides through the meat in one stroke. It’s the same with vegetables. They are actually scary sharp out of the box. Time will tell how long it will keep its edge. That is what sets the cheaper knives apart from the $230 Shun’s. The expensive knives keep their edge. With this set, so far, so good. It’s definitely a great set to fill in those other styles of knives I didn’t have The box they came in is “quality”, making it something that is very giftable. I highly suggest you get a good diamond stone sharpening system if you like sharp knives. No matter what you get, it will eventually need sharpening. This set is very worthy of a 5 star rating, especially for the price.
