this thing is great, another win for 8bitdo it seems most of the negative reviews are about lacking wireless capability on XB systems _ yes, it bears the logo (for that I'm conflicted, as other devices in this line are 8bitdo branded) but it works wonderfully with a SteamOS portable & 2.4 adapter docked at home, and well enough when switching to Bluetooth during travel. it also works with well with a docked Nintendo Switch. +the construction & detail are wonderful +/-though not having run a Windows diog on it, Hall sticks are very responsive, without drift, if not almost too sensitive +it's got some heft to it, and feels "quality" the same can be said about the force feedback +triggers are satisfying & responsive, with racers incredibly fun to play +bumpers have an incredibly satisfying "click" when pressed +mic mute is a switch instead of a button, and is non illuminated +/-if your hands are dry, it absolutely feels like it could shoot out of your hands, but thankfully doesn't. this is scary. -paddles aren't bindable (inactive, actually) on SteamOS with 2.4 adapter docked, but mostly functional on Bluetooth +/-Dpad is really great feeling, but diagonals (ie -> + ^ etc.) have sometimes been unregistered, noticeable in high intensity sidescrollers. probably in fighters, too. dreamy for grid-based strategy/RPGs though, or any game involving heavy item management. +battery life is spectacular it's great for the price AND you can use it in multiple platforms. get it in something dark. really, anything but stain-magnet white.

I've had this sitting on my desk when not in use which was fatal for every other controller I own with inevitable dust getting into the sticks, but this one has yet to drift. Other than that, the D-Pad and LB/RB are clicky, the face buttons are tactile and not mushy, and the control sticks move very smoothly. Triggers do have a very high resolution, so it is somewhat responsive to depth of press. I don't play racing sims, but I imagine it would work well enough? It turns on automatically and connects to the dongle when I pick it up off the stand, 10/10 very convenient. My only annoyances are the bright white light strip on the stand when it's fully charged and the small bright white circular light on the front of the controller. It feels WAY brighter than the soft amber of partially charged. And I have been bothered by the blue-tinted eye-searing nature when playing at night when holding the controller, or even just the stand shining through my glass desk, lighting up a whole corner of my room when I'm trying to sleep. Normally I cover that stuff up with electrical tape, which will look kind of bad on the otherwise beautiful stand. As the title of the item states, it only works with the Xbox wired. Doesn't bother me because I don't have one, but this could be a deal breaker for Xbox owners. For PC and Steam Deck, I use the 2.4ghz wireless with the dongle. You can either connect the dongle directly or put it inside the dock and use the included USB cable to connect the dock to the PC. For Android, Bluetooth is the most convenient option.

I know some people prefer the shape of the Xbox controller, but this is my first time using a controller with a more "straight" handle design. In my opinion, it’s more comfortable because I can easily use any button. The material is excellent, and there’s no noise like with some cheaper controllers. Compared to the official Xbox controller, the 8BitDo feels a little less "premium," but it’s more comfortable. In my opinion, it’s better because, after 1 or 2 hours of playing, you’ll feel very satisfied with this material. Meanwhile, with the official Xbox controller, your hands might feel more tired.

TLDR: Trigger Vibration does not act like Xbox controllers when using on PC, deal breaker if you need it for racing games like Forza. Otherwise, great controller. Update!!! 8bitdo Support asked me to update the Firmware again and then recommended I request a replacement after that didn't work. Got the replacement, updated the firmware and tried it out both wired and wireless, and the trigger vibration still doesn't perform the way it should. I noticed in the Ultimate Software when testing trigger vibration that holding the right trigger would have it vibrate for a long period before it stops, while the left one would stop vibrating after about 2 seconds, and then the timing would shorten and shorten unless I let it sit for a few seconds. I wonder if the vibration motors are overheating or something. Either way, returning replacement and getting my money back. I own multiple 8bitdo controllers at this point and love their products. I have the Pro 2, the black Ultimate Bluetooth for my Switch, and the purple Ultimate 2.4G for PC, so there wasn't much of a reason to get another version of the Ultimate. That was until they announced that the Xbox controllers have trigger vibration, which is a feature that is incredibly important to me. I play a lot of Forza Motorsport on my laptop and I play with ABS off. If the brakes lock up when braking hard, the official Xbox controller's trigger vibration would come on and let me know to apply less pressure, and I could use this to adjust braking mid-corner. I can't play without this feature, so my only options until now was an official controller, which suffer from stick snapback, or the FlyDigi Vader 3 Pro, which is my current daily driver when playing Forza. When I found out this controller offered trigger vibration, I was super excited and decided to get one when the money was available. Opening the box, the controller was beautiful and had a nice weight thanks to the trigger motors, and the provided cable was a solid 10 feet which was a nice inclusion for the people that will be playing on Xbox consoles. After a full battery charge, I installed the version of the Ultimate Software exclusively for the Xbox controllers, and updated the firmware to the most recent version. When booting up Forza and hitting the track, I noticed that the trigger vibration would come on when I would start locking up the brakes, but if I reduced trigger input and then applied more to adjust my steering angle, the trigger wouldn't vibrate even at full brake lock. I have no idea if this is part of the design of the controller and isn't meant to be truly simulating the Xbox's trigger vibration, or if my controller is just faulty out of the box. I have tried it both plugged in and wireless, and the mode doesn't appear to change how it functions. I have emailed 8bitdo Customer Support and hope to get answers, and I will update this review accordingly. Other than the trigger vibration, the new Dpad and bumpers feel very nice over the older models, but I haven't given them a full test to see how they actually read inputs. If you don't have a version of the Ultimate or play exclusively on Xbox and don't need the trigger vibration, I can highly recommend this controller if you don't mind being hardwired to your Xbox or not having Bluetooth for PC connection. For me, the triggers are a deal breaker. I will be returning the controller unless 8bitdo support has some form of fix that I can do myself. I will be returning to my Vader 3 Pro for the time being. Thanks for reading all the way through if you did, and sorry for the rambling.

Not necessarily. Decided to grab a 2nd one of these for my PC and it's a little bit silly the way you have to connect additional controllers. Multiple controllers can't connect to the same 2.4g wireless receiver. Each controller needs its own receiver plugged in. I don't know why this has to be the way. The Xbox controllers can connect as many as you want to their wireless receiver. It's not the end of the world as you can just use the 1 charging dock as long as both receivers are connected. Haven't noticed any interference from the receivers being plugged in alongside eachother and the controllers connect automatically when you take it out the dock.

It’s a must have for pc gamers. Feels great in hand much more premium than a normal Xbox controller even
