I got this for my grandson's 9th birthday as he loved to play my ukulele when he came to visit. I was pleased at the quality of the instrument. The intonation is not bad. I think if he really practices on this, we will upgrade the strings and it should sound even better. I noticed several negative reviews indicating the instrument did not stay in tune - which is true. However, it's the strings that don't stay in tune, not the ukulele. All ukulele strings, even the expensive ones, need a period of constant tuning before they finally stabilize and stay in tune. I purchased this instrument about two weeks before his birthday and I've tuned it up everyday and now it stays in tune just fine. The little tuner works just like my expensive one. Besides the ukulele, it can also be used to tune a guitar, violin and bass. It's a little flimsy but if a person is careful, it should last a long time. The gig bag is sufficient. It does not have much padding (few do) to protect the instrument but it works well. It would have been nice if this kit also included an instruction book (or even a pamphlet) to show some basic chords and a few songs the student could look at to get started. Other than that, I would highly recommend this kit for someone who wants to get started in playing this fun and versatile instrument.

I got this 21" Economic Soprano Ukulele Start Pack by ADM for my wife who is a musician of many sorts. This review is based on her experience using the product. Ukuleles are a string instrument made from a hollow soundboard and four strings. They look like a mini guitar. They have an hourglass base and a fingerboard neck. Often, ukulele manufacturers make the strings from stainless steel or nylon, and the instrument's tuning should be (in order) the notes of G, C, E and A. Most ukuleles have wood construction. However, musicians may find less expensive versions built from plastic. There are a variety of models including: soprano, concert, armadillo, pineapple, banjo tenor and baritone. This Ukulele is a soprano version that has a basswood body and nylon strings. As a musician my wife said that that this is quality constructed instrument. It's not top of the line mind you but it's a good solid instrument perfect for starting out and beyond. Other features of the instrument include a black neck fingerboard with sturdy brass frets (a total of 12 altogether). The frets are marked at the 5th, 7th & 10th levels. The tuners are chrome plated metal with plastic buttons and look like that of a guitar. They are just as sturdy as the rest of the instrument. This set comes with a pink holding bag, a shoulder strap that can be taken on and off, 2 picks, extra white nylon string in case a string needs to be replaced, an orange polishing cloth to keep the instrument shining and a digital tuner. They even included the battery for the tuner. The instrument is remarkably lightweight. This in combination with the nylon strings makes this instrument a good choice for children who are learning. Aside from the features there is another huge consideration that speaks of what a nice instrument this is. It's a soprano ukulele. It has the highest pitch of all of the ukulele's. It has a clear and joyful sound but has limited resonance and amplification. This is the kind of instrument that you would use in small entertainment venues and/or for personal enjoyment in the home. A few things to keep in mind in regards to this instrument. The strings need to be tightened when it arrives. You do this by turning the 4 white knobs towards you. Turning them away from you loosens the strings. Unless you have an excellent ear you WILL need to use the digital tuner. Figuring that out can be a bit of a challenge if you have never done it before so I suggest that you consult a musical store for a one on one instruction or watch a you tube video. Once you do it one time it comes naturally after that. The most tuning the instrument needs is when you first get it. After that you can pick a set frequency and just do it at the designated times. There is one thing about ukulele's in general that most certainly applies to this instrument as well. Their sound quality increases with time as they age. What it sounds like when it first arrives isn't exactly what it will sound like a few weeks or months down the road. With time the sound becomes richer. My wife just received the instrument a few days ago so she's still in the initial fine tuning stage. Right now the sound quality is lovely and she stated it was easy to play. She recommends using the picks because they help protect the skin on the fingers from irritation. The only improvement that my wife could suggest was the carrying case. She felt that if the case were firmer that it would protect the instrument better from damage. This is truly a beautiful instrument. It comes in a variety of colors. My wife's is pink. The price is affordable. It would be a wonderful gift for child or adult alike. My wife specifically mentioned that this would be perfect to use in schools during music class. Usable by musicians of ALL levels. It really provides so much for such a small instrument! My wife saw Tiny Tim sing "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" while playing the ukulele as a child. This whole experience has been both fun an nostalgic for her. I was provided this product at no cost to me in exchange for an honest unbiased evaluation.

Can’t be used by adults but great one for young kids to learn. I found the strings to be little soft which is great for kids hands. It appeared bigger in the picture. Great value for money and the tuner works really well.

Play Video This ukulele is perfect for beginners, both children and adults! This soprano sized ukulele comes package nicely, in a super duty cardboard box, so it arrives in perfect condition. This kit includes everything you will need to get started, plus a few extra things, including: One soprano ukulele, neck strap, 2 picks, electronic tuner, polishing cloth, and ukulele bag. Upon receiving your ukulele, plan on spending around 5-10 minutes adjusting the strings, and tuning it. New ukuleles don't hold their tune very well for the first few weeks as they need to adjust to the temperature, humidity, and stretching....so plan on tuning it before playing it every time. You also have an electronic tuner, with battery included to help you find the correct notes on each string. The strings were loose as they came, but now that it is properly tuned, they feel great, and this ukulele is sounding great! Beginners will appreciate the picks, so their fingers don't get worn out from practice. I have really enjoyed playing around on this cute little ukulele, and think it's a great kit for the awesome price. The paint job is really smooth, shiny, and looks awesome. The sounds is good to for an inexpensive ukulele. Tuners are usually an extra ten dollars or so, so considering all the pieces of this kit, this is a great deal. Also included are a few extra strings, in case you have one break. But I haven't, so that's a good sign! Ukuleles are fun for children, and adults, so anyone will love this classic instrument! I did receive this product at a discount or free for an honest evaluation, however that hasn't influenced my thoughts. I haven't found any problems, defects, or quality problems, so I can honestly recommend this ukulele!

Purchased this for our Grandaughter. Took heed of the reviews mentioning tuning problems but have experience with nylon string guitars so expected they would stretch. Yes, tuning can be challenging and the strings will stretch (and knots tighten) when new but they should settle with some time. The instrument itself is certainly good enough for the price and is playable. The extras (strings, gig bag, pick, tuner & polishing cloth) that come in the package are also good value. I was actually impressed with the clip on tuner. Works well. Hard to knock this kit for the price. If it gets dropped into the bottom of the toy box, no big deal. Alternatively, it is actually good enough to learn on if she so chooses. My wife enjoyed my strumming of "Somewhere over the rainbow" as I was tuning it up.

We love this instrument. Arrived intact, has a cute functional soft case. I don't think we would ever use the neck strap but it's a nice touch. Strings are like any stringed instrument, they need to be re-tuned frequently especially at the beginning. We are familiar with stringed instruments so this didn't bother us at all. Great way to introduce a ukulele to the family.

A great ukulele to learn on, if you can't afford a fancier one. At first I had to do a quick tune before I use it (every day or two) but the strings do stretch and stay tuned a bit longer over time. It only takes 30 seconds to tune anyway so I don't see what the big deal is with others who complain about it - it's a $30 ukulele after all. It sounds pretty good. And the value can't be beat, for everything you get in the package.

Good uku for beginners. Strings are very cheap, you have to change it if you don't want to tune it all the time. Shipping very long because of Covid.
