After giving Spectrum my MAC number which they promptly connected, I was alarmed that it took one hour to reboot itself, meaning the yellow light kept flashing during that hour before turning to blue. Apparently this isn’t unusual with newer technology. The best part is that I have doubled my internet speed. I have 400 mbps plan and on my iPhone I’m getting 484 and in the 380’s on my other tablets and laptop. Also wpa3 security protection. And I like the clean uncluttered look quite sleek.

There are others with the same problems I'm having with this product. If you google Arris Surfboard G34 ranging disconnect or T3 disconnect or missing required option 82. You will find that several others have been experiencing constant disconnects from this modem. I've had 2 other modems before this one and my last modem rarely disconnected. It just works. It is likely not a line problem because nothing changed with the line. I bought this modem because of DOCSIS 3.1 and my ISP only giving the top rated speed to supported DOCSIS 3.1 modems. Otherwise, my previous modem worked very well. The main issue with this router seems to be it's DHCP server and assigning addresses. When I first checked the settings for the DHCP, it turns out that the default lease time was 1 hour. So every hour, it will assign a new IP address for connected devices. Those v6 errors happen when the modem is assigning new addresses. I am still not able to fix this even after increasing the lease time to 3 weeks. It will still produce the same errors because it is assigning a new IP address. This happens daily at least once. ***UPDATE*** I may have found the fix for the disconnects. I changed the setting for WIFI and the DHCP for LAN. WIFI settings I changed was, "disable" all channel auto-select. Choose a channel manually. For IPv4/IPv6 LAN settings. I left both DHCP servers enabled, disabled DNS relay, selected Get DNS automatically. -- Why did I do this setting? When Googling the error events from the router, I found that a lot of people had the same issues. Quite a few of them had a similar situation to mine... My last modem never had disconnect issues so how can it be the coax line? Similar error messages etc. The techs that answer the questions about the errors causing the disconnects would all say that the errors were "line" problems so it must be the line (Coax cable) that was faulty. Perhaps too many amplifiers or splitters. T3 is a line error but the other errors give hints. Also, the fact that my previous modem did not have connection issues show that it is not a coax line problem. A lot of the errors were DHCPv6 missing required option 82. All of these facts combine point to the fact that the router/modem is the issue. Something in the setting had trouble keeping the connection to the devices (phone/computer). The internet itself was fine connecting to the modem, it is the line connection from modem to the devices. It was an IPv6 issue in the end. Because IPv6 implementation with ISP is relatively new and also, IPv6 does not have option 82 but the error reported this. So it must mean that either the phone or the computer connection is the issue. The issue was probably the phone. Because the phone goes to sleep and sometimes disconnects from wifi. The wifi settings on the router's end was set to auto select channel. So when I wake the phone to use it, it probably reconnects to the wifi using the last channel or a congested channel. When the router sends a signal to ISP (or phone?) to check if an assigned IPv6 address is still valid, no response is given. This causes the router to stall because it is waiting for the address validation. Sort of like an automatic door with a broken sensor. It won't let traffic through because it doesn't sense that anything is in front of it. This would cause connection loss to BOTH computer on LAN and the phone on Wifi. This is because the issue affects the DHCP server in the modem/router which provisions addresses to both LAN and Wifi. - After changing the wifi and DHCP settings to the ones above, much less disconnects. It was every 1 - 3 hours before. Now, my connection is stable most of the day. Maybe 1 disconnect that lasts 2 minutes. If you have the same connection issue with this modem, you can test by disabling your wifi and checking how long you go without disconnecting.

Bought this item twice. First time it was used, tried to save some money, ended up being defective/wouldn't activate - bought another unit which ended up working. First time using Arris, have heard mixed reviews, but overall it's faster than my previous Netgear unit, so far so good, easy to connect and use, quick reboot, strong signal strength, and good value for what you get.

This review is for the Arris Surfboard G34. I purchased this combo modem/router to replace my old one. When using Cox, note that you can't just plugin the new device and start using it -- you always need to call their technical support team to have them unregister your old device and register your new one. The setup process was easy and straight forward. The most difficult party was getting through to Cox technical support. My previous modem/router used DOCSIS 3.0 technology, so this upgrade gave me a 45% increase in download speed and a 366% increase in upload speed; all without changing my service plan. I saw lots of negative reviews for this device regarding the intermittent internet connections or the failure to connect to the internet. I have not personally experienced either of these issues. For buys who have this concern, if possible, I recommend retaining your old hardware for at least 30 days just in case you need to revert back. The product offers an optional mobile app to manage the network. The mobile app has very bad reviews. My recommendation is to configure your wireless network using your web browser first, then configure your mobile app after. Most of the negative reviews appeared to be from users attempting to perform the initial configuration using the mobile app. PROS: - Easy to install. - Fast wireless speeds. - Optional mobile app. - Modem and wireless router combined into a single hardware device. CONS: - The single LED status light makes it difficult to determine the state of the modem (see below). - When you rename a device using the web interface, those names do not carry through on the mobile app. FEATURES NOT ADVERTISED: - Free mobile app called 'SURFboard Central.' The mobile app allows you to see what devices are connected to your network, assess your network health, test your Wi-Fi speed, and even rename connected devices. The app was easy for me to use, despite the negative reviews. - You can setup a primary home network, a secondary home network, and a guest network. Each network includes a 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz SSID. COLOR CODES: - Solid Green LED: Indicates the Online status is in DOCSIS 3.0 mode. - Solid Blue LED: Indicates the Online status is in DOCSIS 3.1 mode. *This is the color you want to see. - Blinking Green LED: Indicates downstream and upstream channel search. - Solid Amber LED: Indicates the unit is powered on. - Blinking Amber LED: Indicates the firmware download is in progress. - Blinking Blue and Green LED: Indicates error mode in sequence. - Solid Light Blue LED: Indicates the WAN is selected over the Ethernet mode.

I was able to find this at Amazon for the same price at Bestbuy and Walmart. Bestbuy didn't have in stock and Walmart was remodeling their store and couldn't find it. It put my Internet back online with Cox and was very happy to have it back.
