Decent, if overpriced laptop. This 2024 version has an Intel 14900HX CPU and the nVidia RTX 4080 laptop GPU w/12GB DDR6 video memory, 32 GB DDR5 SO-DIMM system memory; comes with 1TB SK hynix NVME SSD, I added a second NVME myself (Samsung 990Evo 2TB) for storage. The screen is nice, high refresh rate but only 16" so a come down from my desktop system's large 4K. Nonetheless, it looks great. Some minor scaling issues, but that was software based and seems to be solved. Heat has been an issue, so I got a laptop cooling 'pad' w/ 2 fans and it's doing better. Seems to run cooler, just noisy (but wearing headphones I hardly notice it). If it's throttling at the higher temps, I haven't noticed it in performance during gaming. I used it a lot at the beginning, but then switched to my desktop when I upgraded that (finally). Still, I'm glad I have it for when I have to travel. I've not had any failure so far.

Click to play video The whole machine looks awesome, it's a joy of colors especially in the dark, I got the scar 16 with the i9 14th gen and the 4080, it can handle everything, in games I play everything at max, I don't even bother to lower the settings, nvidia dlss and frame generation takes the experience to another level, the only game that I touch settings is fortnite so I can play always at 240fps, the screen looks amazing, it is very bright, even at daylight you can see it perfectly, at night I always have it at minimun since it's very bright, I know there is certain concern about coil whine in some units, but on mine there is not such thing, I kinda heard it a the very first days of owning it but now it is kind of heardless or gone. Recently I have seen some videos of complaints about asus's warranty and their products, but also they have some of the nicests and top notch devices, and they are always trying to be at the top along with other companies. So far I haven't have any issues with it, I used to have another asus laptop which I got like 10 years ago, and I never had any problems with it aside from getting outdated for the new games and programs. This new laptop it's quite expensive but the effort was totally worth it.

I don't have too much to say about it. It runs about as well as my PC at home, if not better. I've used it to play AAA titles and MMOs in the late evening while on trips out of town, to do work for college, coding & my job. It's a great laptop. A few things to consider. While the numpad that's build into the touchpad is neat at first... it's just a nuisance when your catch your hand on it while gaming & then you're hitting random buttons on accident. Also, the resolution isn't 16:9, it is 16:10. You're going to have issues getting the full screen to be filled for some games & you're going to lose 1-2 inches of screen to black-bars in games such as Elden Ring. However, I feel like the 16:10 resolution provides for a more compact laptop shape. I have a 16:9 laptop & it feels so lopsided to use or carry around. This one feels great. Plus you have more vertical space for say, writing a program in VSCode or the like. So it's a bit of a give & take there. PSA - I'm told ASUS customer service is horrible these days. If you have any issues with your laptop, please be warned you might be best off seeking other routes for repairs. Even if you are in warranty. There's plenty of videos on Youtube about it. Gamers Nexus is the one that alerted me to the potential issue.

My computer was defective from day 1. The seller/Amazon required me to spend hours troubleshooting online with Asus before having the option to return the defective computer. Asus in turn required me to send the computer to them for repair before I could return. Asus found defective parts, out of date drivers/firmware (which were supposedly updated when I did the troubleshooting with them via remote access/phone), and sent it back. It is still now working properly and Asus said I have to send it back to them again for repair. In the meantime I contacted the seller on Amazon who now says that "Unfortunately, the return window has been passed. You would need to place a new order. After you receive the new laptop, you can initiate a return request. The quality of ASUS laptop is quite good, it is unlikely you would had such problem again." In other words, there is no return policy because the required steps to troubleshoot a day 0 issue with the computer will put the order outside the return window. I'm guessing the seller is hoping a different seller will fulfill an order for a new unit and I'll then return the lemon I received for that other seller to deal with.

Good: Plays everything I have with great performance. Good: Great specs. Does everything I need it to do and will ever do. Good: The screen quality is great. Meh: Not a fan of all the bloatware that comes with this rig. Meh: Had a couple issues at first where the function keys just stopped working. Driver and BIOS updates seemed to fix that. Meh: Battery life is abysmal but Optimus helps with that. Also wasn’t expecting this thing to last 8 hours given its primary function and hardware. Meh: I can’t figure out how to properly wake up the laptop from sleep mode. Sometimes clicking the mouse works, sometimes pressing a key does the trick, and other times I have to press the power button to awaken it. Unsure: I hear frequent scratchy sounds from the board that almost sound like an old school hard drive on its way to total failure. Google suggests this might be coil whine, but I’m not really sure.

Its everything you expect for top tier laptop. It's heavy and the charger is also heavy. So if you trave lots get the thinner ROG with a 4090.

Everything is amazing in the laptop, It run all games well and work good and look good as well BUT it keep overheating no matter what I do! I even got a thermal pad but it doesnt help it and even undervolting it doesnt really give me a lot differance other then games start to stutter! would be a 5/5 if not the overheating issue which I know how to fix.... BUT Repasting it will VOID WARRANTY! so I will not do it and suffer.
