I purchased a used Smith and Wesson 15-7 which came with heavily worn rubber grips, and I really wanted to upgrade not only the appearance, but also the weird, sticky feel of the rubber grips. I was guided to Altamont by a local gun store owner and I am very pleased with my decision. Unlike some cheaper brands, these include two steel pins that aid in keeping the grips aligned with each other while the machined cutout for the round butt frame fits perfectly. The detailing in the engraving and checkering is superb and the finish is the perfect balance between polished wood without looking like it's encased in clearcoat. The feel in the hand is fantastic and adds just enough heft to the grip to help balance the pistol whereas the rubber grips I had were so light that the barrel drooped if I held the gun up for more than a few seconds. Granted, that is a problem more with me than the gun and is alleviated with practice, but these Altamont grips will certainly make practicing a whole lot more enjoyable, to say nothing about the stunning appearance. As for shooting, the recoil is indeed more pronounced in the padded space below the thumb where the most force is exerted back compared to the rubber grips, but it isn't nearly as bad as it is with revolvers with skinnier grips. These add just enough thickness without being fat to fill the hand and spread the force of recoil out. In all, I find it comfortable enough to shoot a hundred rounds in an hour without any kind of lingering discomfort. Money well spent (and less than comparable grips from Hogue!), and I anticipate these grips will do well on this gun for many years to come. I absolutely would recommend to a friend.

Put this grip on my model 66-8 4in. It fits well and the texture is nice. Only gripe I have is under the backstrap, the grip sticks out farther than the backstrap. Slightly annoying when gun is in hand, but not too bad. Other than that, I like it.

The Altamont revolver grip was nice. It fit properly without modification, as an Industrial Engineer myself I can appreciate the workmenship. The wood was of good quality, the finish was good you can feel the sharp cuts in the crosshatched area. The angle of the grip from the barrel is closer to 90 degrees than the origional rubber grip and I don't have the tendency to shoot alittle high anymore. The only thing I would do differently is I would provide everybody a rubber plug that looks like the screw head on the other side so the gun would look the same on both sides but that's minor. It would probably cost less than a penny per unit. They don't waste money on packaging it came in a bubble wrap packet but hay, it wasn't damaged. Reading about the company I discovered they are working out of the old BX at the closed Chanute AFB, having been stationed there myself many years ago I always liked the people in Rantoul Ill. Knowing that they are providing employment to American workers that lost their military base due to BRAC, I would be inclined to purchase more items from Altamont. Nice work Altamont, now let's see how it holds up to wear and tear.

Haven't shot it yet but it looks beautifully constructed and it fits my gun like a glove.

Since this is a round butt to square butt conversion grip, do not expect a perfect fit. That said this grip gives the best fit and finish of a conversion grip that I've seen. You can't get a perfect fit with a conversion without thinning to wood in places to where thinned wood will not break off. At least not without affecting the fit with you hand. This grip encourages a higher grip on the revolver, reducing recoil which is what I was looking for. I have no complaints.

While the wood is high quality, and provides a professional great appearance, the wood grip itself where the frame meets the 'V' shape of your grip is NOT flush, causing skin tearing injuries after normal use at the range or in the field. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

These are very nice looking grips but after installation I found that the top ear on the right side would not lay flat on the frame it flared out to about a .1" gap. If I removed the screw the right grip panel would rock top to bottom as though it was warped. I thought I just got a bad one so I exchanged them for another set but the 2nd set has the same issue plus this set does not meet completely along the front strap. Someone else may be able to sand the inside of the panels to get them to fit properly but I was not going to risk them still not fitting and loose $65 in the process. I gave them 2 stars because the finish is great and if they can figure out the warp in the right panel they will be nice grips.
