This seems to be to be equivalent to the HD 8 Plus from the previous gen. It is fast enough for a basic consumption device (unlike the basic HD 8 from the previous gen, which I found frustratingly sluggish even as an e-reader). The screen quality is just good enough. And I mean that positively. Its actually good enough without being unnecessarily gorgeous like an iPad Mini or something (For comparison, the Fire 7 is NOT good enough, in my opinion). I love the screen size AND the bezel size. I really appreciate that Amazon's designers understand than many of us want a place for our thumbs. Smaller bezels are not always better. Also, having tried both an iPad mini and a Lenovo M9 tablet, the curved edges on the back on the Fire do make it more comfortable to hold than those otherwise more premium devices. Keep in mind that my five-star review is mostly about the balance that Amazon offers regarding quality, usability, and price. If people want a full-featured tablet that can handle more than books, movies, and basic games, then consider an iPad or a more premium Android device. You might not get all the apps you want from the Amazon app store, and not everyone will want to figure out the necessary steps to get other Android apps. Plus, they might slow the device down if you do get them. But for me this is mostly an affordable (especially when on sale) quality full-color e-reader, and I love the look and feel of it.

I've had older versions of Kindle Fire tablets. I actually had the original 1st edition fire tablet, and it was slower than molasses in a snow storm. This tablet is light years better than the original, but it should be due to technology advances. It's a great tablet that has great features and battery life. Once it's set up, and you've made all your personal adjustments, it's really a great value! It runs on its own operating system, (not Android, or Apple) though I personally feel, Android users would feel more at home with this operating system. The Amazon app store is better than when it first launched, but not as deep with apps as you would find on Google Play, or the App store for Apple. Non the less, you should find plenty of variety to choose from, and most apps are free. If you're a Prime member, you will love the ability to watch Prime shows/ movies right from the tablet. If you're an avid reader, then the Kindle reading app is great. I feel the 8 HD probably has the perfect screen size, as it sits right between the size of a larger cellphone, and a smaller laptop. This size tablet also makes it easier to hold, and easy to store when traveling.

I find myself reaching for this tablet more often than my Galaxy TAB 10 Ultra or even my iPad Pro 11 due to their size and weight. I can just hold it in one hand. Sure, the experience is pretty basic, but that is its charm. At 8" the screen has enough PPI to make video content pretty clear. The size makes it much easier to hold with one hand. By the way, YouTube looks great in the Silk browser in my opinion. I appreciate the 3.5mm jack as well as Bluetooth connectivity. I find it just as useful as a hub for my home and an entertainment portal in limited spaces such as my kitchen counter. The speakers aren’t great, but they’re good enough in a pinch. While I prefer my Kindle PW, the reading experience is not that bad. Honestly, I like it better for color content such as comics and magazines since the colors pop more and frame focus works smoothly. The browsing experience is decent. Keeping in mind that the memory limitations do not allow for many apps and tabs to be opened at the same time, I have had no issues in doing any browsing and even some productivity tasks. When it’s all said and done, I am quite pleased with the overall experience. The tablet may not be as premium, but managing expectations and considering that “better” tablets cost astronomically much more, this is certainly a bargain -especially when it’s on special.

this tablet is great for the black friday price. initial set up was rough, device froze, but its up and running now. the apps that i could get run well, and i enjoy watching movies and reading comics on it. Audio is good from the 2 speakers and theres a headphone jack, which is a plus. I got ad support. it isn't too invasive, only on the lock screen which is fine. the ads come in muted but watch out for hitting that speaker button, the audio will play at almost full volume. i knocked a star off because there isn't google play support out the box. I was able to side load it onto the device, but that took a bit of effort. Even still, some apps and games i wanted to play still are not compatible on this device. I also put a 1 tb micro sd card in. you have the option to set it to internal memory or portable memory. I chose internal and that card now lives in the tablet. all apps and other data install directly onto the card. 32gb base is unusable in 2024, so I'm glad theres an option for a micro sd card. overall, i like this purchase. bought it mainly for its form factor. having a tablet this size is easy to bring around with me and even fits in my hoodie pocket.

Can't go wrong with kindle. Confused why the power on/ volume buttons were moved. But so the same excellent product. Very easy to use. Touch screen is great. App availability is great wish we had access to Google Play store. With a case it is very durable. For the price I feel it should come without ads.
