The Antarctica exceeded expectations! Sturdy, quiet and efficient! Here are the two tests that is passed with flying colors! Tests were done inside house at 80F. There was a fleece blanket over the top of the unit, and the blanket did get moist from condensation due to high relative humidity but dried quickly. Trial 1 - Maintain constant freezing temperature overnight and recharge in morning. Filled with 6 packages each of frozen peas and broccoli which fit neatly. Set at 28 F Powered with Jackery 500 The unit maintained the 28 F freezing temp with DC power from Jackery overnight for 12 hours which dropped the power level on Jackery to 60%. Began recharging the Jackery after 12 hours while simultaneously running the unit, and the Jackery was able to recharge at a rate of 85 watts in 4 hours to 99% Total energy used to power the Antarctica overnight for 12 hours and recharge was 400 watt hours or 0.40 kilowatt hours according to Kill A Watt meter. Trial 2 - Maintain freezing temperature for 12 hours and turn off overnight allowing temp to rise. Using a gallon jug of ice for test placed inside unit at 30F. Power usage in 12 hours was 0.14 kwh or 140 watt hours with AC power supply Power off at night. The temperature increased overnight inside unit to 49 F which is very adequate and equivalent to a refrigerator like setting. The Anarctica temp was then lowered again to 30F at end of 24 hour period bringing total energy use to 0.17 kwh. This test maintained a temp inside unit at refrigerator levels for a crisper like environment down to freezing for 24 hours and included 12 hours of no power starting with 8 lbs of solid ice. For foods that do not need to be kept below freezing and in situations like a car where it may not be desirable to run the unit overnight this test could indicate that for half the energy of test 1 the items in the unit if started at near freezing would be preserved and cold during a 24 hour window although this probably would limit itself to certain foods and situations. The combination of the Antarctica and the Jackery 500 or similar is ideal especially for camping in my Prius where I would easily charge Jackery for the needed 2 to 4 hours from the 12 v port in the car during the day while driving or in ready mode while using the car inverter for cooking or AC etc. The price after the $30 coupon can't be beat, and this compares very favorably to an expensive cooler which would require ice and would take up a little more room too.

This was perfect for my needs. I bought this for a cross country car trip and it was perfect and decently quite. I also love the fact that this comes with both cords for wall power and cigarette lighter power. I had 0 issues and it cooled everything down fast and great. I did not use this to freeze anything so I am not sure how great that function works.

I bought this one for three reasons: 1) Made in the US (or, at least I think so); 2) small, but larger than a small cooler; 3) can carry it by grips on both ends, even when full. It runs off the car battery and stays cold for several hours when you are not in the vehicle. Can easily be carried into a motel room and plugged into an outlet overnight. Display is fairly intuitive, but read the instruction manual before operating. Temperature often drops below what you set it at when it is in a cooling cycle, so set it several degrees above 32F. I am happy with this purchase!

Works well enough for the money. Temperature is a little warmer than digital read-out. Great design for road trips. I’ve put this no-name, console style, 12v fridge/freezer through multiple tests. I let it sit for 6 hours before I turned it on, as the sticker recommended. The compressor is relatively quiet. It cools to desired temperature in 15-30 minutes, depending on how cold you want it. I used a freezer thermometer and found the digital read-out to be about 5-10 Fahrenheit degrees cooler than the actual temperature. It will cool to at least 10 degrees, even though it reads -4. The biggest issue I’ve found is that it cools about 10 degrees below desired temperature at startup, but then regulates from 10 degrees warmer to 5 degrees cooler than desired temperature. Purchasers may want to be careful with vegetables and set temperatures well above freezing. In my pickup, I set the battery protection at medium/10.4v cutoff. It only lasted about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. I’m not sure if that’s from the pull of the fridge/freezer, or if I need a new battery. Mine is a few years old. But the fridge/freezer did not drain my battery. In my house, I’ve let it run for about 24 hours with no issues. The design is perfect for a center-console, road-trip cooler. The child-proof control lock is a nice feature. I bought this for the design and the price. Compared to other name-brand fridge/freezers, it’s a good value. I was skeptical, and reluctant to buy this, but it’s been working pretty well so far. Update: Two months and several uses later, and still working great! Another great use I’ve found is for leftovers when we go out for dinner and do something after. I bought the best car battery I could find to replace my older one. I guess the outlet in my pickup cuts off after a couple hours, so I have no idea how long this fridge/freezer would take to drain my battery. I’ll have to do a direct line to the battery to find out.

Took this on a long road trip down the California coast. We used it to buy a bunch of fresh uni and fish from Santa Barbara. The fridge worked well and our seafood was perfectly fine. The fridge also comes with a cord to plug into an outlet so we plan to use this during the summer BBQ season as a cooler for drinks. No more having to deal with ice!

I've had this Antarctic Star Car Refrigerator for nearly a year. I keep it in the back of my SUV where there is a 12v outlet. I LOVE THIS THING! It cools quickly and sips energy. I keep drinks in it 24/7. After parking overnight the drinks are still cool the next day. When I go to my big box club or grocery store I can easily fit 4 to 5 large packs of meat in this mini fridge. When I get home after running all my errands the meat is still as cold as it was in the store cooler. If you are looking for a small everyday or weekend camping 12v fridge this one fits the bill. I would buy this item again.
