30+ years ago I was gifted a small slow cooker. Initially I wasn't quite sold on the idea as the whole slow cooking concept was foreign to me. After a while I realized that the gadget actually has potential. Since my original machine decided to fall apart a month ago, I figured it was time to get a new one. Amazon Warehouse to the rescue! This B&D slow cooker caught my eye with its turquoise color and retro-look stripe design. I have no idea of the size of my original cooker but it was small and something a tad larger would be fine. I didn't really visualize how large 7 quarts would be so when my purchase arrived, I was floored. My old one must have been about 2 quarts. Anyway, there is plenty of room for just about anything you would desire to prepare. The buttons are easy: OFF, low, high and warm. I didn't need any timers or other fancy features. The electric cord is rather short; another 10 inches in length would be nice but I can manage. These newer slow cookers are nice in that the inner ceramic bowl comes off and makes cleanup easy (my old one didn't have that so one had to wash it carefully so as not to get water in wrong places). However, I can tell you that a 7-quart bowl weighs quite a bit so be careful when handling it. The weight is probably the only minus I can think of. I will probably get some liners for this slow cooker so that I could prepare two separate dishes at the same time.

Okay. It’s gigantic and that’s on my poor math skills. lol. Cool looking crock. Can’t wait to use it. Yes. I’m basing my review purely on looks.

Had the name brand version that never worked right so looked for a heavy crock one with simple control, not digital. This one works great, it heats fast and evenly. Usually will begin to rapid simmer in approximately an hour when 3/4 full. Once it does, I turn to low which maintains a nice low simmer nicely. My pictures show the start and finish of beef stew which was done in 3 hours. A few tech specs; This review is written after over 2 dozen meals of broth, bean and cream soups, pot roast, pork shoulder and stews. The control knob is nice size and shape that feels solid, I am not a fan of the smaller wing shape/size knobs so very happy with this one. Heats to boil usually within an hour, a very cold, almost still frozen 7 pound pork shoulder took 2 hours to get to a simmering point. A full crock of chicken soup took 1-1/2 hours to simmer. My name brand crock pot always took 4-5 hours to finally get to these points. When turned off and left to sit as you would for transporting to a gathering elsewhere, (1-1/4 hour trip in a warm car and left unplugged at destination), it took 3 hours to drop temperature to 143 degrees, just above recommended 140 degree safe temperature for food. When using the warm setting, it keeps it above 160 degrees or so depending on how often the lid is opened and how long it is off but still hot and safe. Yes, the crock is heavy but I feel it is way better to maintain even heat. The crock cleans easily. The lid hanging on handle is a nice feature that keeps it out of the way while adding ingredients or when serving. The design was not important for me but everyone that sees it, really likes it, two family members purchased the same teal wave pattern after seeing it. I see others that received a damaged in the box delivery, I too received the first one damaged due to, in my opinion, a protection oversight in packaging but the second one was undamaged and in perfect condition. I would highly recommend this to anyone! Black and Decker should make other sizes of this model for those of us who don't desire fancy controls and for those who can use smaller models. Great product B&D!

This slow cooker is a pretty color and large enough for a family meal, but I think it cooks too hot. If I put it on high, the food is boiling. The low setting is more like a normal high setting.

This was perfect for a household given our decorations we are going with and with all of our other pans and pots. Our old one broke in the sink that was just a regular one, so when I saw this I knew I had to get it and it works great and it's even a bit lighter so easier to lift for any one of my household who uses it. And it cooks really well, and I can go ahead and throw in a recipe really quick: .5 cup olive oil 2 tblsp of salt and pepper Squirt of lemon Pour a lil red or white wine Either whole chicken fresh or frozen (frozen will take longer) or leg quarters Spritz some paprika, salt and pepper on chicken surface Small whole scallion onion and leafs cut in half to soak the oil 1 cup of water Half stick of butter Cook fresh on High for 1 hour or 2.5 hpurs frozen Add after first cooking ladel some of the cooking oil/water in a bowl Add as much yellow potatoes cut or diced, diced mushroom, halved cherry tomatoes Add the ladelled oil/water from before by pouring over chicken and veggies Sprinkle a lil more salt if you like over the veggies, not the chicken Cook for extra hour or so fresh or another 2 hours if it started frozen Chicken is done when you try and pick it up from cooker and it falls apart! Serve chicken with white rice with a spponful of oil poured over rice with helping of the veggies! Enjoy!

Since purchasing this slow cooker I cooked more recipes in it than any other way. If you are just looking for a simple slow cooker this one is for you. Everything I cook in it comes out wonderful. My husband loves the meals I cook in it.

The Slow Cooker looks great and works fine but the quality of the product was very disappointing. The coating on the ceramic insert had numerous spots where the finish was missed. There was an area along the bottom that look like it was painted and that someone touched the paint when it was wet and left a large mark. Very disappointed in the quality control of this Black and Decker product.

This isn't a slow cooker full of bells and whistles, looks nice and does a very good job though.
