I really liked this book, because I really like Ina Garten. She is a class act, straightforward, but never blaming or dwelling on her misfortunes. She is aware of her luck and privilege, but worked very hard in the face of her own doubts about herself. Not the deepest of memoirs, but a feel-good story. Leaves me feeling happy for her, as one would for the success of a dear friend or loved one. Very enjoyable.

I have loved, admired, and respected Ina Garten for exactly 20 years now. Like many people, I tuned into her Food Network show every week and I learned a great deal about food from her. When I heard she had written her memoir I raced to pre-order it and I knew that no matter what was revealed on the pages it would be good, and it would interest me, but I had no idea just how much I was going to love this book. This book held my interest so much that it literally kept me from putting it down until I finished it in one day. The respect I already had for Ina grew exponentially through each chapter. So many people could learn from Ina’s great work ethic and from her marriage. What an incredible human being. I feel so fortunate to have lived through a time when Ina has existed. The best of the best. I can’t recommend this book enough!!

Really liked the book. Lots of things I didn’t know about ina. I love how some of her best recipes were scattered throughout. It was a very fast read for me. A nice break from fiction.

I have been cooking and baking nonstop since starting this book. I already owned two of Garten’s cookbooks, Make It Ahead and Back to Basics, but I had not made many recipes from either, because I don’t eat meat, wheat, dairy or sugar. (I know, it’s a drag.) But because she talks a lot, in the book, about obsessively testing her recipes and her goal of the recipes turning out perfectly every time for home cooks, I became curious to see if they were as bulletproof as they sounded. THEY ARE! Everything I’ve made so far from her cookbooks has been a homerun with my husband and friends! The French Chicken Pot Pies have caused swooning. The Outrageous Brownies are UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. (I’ve been taking little bites each night, along with a lactaid pill!) For years though, I’ve made her Chipotle Spiced Nuts and they are so delicious and addictive it’s crazy. Now I’m eager to cook my way through both cookbooks—and order more. But wait, let’s talk about her memoir. It’s so good. I just wanted to keep reading about her wonderful adventures and life. She had a difficult start, with her parents, but it makes her serendipitous visit to the college campus where Jeffrey first saw her, and their subsequent life together, all the more gratifying. I love great origin stories of successful people, and hers is fantastic. Cannot get this book fast enough—you’ll love it! And I’ve been thinking I’ll give it to my mom and mothers-in-law for Christmas. It’s a thought-provoking, empowering read particularly for girls and women and anyone who has felt underestimated.

Ina is everything. I needed her to write this feminist manifesto from a perspective of not even realizing what a shero she truly is. It makes the dream (and the fight) more relatable because its with the comfort of food and her sincere perspective on hard work. I just loved every word and could feel how much heart and detail she put into every story. It is so connected to Oprah and Eckhart Tolle’s work on being present because she would never have this level of gratitude, appreciation and joy if she wasn’t truly present. #InaForPresident

What a great read this book was! It felt like I was sitting down with Ina over a cup of tea talking about our lives. It really drives home that hard work and perseverance puts you in a position to take advantage of any luck that comes your way and that can change the world! Also, I never knew Ina was such a badass, paving the way for women in the 60’s and 70’s. Very impressive life.

I decided to read Ina’s biography because I love her cookbooks. In an odd way, I think we are good friends. On a recent trip to Paris I went to all her recommended places. The whole trip I kept one eye out that I might see her buying baguettes at Polaine or sampling cheese at one of her favorite cheese shops. A biography you say? Really. Ok, I will read it because after all my “friend” wrote it. I will plow through it because I want to know more about her marriage and her apartment in Paris.
OMG! I loved, adored and flew through it. It was like having an intimate cafe latte with a favorite friend. It was so much more detail and yes, texture than I expected. I hated when it ended. Part cookbook, part wisdom from this amazing woman, it is wonderful, warm and like finding and putting on my favorite sweater.
Thank-you, thank-you, Ina. Your biography was so brilliantly more than I expected and so welcome on this cold winter day. I hated to see it end…and when I am in Paris the next time, I will still be looking for you in your neighbourhood. Thank-you! Job well done…and if I see you, I will give a little wave of gratitude to you for all the many recipes you have sent my way.

A really interesting read about the life of one of my favourite tv cooks. A lot of information in the book that I wasn’t aware of, so I found it interesting and informative.
I bought the paperback, which is 394 pages, decent sized font, a few black and white pictures, and an east read.
