I wanted an interior light for the stairs inside my basement hatchway. This battery-powered motion-sensative light seems perfectly suited for the job. I was able to install it without running any household electrical power to it. Its four D-cells provide lots of juice and should last a long time -- probably years -- before they'll need replacing. The LED lights are more than bright enough. They provide a comfortable level of illumination. There is a lot of flexibility in how you install it. The LED's can swivel in all directions. The motion sensor can be installed pointing down or pointing up. The sensor has more than adequate range. The lights will stay on for a minute or so before going dark and resetting. I have another application out by our free-standing garage. I will be buying another of these just for that job.

A simple solution to add lighting where there’s no existing wiring. You can attach these practically anywhere and have them operating in minutes. We’ve been using this Mr. Beams model (as well as other models) for many years and it’s the only brand we use now. We have not had a single failure or issue such as corroded batteries, and we recently purchased additional ones for a new outbuilding. It’s designed to last years, unlike many products nowadays with the market flooded with low quality Chinese imitations/look-a-likes priced a few dollars less, but in the end don’t last or perform as promised. This particular model has many uses indoors and out. Being battery-operated, it’s not designed to provide flood-like illumination, but does provide sufficient lighting for most needs. The lights are designed to stay on for 20 seconds after it detects movement, and will stay on longer if it continues to detect movement. Vehicles and Animals will also trigger the lights. It's not highly sensitive to things like moving tree branches, unless they are too close. I would estimate the color/temperature of the LED lights to be around 4,000 Kelvin--not yellow but not bluish or “daylight” either. It comes ready to use out of the box; just add batteries. Other than that, there are no replaceable parts or adjustments other than the 2 articulating lights. It's designed for mounting on a vertical surface, and for outdoor use preferably under an eave, though it’s not necessary. It comes w/3 GP screws to attach the mounting plate. I use sheet metal screws or wood screws depending on where they're mounted. The light unit simply slides on and off the plate. LIGHTING APPLICATIONS - Security - Safety - Supplemental - Emergency (Power Outage) LOCATIONS - Entrance-ways - Pathways, Walkways, and Driveways - Patio, Porch, Pool, and Pet Areas - Basements/Cellars, Attics, and Stairways - Carports, Sheds, Barns, Workshops, and other Outbuildings VERSATILITY/CONVENIENCE - Use Indoors and Out. - No wiring, switch, caulk needed. - Installs in minutes and practically anywhere, even on trees or posts. - Two Independent Lens w/180 deg vertical and 135 deg horizontal articulation. - Use your fingers to adjust lens positions; they stay where you aim them. - Simple dismount to change batteries (press tab and slide off mounting plate). - You will need a large flat screwdriver to open and close the battery compartment. BATTERY LIFE - Sensor triggers lights only when dark or in very low light conditions. - Four D Alkaline batteries can last 10-18 months, depending on #triggering events. Our most used (pet area) last over a year w/2000-3000 triggering events. SENSOR - Effective sensing to over 30 ft away. - Effective sensing in extreme temperatures. - Effective sensing even when mounted 1.5-2 stories high. - Cannot adjust sensor position or sensitivity (but it is positioned and set for optimal performance). DURABILITY - Designed to last years. - Rain, Snow, and Wind? No problem. - Temperature/Humidity extremes and UV? No problem. - Sealed batteries, lens, and sensor keep out moisture, insects, dust, etc. TIPS - Clean the lens and sensor covers when you change batteries. - For safety purposes do not attempt to change batteries while on a ladder.

Great product. I have bought 6 of these almost a year and a half ago. I placed them in various locations around my house carport, and garage. They work well and put out plenty of light when they are triggered by motion. I live way out in the hills in southeast OK, and it gets pitch black at night outside so I need all the light I can get when I go outside at night. I use Duracell "D" batteries in them. They are all still running well on the original batteries except I had to replace the batteries in one after about 12 months, and that's because that particular light gets used much more than the others since it is mounted above the front door of my house which is the main entrance so it turns on much more than the others. I just ordered two more about 10 minutes ago. I highly recommend them. They're good lights.

I bought these to light up the back stairs that lead up to our apartment from the parking lot in the alley. The landlord believes maintenance is optional and the security lamp for the parking lot has never worked. Problematic. These are easy to install and work exactly as advertised: they do a great job of lighting up the space once the sensor detects movement. The only issue is the 4 D-cell batteries: they run down pretty quickly in a high-traffic area - or if the temperature plummets. I've switched to rechargeable D-cells, which are not cheap but work well.

I purchased this to light up the space between two doors on the back entry to my home which previously did not have a light of any kind. I don't regret settling on this light. It's very bright and sensitive to motion, and so far it's been going almost a year on the same set of batteries. It's slightly dimmer than when I first put the batteries in, but that's to be expected with year old batteries and daily use. Your mileage will of course vary depending on how much foot traffic you have where you mount this, but expect this to not need batteries very often, which sames money!

Light output is not that bright but enough to cover an area of about 6 feet. But 1 of the light acts wonky when a fresh set of batteries was installed. Keeps turning on and off even when there's no activity which will drain the battery faster
