I just moved into a new apartment and was looking for a complete knife set that looked good on the counter but didn’t break the bank—and this CAROTE 14-piece set turned out to be exactly what I needed! The knives are super sharp right out of the box. I chopped through a tomato with no squishing and breezed through chicken breast without any tugging. The non-slip handles feel sturdy and comfortable, even when my hands are a little wet from cooking. I’ve been using the chef’s knife and paring knife the most, but every piece in the set has come in handy—including the kitchen shears, which are surprisingly solid! The included sharpener is a nice bonus, and I like that everything stores neatly in the wooden block. The block itself has a clean, modern look that fits perfectly with my kitchen aesthetic. Pros: Razor-sharp blades for effortless slicing and dicing Comfortable, non-slip handles feel secure and well-balanced Comes with a sharpener and heavy-duty kitchen shears Great value for a full 14-piece set Looks great on the counter—clean and modern design Cons: Not dishwasher safe (but easy enough to hand wash) Handles are lightweight—some may prefer heavier, premium feel Overall, this is a great all-around knife set, especially if you’re setting up a new kitchen or upgrading from mismatched knives. We use knives all the time in our house as we are always prepping something, we receive these knives four days ago and they have been put to heavy use already and I have to say I am extremely impressed with these knives. They have remained very sharp despite cutting things that generally will dull a knife slowly but surely such as tomatoes because of the outside of the skin, watermelon, potatoes etc. Thus far these knives have remained super sharp. I love the choice of the black block that they come in it works really well with the wood that has beautiful grains of wood in it, and even the sharpening tool that comes with these knives feels to be heavy duty. We have not had to sharpen the knifes yet But the knife sharpener is extremely scratchy and that is exactly what you want for the surface of a knife sharpener. Is it possible my review on this or my opinion on this could change a month from now yes of course knives are finicky like that. However, so far after four days of heavy use we have thrown a lot of these knives and they have not even blinked and for the price point of $79 man you just can’t beat that.

This knife set is 100% worth the money! It comes with a good few serated knives instead of the typical steak knife, which isn't going to be as fun when they need to be sharpened. They're obviously plastic, but good quality plastic, seems durable. They're easy to clean and don't take up much space on the counter which is great for smaller living spaces. They're pretty cute too, I like it much better than the cheap dollar store knives we had before.

These knives arrived well packaged and well sharpened. There is a good variety of different blades, so I always have the one I need. The handles are not made of wood, and instead have this printed decal on them, so I'm a little worried about how they hold up visually over time, but otherwise they feel sturdy and well constructed. It is recommended to hand wash them to protect the handle decals. The shears are secured together, so you can't take them apart for cleaning. It's not my preference, but it doesn't affect the quality or ability to cut.

I review the Carote knife set with the proviso that I am a bit of a snob about my knives. They need to be tough, well made, look good and they have to be and maintain a sharp profile. I keep my knives at a 22 degree sharpening angle and retouch the edge up multiple times sometime within a meal. Carote is a Chinese brand (made in Hangzhou but also in Vietnam apparently), but the brand is a good one, solid reputation for making excellent cutlery that meets strict standards for excellence. The blades I got are black and grey and come with non-slip handles, a ceramic coating that avoids foods adherence during use. I also heard they are highly rust resistance, but I had no opportunity to check this. The set includes 6 steak knives (serrated), 8" chef knife, 8" bread knife, 8" slicing knife, a 5" utility knife, a paring knife and a pair of shears. There is a built in sharpener in the block, but I use another sharpener for knives. The block is solid, looks formidable and I believe will last a good long time. All in all, I'm very happy with this knives-set and they meet my admittedly snobbish standards. If you are looking for a new knife set, I recommend these!
