So, my 13 year old Toro 6.5 HP self propelled lawnmower (Model 20007 with Tecumseh Engine LV195EA-362003B) decided it no longer wanted to start. I thought it was a clogged carburetor and took apart the carb to clean it out. After cleaning the carb, and reassembling (with a sketchy looking bowl gasket), I noticed that this hadn't helped my 'starting' problem and instead made it worse; I now had a small gas leak out of the carb bowl. Next I moved onto checking for a spark when rotating the flywheel (and holding down the engine run bar) but I couldn't see one. I disconnected the green wire from the ignition coil and confirmed, with an ohm meter, that it was working properly (shorted to ground when engine run bar was up and open when the bar was held down). So, I knew it wasn't an issue with the engine kill circuitry. So, to me, this left the only likely culprit being the engine coil itself. I ordered a new carb (because, why not for $15) and coil, installed both in about 20 minutes, and the unit started on the first pull. It's now like a brand new mower for less than $40 (coil, carb, air filter, and fuel line hose clamp). I used the following items: Carburetor MaxPower 13566 Carburetor for Tecumseh 640350, 640303 and 640271 Ignition Coil Air Filter Fuel Line Hose Clamp

These are excellent generic carburetors that fit perfectly on a Tecumseh engine used to power a common Toro Recycler GTS. A couple hints when changing these carburetors on a Toro GTS: - Fully remove the muffler connected with two bolts. That will expose two smaller bolts (with Phillips screwdriver slots). Remove the smaller bolts, which will dislodge the entire assembly. Then just detach the breather tube and gas line as well as the governor rod and spring. This will save you a lot of room to replace the carburetor correctly. - The RPM on the mower should be 3200. Often it is easy to confuse Carburetor issues with low RPM due to an incorrectly set governor. Governor adjustment is easy and is typically misaligned due to the delicate spring becoming damaged or stretched during carburetor removal. To adjust low RPM, simply increase the spring tension. This can be done by using needle nose pliers to bend the metal tab connecting the spring to the carburetor bolt. Increase tension on the spring to bring up the RPM, and decrease tension on the spring to lower the RPM. - It is difficult to get the RPM perfect based on the sound of the motor. Remember, with lawnmowers, higher RPM will damage the engine over time. I strongly suggest buying a cheap tachometer such as the TinyTach, which coils around a spark plug wire. It is very easy to achieve the perfect 3200 RPM with one of these.

My Craftsman mower sat in the shed for about four years (was using a lawn service). I prepped it before putting it away, but otherwise neglected it. Upon trying to get the mower working again this spring, I found that it would not start. I used some carb cleaner (Gumout) and still no dice. It ran when spraying carb cleaner into it, though, so the problem wasn't elsewhere (i.e. the spark was good). Best I could figure, the float was gummed up and the gasket between it and the carb was shot. Also, my primer bulb was dry and cracking. When looking around for those individual replacement parts, I found this item - it is all included. New primer bulb, new float assembly with gasket, gasket for in between this part and the exhaust assembly, etc... I know how to use a wrench, but don't know much about engines. When looking into having the mower fixed by a professional, the cost was prohibitive...the labor, alone, would have been a killer. The repair was very easy. I went cheap and left the old fuel lines in place after verifying they were clear, but you may want to replace that plastic tubing at the same time. The part fit like a glove and old faithful is back to a 1 pull start and perfect idle. This part completely resolved the problem for about $30. I could not ask for more.
