This journey has been so fun to watch and explore, my kids absolutely enjoyed every second of watching the life cycle of a caterpillar. πŸ›We have 3 butterflies currently (As I'm writing this another one hatched so now we have 4.) but we are hoping for all of them to have made it. We did lose the log you were suppose to set the chrysalis' in so l hand made a solution to that πŸ˜‚ I cut open a hefty cup and put tape around the opening so it's a smooth edge and the butterflies won't hurt their wings, Then I placed the paper the chrysalis' are attached to on top and taped the paper onto the cup. The final step was putting something heavy on the bottom of the cup so it wouldn't tip over when the butterflies come out. So I placed a rock that my son had and a shell that we found at the beach in them. And now we shall wait for more to hatch We will wait for their wings to dry and to make sure they are eating before releasing them into the wild for them to live happily ever after! Thank you for everyone that has been keeping up with our butterfly journey! We will keep updating as time goes on! Also we had a caterpillar that was significantly smaller than the rest when we first got them. He’s still alive but growing a lot slower than the rest. He’s still in the cup with food and I’m going to try everything I can to help him get to become a butterfly πŸ¦‹

Got these caterpillars to use as part of our homeschool. We have been studying flying creatures this year. These were so fun! They came quickly and we had 7 living tiny caterpillars in a tiny cup of food. You don't have to do anything else until they become chrysalises. We loved watching them grow and grow and grow, and it happens so quickly. In a few weeks we had giant caterpillars compared to the start. Once they all formed the chrysalis we were able to pin the paper to our enclosure so they could hang. All 7 came out as butterflies a few weeks later and we released into the wild. I highly recommend this experience and can't wait to do it again next year. It is such a fun process to watch the transformation!

At first I had no idea what was in the box it was not labeled Amazon but looked like a regular fedex box. I think my kids tossed it around a bit. But they were okay so cute packaged so nice and snug. All are alive and just wiggling around. I must get a net. I thought I just buy them and release them. No no . I'm sure I have over 10. So happy with this purchase. Trying to resist the urge to feed them. They have all they need. My kids are very excited for our project. I am even more. I don't see them in my busy city anymore. Their lives are so short but in that brief time, the site of a butterfly πŸ¦‹ just brings so much joy. Will buy again

These arrived 2 weeks ago and today the last caterpillar is forming a chrysalis. I bought 10 and received 12. They all arrived healthy and have survived. 2 of them fell off the lid. I transferred the paper tops to the final enclosure today and hung the fallen ones using some yarn. This is an experiment since I’m using a terrarium but I have a screen top I’ll be swapping out periodically to control humidity and air flow. I’ll post an edit when they emerge. EDIT: They all emerged with the exception of 1 who had a wing formed β€œinside out” they all appear healthy. They’re absolutely beautiful!!! I’ve since released them all outside.

I have done this every year with my daycare kids. Such a great experience for children. We would keep them on my table . So they would see them everyday growing . I have grown kids in collage that talk about their memories of doing this. We’ve held on our noses, on our shoulders.

I’ve been raising butterflies for past 5 years. Absolutely love it. Started out as something fun for grandchildren. Enjoyed it so much it’s become a family affair. We have a release day and now the whole family takes part in it. It’s a wonderful way to experience this with children. They get to watch them grow and change then come out of the cocoons. The joy we get is remarkable. Wonderful memories with grandchildren. I’ve had great success. Last year was the most I’ve raised. I think it was 38. Only two didn’t make it.

This turned out to be a great experience for our kids to see the caterpillars' transformation into beautiful butterflies. I have to say I was a bit dismayed when we first receive the kit. It came in a small box that must have gotten crushed in transportation. The cardboard box was half open and distorted .The plastic cup inside was also crushed to the point where it was impossible to put the lid on without it popping out. The paper on top of the cup was also torn. I ended up replacing the paper with a coffee filter and rubber banding the lid to the cup. Despite the ordeal from the bad transportation/packaging, our caterpillars survived and all six of them formed chrysalises. Even though one of the butterflies died inside its chrysalis, the other five came out beautifully. Overall pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

Ordered 2 containers of 5. One was fine, the other food/sand was broken up and unfortunately squished 3 of them which was upsetting for child they were bought for 😬. They are growing so fast as soon in the photos, they look to double on size each day. We bought the kit (home) separately, so we are waiting for the next stage to then transport them to the kit home ( pin them ). I will add another photo with updates. *Be mindful of the time of year you get them based on Season/Weather. If it's going to be under 60° you can't let them free. We are Upper East coast so these are a late spring/ Summer experience.
