Jim Parker and his fellow CIA operatives did phenomenal work in Laos supporting the Hmong people and their fight against the Pathet Lao & the NVA communist invaders. They trained and equipped the Hmongs who acquitted themselves well against the 70,000 NVA forces over a ten year period...even piloting US T-28 trainers rigged as close air support aircraft. Gen Vang Pao the Hmong leader was also key to the success they had. Most importantly, their display of heroism and professionalism tied down tens of thousands of NVA that otherwise would have been committed to the fight in South Vietnam. Too bad most Americans do not know what these men did or that they even existed. Parker and his wife were also great ambassadors for America in the love they showed to the Laotian and Thai people while they lived there...adopted 2 Thai children too.

Arming the locals and comiting American airpower worked. But we lost interest after abandoning the nation next door. Once again it is shown that the greatest weakness of Democracy is maintaining a consensus for sacrifice.

THIS BOOK SHOWS THAT THE VIETNAM WAR WASNT JUST ABOUT VIETNAM BUT THE WHOLE AREA OF SOUTHEAST ASIA. THE GOVERNMENT OF THE USA DID NOT JUST LET OUR ALLIES IN VIETNAM DOWN BUT ALSO OUR ALLIES IN LAOS, CAMBODIA AND TO SOME EXTENT ALL THE COUNTRIES SURROUNDING THESE THREE AREAS. FOLKS, THE SAD TRUTH IS, WE THE US GOVERNMENT, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ETC. HAVE NOT WON A WAR SINCE WORLD WAR TWO. GOD HELP US AND OUR PRESENT DAY ALLIES. WE SEEM TO BE MORE INTERESTED IN WHAT OUR ENEMY THINKS AND DOES THAN IN WHAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THINK. GOD HELP US ALL. D.O.L.

I was stationed at NKP 67/68 and any information and books on the secret war intrigue me. This was very interesting and informative. How Jim ever remembered as much as he did is beyond me. Good job Jim.
