The 80 grit flap wheel is at the finer end of the abrasive spectrum. This less aggressive grit allows for very gradual removal of metal when sharpening mower blades. It offers some insurance against rapid removal of more metal than is necessary for a well sharpened lade. This is a high quality product from a premium manufacturer.

these flap disc were great. i was able to use them like a grinding wheel. if i were to complain it would be the cost, i wish they were cheaper. i would've purchased more.

These do a good job on sharpening mower blades all in all. They generate less heat than a standard wheel and give a good looking edge. For a novice, they would certainly have a lower learning curve than a standard wheel. The stiffness of the disc with the fiberglass backing can be an asset. They tend to allow you to follow contours of mulching blades without gouging- yet maintaining a proper edge angle. You can sharpen quite a few blades, but in reality maybe 20% of what a standard grind wheel will do. For the money, these are good wheels compared to some others I have tried. They won't match the speed of a regular grinding wheel when you sharpen nasty blades.
