Successfully combining vacuuming and mopping functions into a single autonomous unit that can map, navigate, schedule and clean multiple rooms, while successfully avoiding obstacles, on multiple occasions, without frequent owner interventions, makes this device a highly valued home floor cleaning appliance. Dreame is a high-tech, cutting-edge company that designs and produces floor cleaners that are unmatched by their competitors. Since using L40 Ultra our floors are kept show-room clean while only needing to provide simple, intermittent appliance maintenance. The control software appliance functions are highly customizable so each room can be cleaned with its own unique cleaning protocol. As elderly home owners, we so appreciate well designed, easy to use home maintenance aids that require minimal physical effort! Clearly this best describes Dreame products, they are the best that money can buy.

This is a revision of my original review to reflect Dreame’s surprisingly good customer support. The original L40 I received was a complete dud (notes below). But after posting this review, Dreame reached out and asked if I’d give them another try, so I did. I was able to reach an American-sounding customer support rep within 3 minutes of calling tech support. He quickly confirmed that my robot was a dud and processed an RMA. Within a week I had a replacement. Now that I have a working bot, I’m quite happy with it. I’ve got it scheduled to clean 500 feet three times a week and so far it’s been doing it without issue. Pros: 1. The fur pickup on medium pile carpet is pretty good with the optional tri-cut brush and “intensive cleaning with cross-walk” option enabled. The L40 probably gets about 85 to 90% of the fur with this setting. It’s not as good as my Dyson V8, but is noticeably better than my previous Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra. 2. It’s relatively quiet. My old Roborock is loud and even louder when it’s emptying or cleaning in the dock. The new L40 is significantly quieter, so much so that I schedule it to run at 4am while I’m asleep. Cleaning in the dark is no problem for it. 3. The app is easy to use and the scheduled cleanings have been reliable Cons: 1. It still requires “programming.” Robot vacuums aren’t “plug and play” yet. You have to spend time getting to know the L40’s quirks and limitations and finding work around, like— 2. The L40 hates wire frame chairs. See pic, it tries to climb over them, gets stuck and/or loses its mop pads and freaks out. To work around, I zoned a tiny area around dining chairs so the robot avoids them on 2/3 days. On the third day, I put the chairs on my dining table. 3. The L40 AI obstacle avoidance falsely recognizes the dark knots in my pine floors as dog poop and avoids them. To work around this, I turned off the AI-obstacle avoidance. I keep my floors pretty clutter free so this hasn’t been a problem for me. Overall I’m very happy that Dreame reached out and got me a working bot so quickly. I’m quite pleased with its abilities. —Original Review of Dud L40-– I’m returning the L40 after spending about two weeks trying to get it clean 1500 square feet on a daily schedule; it only completed a scheduled cleaning once without issue. Problems have included: 1. Mop pads falling off (so I switched from Clean Genius to custom without mop pads) 2. Crud getting on mop pad attachment preventing it from seating correctly like small rocks or staples 3. Trying to get from point A to point B through a closed door (instead of the open hallway), spinning around the closed door until dying from lack of battery (drawing virtual wall probably helped) 4. Randomly not finishing scheduled cycle in the middle of the night (maybe it was an automated firmware update? I deactivated that feature) 5. Now it's just dead. It went offline, all lights are flashing, and it won’t respond to anything. Not even the reset button works when I hold it down with a paper clip. So maybe I have a dud? I only tried contacting Dreame support once via e-mail and never heard back but would rather return than go through RMA. The L40 certainly has potential, so maybe it’s good if it actually works. Be sure to save your packaging so you can more easily send it back if yours doesn’t perform as expected.

My past experiences with Dreame vacuums have been overwhelmingly positive. My previous model served me reliably for a solid 2.5 years before encountering any issues, leading me to believe in the brand's durability and efficiency. Unfortunately, this latest Dreame vacuum has proven to be a stark and deeply disappointing contrast, lasting a mere five hours before exhibiting significant problems. From the outset, the cleaning performance was abysmal. A single cleaning cycle of my relatively small 10ft by 10ft area stretched to an unacceptable four hours (and 4 different cycles of sending it out) During this extended period, the vacuum displayed an alarming tendency to ensnare itself on virtually every power cord and USB cable within its reach, repeatedly disconnecting them. Furthermore, the robot became entangled no less than three times, with the severity of these incidents even causing the mop pads to detach on one occasion. On two separate instances, it managed to suck up USB cables, dragging them along while continuing its erratic cleaning path. Most frustratingly, a specific 10ft by 10ft section proved to be an insurmountable obstacle for this device. Despite initiating the cleaning cycle four separate times, the vacuum consistently failed to address this area, leaving it untouched. This experience has been profoundly frustrating and has severely damaged my confidence in Dreame's current product quality. While my past interactions with the brand were positive, the abysmal performance and numerous malfunctions of this particular model make it impossible for me to recommend it. Potential buyers should exercise extreme caution and consider alternative options before investing in this vacuum.
