I'm the furthest thing from a techy as one can be, so I needed the same exact model of docking station I have in my home office to be able to set up elsewhere so that all I needed to do to change my work location was to pop my laptop onto the docking station. This was the model I needed, and thus far, it's working perfectly. I was also pleasantly surprised at how quickly I got it.

While I love the many functionality benefits of being able to dock my laptop either at home or school (I bought two), the photo attached to this review shows a power plug. Neither of my two docking stations came with a power adapter. I now either have to go through the trouble of being the squeaky wheel in order to get two sent to me, or I have to purchase them separately. Each lists for more than the cost of the docking station.

I use "trailing edge" equipment. Done this for many years. I don't need the latest greatest, nor can I afford to be on the bleeding edge. By seeking quality equipment, just past their "prime", I get to choose electronic pieces with an established 'track record', at far below their original cost. Especially for pro grade and enterprise gear there is a surprising amount of this stuff available. In this case, it's a Dell port replicator and power supply for the Dell E series laptops. It came in its original unopened Dell packing box, a virgin. I could have gotten it for even less, almost free, from other sources, but paid a bit more for "no finger prints" ...

Assuming after I start using, it there are no connection failures. (I'm having trouble making my way to the office, kind of got used to sitting in the living room with my notebook on my lap.) But I have a real nice 22" monitor I want to hook it to, so I bought this. I did check it with the connection to the computer and a USB connector and that all worked good. plugged in it charges the computer battery and unplugged it is powered by the computer. So it works both directions. I also bought the 130W adapter as it was recommended by the builder of my computer. It was cheaper to buy them separate than together in this instance.

I use this replicator at work (supplied by my company) and I bought another for my home office on my own. Wow...so much easier now that I'm not connecting 5 cables every time I bring the notebook home for the day. My notebook power adapter supplies power to the replicator/notebook system and I leave it connected. My replicator at work already has it's own adapter brick. Bonus: I couple this port replicator with a KVM switch at home so I can share the same monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers for my work computer and my family desktop PC. Now I can push ONE button on the KVM switch to toggle between 2 PCs. Get this too! It is called "IOGEAR 2 Port USB Cable KVM Switch with Audio and Mic (GCS72U)". You won't regret it...my wife especially likes the switch so she can hop on our family PC quickly without being bothered by my work notebook configuration.

It works perfectly for a Dell Precision M6800. The 130w AC Adapter on the other hand was not enough to power the notebook but fortunately I had a spare 240w AC Adapter. So if your looking for a docking station that works for the M6800 this will work but the AC adapter will need to be more than 180w.

Teleworking in the pandemic, this unit allows me to connect two screens to my small laptop. The setup was easy and it works very well.

I bought this one to use at home. My workplace provided one for work but I needed a docking station at home to support two monitors plus the laptop monitor. Works well and certainly saves me time plugging and unplugging cables twice a week when I work at home. For $40 including shipping, can't beat the deal I got.
