Long review alert! Overall I think this is an awesome guitar. For me there was a small learning curve to learn how the string changing & tuning worked (see tips below). It sounds great! If you use this guitar with fx units, headphone amp with FX & FX pedals then *you may want to turn active mode OFF (its a button by the headphone jack). If I understand correctly Active mode is mainly for using the headphone jack (dry tone, no FX , no Reverb. Newer PRO model has onboard FX & more). Do some testing with your gear & this guitar with Active mode ON & OFF to get a feel for how it changes the sound & max volume then decide when & if at all to use Active mode. It Did alter the sound & tone with my gear. Also active mode runs on included 9v battery so you may want to test battery on occasion expecially if you stop getting sound from the headphone jack. The guitar plays great. The neck is awesome! The fretboard is cool. The frets are smooth on the sides. The action was good from the factory Not too high on mine & the intonation was almost perfect. The bridge looks high quality & has height & intonation adjustment for each string which is excellent. Fine tuning the intonation was easy. The neck was straight & some pro guitar techs will put very slight dip in the neck to prevent fret buzz so there's possible prefrence adjustments but I did Not notice any fret buzz. String change tuning tip: -Move the tuners counterclockwise to the loosest setting possible before feeding the new strings in through the bridge string slots (you have to open the 9v battery cover when changing strings). This will give you maximum tuning range for tuning the strings up to your desired pitches. - Pull each string tight after feeding it through its corresponding headplate locking slot (on the far edge of neck side by the 1st fret) before tightening the string locks for each string. *Heavy Duty Textured Nitrile Gloves Help Grip The Smaller Unwound Strings* (see pic) to pull them tight before tightening the string locks. - For the high E string you may want to use Cobalt and a thicker guage if you do a lot of string bending. Ive had cheaper high E strings break just tuning them up to pitch with this guitar. Maybe don't tighten the high E string locks quite as hard either. - For high E string you may want to further loosen its tuner knob a little *after* feeding it through the bridge but not too much, you can run out of screw threads. - For the high E string & maybe all the thinner unwound strings; If I have issues with them breaking more often than normal I might wrap them around the "headplate guardrail" a couple times after pulling them tight & not tightening the string locks quite as much. Maybe put a small mini window slide lock clamp holding the string winds on the rail with a little piece of textured glove as grippy padding between strings & clamp. - Always stretch the new strings after tuning them, then re tune after stretching a couple times. This helps the guitar stay in tune Much Better *especially if you do a lot of string bending. There are online YT videos by guitar companies & actual gtr techs on how to do this properly plus many other great tips & techniques for set up & maintenance. The truss rod is easy to adjust with included allen key on the pick ups side of the neck, just remove the small cover plate. *Ideas For Future Editions Of This Guitar*: - Rock Locks style universal adapters (no screws needed!) or The Strap style universal locking guitar strap which have Quick Release - A car friendly frame piece option/accessory that goes across the butt end of the guitar so the tuning pegs & strap peg Doesn't Dig Into My Leg When Playing This Guitar In My Car!! (I dont have this problem with my other brand travel guitar & I play in my car A Lot). - Upgraded guitar strings options (I would pay a little extra). All that being said, overall so far this is an awesome great sounding fun guitar at an exceptional price for the features.

I love this little guitar, and I don’t even travel with it! It’s got the same neck length/fret width as a regular guitar, but half the weight. I can play longer without my neck and shoulder getting sore. The detachable metal “frame” is my favorite feature (and no other travel guitar has it) is actually functional- it lets me feel the guitar sillluette against my body and forearm, which helps give it the feel of a regular guitar. The humbuckers sound good enough for my ears when plugged into my Fender modeling amp (I’m not a traditionalist who demands the authentic sound coming from a tube amp). If you’re picky, I’m sure you can put better pickups on it. Con’s: if you’re using it in silent mode, I.e. plug a headset into it, the on board electronics provides very limited distortion (but sounds good when plugged into an amp). It doesn’t hang the same way on you as a regular guitar- in addition to be half the weight, the weight distribution is completely different (the heaviest part of a regular electric guitar, the solid wood body, is completely gone) but it’s a small price to pay for all the good points. I’ve hardly touched my Fender Jag since I got this little guy 8 months ago.

-=Revised Review, with original still intact for reference:=- I initially received a guitar that stayed in tune, except for the G-string. I returned it and exchanged it for a replacement, but the same issue persisted. The G-string wouldn’t stay in tune even after one strum. I contacted customer service, who requested a video of the problem. I sent the video twice and received an email saying, "Thank you for the video, we'll be in touch shortly." However, two weeks passed without any further response. Frustrated, I felt like I had paid for a cool-looking stick with strings that I couldn’t play for more than a minute without issues. While the guitar came with a lot of accessories and looked great, it was ultimately unusable without proper customer support. I advised others to avoid this product and any Donner items. EDIT - 7/1/24: Donner reached out to me. They seem willing to help, and I'll update this review shortly. I've temporarily increased my rating by one star to reflect this effort. EDIT 2 - 7/2/24: Customer service is actively communicating with me, but there's still no real resolution. I’ve increased my rating by another star for their effort. EDIT 3 - 7/10/24: Donner credited me an amount I found satisfactory and sent me another guitar. This third guitar finally works well. The action is a bit high, but I can adjust it. It sounds great, and its size, case, and convenience for travel are excellent. Bottom line, I’m now satisfied with the product and the outcome. =TL/DR = Summary: 1) I received two faulty guitars with the same tuning issue. 2) Initial customer service was slow, but eventually, they provided a financial resolution. 3) I received a satisfactory third guitar. 4) Donner genuinely cares and resolved the issue, though it took some time. 4) My 30-day return window was a concern, but ultimately, I’m happy with the resolution. Final Note: Thank you, Donner Customer Service. I believe we’ve finally resolved the issue. ================ Original Review Title: "2 Guitars Later; Still No Resolution ... Customer Service Non-Existent" Original Review: The first one I got, well, it stayed in tune, all but the G-String ... Ok, so I returned it, as I waited for an answer from Donner as to how to remedy the situation and my return window was running out ... I opted to exchange it for a replacement one ... Once again, same issue, the G-String will not stay in tune at all ... And I mean, after -ONE STRUM- ... I notified customer service again, who asked that I provide a video of the issue, which I've done TWICE now, and got an email back both times saying "Thank you for the video, we'll be in touch shortly" ... Nothing, not a single thing, and it's another 2 weeks later ... I basically paid for a cool looking "stick" with strings that I haven't even been able to play for one full minute without major issues ... Yeah, it comes with a lot of "stuff" ... Yeah, it's cool looking, and, yeah, it's theoretically a great "idea" for a guitar ... Save yourself the hassle and disappointment of merely being able to stare at a stick with no customer support behind it, and find something else ... Seriously, find ANYTHING else but this (or just anything Donner in general at this point) ...

I am obsessed. Had no issues with action after tuning. Haven’t put her down since delivery. Her name is Pearl. I would consider myself an advanced beginner and see lots of progress in my future because she is so easy to play. Don’t know how easy/difficult changing strings are as the strings on it are holding tune well. Someone earlier here posted detailed info on tips to restringing, so I’ll be rereading that post before changing strings out.

Photos are update after mods. The electronics were usable, only clean tone with zero reverb, the active passive button created little change in tone, no master volume, so there was also no breakup sound, just tone and volume. In terms of just clean sound quality in itself, there was an immediate and step up improvement in clarity and volume after replacing the pots with obsidian telecaster wiring. There were no 'potentiometers', they were on a small pcb board, and the jacks and headphone jack, all plastic, like the inside of a cheap casio watch. Other reviewers mentioned breakage of switches during use. They would have if want to switch tones quickly and energetically while playing. Original tone volume knobs are small fiddly. But totally usable. So buy it to just travel or modify if you want to take advantage of features this guitar has that are only found on much more expensive guitars. And almost never to be found all together on one guitar. That was frustrating, and what prompted me to doing the mod. If in the future you want to pay $3k+, then modifying this would allow you to tell that luthier or manufacturer exactly what you want. This is why it was worth it for me, to create a platform to grow with. Pickups are now Dimarzio, but forums mentioned that the electronics would provide the most noticeable improvement so I may have sprung for pickups without needing to, but that was really fun too. The output jack after mod is in the same general location as the original hush x. Added an EP Boost pedal by Xotic, and that one thing makes the fender micro plus high modeling sounds clearer, tighter and more articulate, breaks up when attack harder, clean when play more gently. So the previous hush x headphone output and effects are now provided by a Fender Micro 'Plus (upgrade from micro). The way strap and belt loop strap, tummy pad made an incalculable comfort and playability difference. Oh, best part. Not in photos, i got a 'pistol handle shotgun case' here on amazon. It fits the 32" x now 8.5" width perfectly, narrower where only the head is and even angled to fit the new body shape. Looks smaller than original case and cleaner fit. I put 10s strings, truss rod works great for string height along with bridge saddles. Tuning of bridge works well but every day, or after harder playing, the strings go out of tune slightly. Final tally. It was definately worth it from the standpoint that you cannot get a 'for me' perfect playability guitar off the stand, but something like this allowed me to learn about guitars, and find my fit. I asked a pro level guitar player/instructor check this out and surprised by look/mods, but when held and strapped guitar on, he said it felt really good. Again, not for stage showing off, unless i think someone is there to make music and doesn't care, and then yes bring it on stage. That is not the immediate goal, learning and enjoying sitting for hours and hours is, ergonomics and body health is. Retaining focus on playing not discomfort is. It is not okay to just get used to bad posture and pain, and the fretting hand should not be doing multiple support duties for the neck. This is what I am told. So this design allowed me to let the neck be there and focus on movement around the fretboard. With one metal arm on..which I padded with tennis tape with hot water pipe insulation under it, now it all weighs total 5.5lbs. Without any upgrades, imho the hush x is okay to actually take somewhere to practice on and come back home to another main guitar. i turned this into my number one. I can literally walk around with it and the neck isn't hitting furniture, the strings sustain more due to headless design, less string tension for bends, great sound. Love it. Imho if you don't want to do all this for your main guitar, then save up a bit more and consider the strdbrg elements model. It will will cost 1/3 more than an upgraded hush x. It will be bigger and weigh 1.5 lbs more, but will feel and sound like a precision instrument. I like the hush x asymmetrical satin neck much more in hand, this is why I went the upgrade a hush x route after a long deep dive. Prev post: First two months with guitar: Neck is smooth and silky, wonderful feel after many modern C strat necks, this one is superb. Sounded a bit low volume, but this is for any guitar till adjust action and truss rod, noone can not, even at guitar shop getting an expert guitar, just so you are not dissatisfied before hearing this rock after setup. Pickups are clear, but after I adjusted trus rod to lift strings on low end of fretboard, then lowered bridge saddles so that then the strings were not so high on the high end of fretboard, tweaked until no buzz. Then the pickups were articulate and satisfactory volume. Want louder, connect the headphone jack into your stereo aux input, or battery operated speaker. A fender micro into 1/4" jack gives me reverb and delay I craved. I think Donner could add those two things and make this kill all competition. The pickups need pickup springs. They have foam behind them to push them up, but turning screw will not lift them to desired height, they catch. So you would have to pull each out after adjusting screw. That's not very accurate or satisfying so I added a $13 set of pickup springs, worked for the humbucker and the single coil just right. The included strings sound fine but did not sparkle, so I got half rounds by addario. 10-46 being a bit thicker will also increase output, this is just one of those guitar facts of life. The strap button at the bottom of the guitar flips guitar forward. So have a tech take that out and place it under the low E tuner, problem solved. The one at the heal behind guitar will not anchor neck. Even though no neck dive, balance is good, but I want it to stay put. So attach neck end of strap by string to the headcap of guitar, and done, neck is anchored solid. Guitar tends to swing to right side still, so this is why thete are waist guitar straps being made by smart aftermarket people. But i just took a vinyl belt around waist, and locked the butt end of guitar to this belt, sewed the strap on. So now I put on neck strap, and then clip my right side belt to the strap button, now it will not shift. Find a way to sew that cheap belt onto the included strap. Otherwise, your left hand is being used to stabilize, and you wont enjoy or will have wrist fatigue or likely give up playing because the human body hates it, or turn of feeling in body and then not play music anyway lol. I just want good ergonomics. Pro: Amazing value, amazing portability, easy to hold and carry, and take with, or just get on with in living room, and can add any upgrade to absolute pro level any time later (of you play on stage or record). It still sounded great to many professional reviewers. Expect to set up, adjust straps or modify for you not based on stock whatever is provided. Cons: No specific cons interfering with use as just a travel guitar, but it will move around, hard to hold secure against body, will need a quality headphone amp as just clean tone no reverb or delay or any choice of amp modeling will make this use case as a acoustic guitar. So then just get the acoustic version, plus it weighs even less.

Hats off to Donner for making this amazing guitar, a lot of thought has gone into its making. So compact, lovely finish, super easy to put together and dismantle, just love the bag and how it all fits in. Tone and playability is very good too. If you're looking for the perfect travel guitar and value for money don't think twice! Go for it!

The guitar is very good, the tools for setup and directions are included in the instructions. 9v Battery was missing from the included accessories, although the rest of the item looked new with strings etc still in their factory wrapping.
