I own and have owned a lot of really nice guitars, both old and new, and made by both companies and individual makers. Does the Enya compare to these guitars in tone? No. But the guitar is marketed as a travel guitar. Lightweight and small, it delivers more sound than you would expect. Does the Enya compare to the other guitars in playability? Yes--in fact better than many of them. The neck is comfortable and the fretwork is actually very very good. I'd probably prefer a bit smaller radius on the fretboard, but that's just personal taste. It plays great, and the small size frequently makes me reach for it above other guitars because I can play it in an armchair and grab it with one hand from across the room. I did lower the action a bit by lowering the saddle, but the factory action was decent. I just wanted it a bit lower. I build and repair stringed instruments so I was comfortable in doing this. Again, it played fine right out of the box. I'm just a bit of a guitar snob. I've had Martins and other good brands with much worse playability out of the box. The fact that the Enya's construction makes it safe to take out in bad weather, leave in a hot car and other things that I just wouldn't do with a "better" guitar makes it a great travel instrument. Especially combined with its low cost. Does the Enya's fit and finish compare with other guitars? Yes. The fit and finish are quite good. Finish on the fret ends is particularly impressive. Bottom line--This is sold as an inexpensive travel guitar. It is definitely that. It doesn't sound like a megabuck acoustic, but I like the sound nonetheless. It plays really well, regardless of price point. It's a fun and practical little guitar, and it would be a bargain at several times its price in my opinion. It's amazing to me that such a playable, enjoyable little guitar can be sold at such a low price.

I've been looking for an inexpensive travel guitar, but have yet to be impressed with the sound of the ones I've seen. I didn't want something that sounded like a toy, so I wondered if this one could be as good as some of the reviews. There are plenty of negative reviews too and the Amazon listing labels it as a "frequently returned item", so I didn't have high hopes. When it arrived and I saw the tiny box, I was sure I would send it right back. Instead, I opened it and took a look. It came packaged well from the factory in a nice padded case. It tuned right up and I only had to retune it once after the new steel strings stretched and acclimated. Now for the moment of truth, that first strum. I held my breath and hit a G cord; to my surprise, it wasn't horrible! I played through some chord progressions and I must say, I couldn't stop smiling. I've been playing for years, and sitting here with my Martins and my expensive Rainsong graphite, I can't put this little thing down! It's so much fun to play. It's not loud but does the job for a practice travel guitar. It has a bright sound, but not what I would call "tinny". I live in a humid climate in FL and so far it stays in tune inside and out. It's made from carbon fiber which is unaffected by humidity and temperature. It will be perfect to take to the beach! I'm an engineer and I know about composites, so I know this thing will stand up to the rigors of travel. It's small enough to fit easily into an airplane overhead bin and probably into a large suitcase. I plan to take it everywhere! At the black Friday price of $79, you can't go wrong.

I picked this up on sale more or less out of curiosity. I have a number of acoustic guitars but they are all larger, mostly full-sized dreadnoughts, and all made of wood. I figured it would be nice to have a travel guitar that I don't have to be precious about (I used to have a Taylor GS Mini but I wound up selling it because it was too nice for my intended purpose). So, as far as this goes, here's my take: Don't have unrealistic expectations about what it is and isn't and I think most people will be well-satisfied with its value and utility. It does look and feel a little like a toy--the body is so small that it suffers from just a little bit of what the Martin Backpacker suffers from in form factor: It does not sit that comfortably in the lap in playing position, at least not without a strap. The body feels very plastic-y but with a pretty smooth texture, and the neck feels pretty much the same since it's the same stuff. It doesn't bother me much but it definitely feels like you're interacting with plastic and not wood. For me personally the neck shape doesn't feel super comfortable but that's a personal preference thing--for some I'm sure it would feel great. Even traditional acoustics are usually pretty light, and this is lighter--the material is light and there's not that much of it. As far as the sound, it is louder than you might expect for something so small, but don't expect it to compare with a full-size or even like a parlor size guitar. It sounds boxy because it's a little box, but that's just the laws of physics at work. It sounds much fuller than something like a Backpacker or like an unplugged semihollow electric or acoustasonic. Overall I think in sound and playability it compares favorably with low-end entry-level acoustics (think Rogue dreadnoughts--it won't have the low end of a bigger body, but it's surprisingly loud considering how tiny and light it is. Playability is much better than those if the cramped size doesn't bother you--the frets, nut (well, string guide in this case), saddle, etc, are much better than other low-end acoustics as they are a more integral part of the design and not slapped together. If it does keep itself together the way a "real" carbon fiber guitar would, it should be much less at the mercy of temperature and humidity than a wood guitar, so I'm hoping what is a good value and a pretty good beater/travel guitar will really stand out in value if it can be abused and resist the elements (ie, be left in a hot or cold car without self-destructing). All in all, if you don't expect it to sound like a full-sized guitar and aren't bothered by the plastic-y feel or the mild awkwardness of the small body, it seems like a great couch or travel guitar and maybe a great starter guitar (the only caveat I'd have to giving it to a beginner is how it doesn't love sitting in a lap, but if the student is small enough that might actually be a benefit and it'll fit them better).

I bought this guitar to be part of the gear carried on my camp cruiser sailboat. I wanted a guitar that did not take up a lot of space and would be able to withstand the inevitable bumps and humidity such usage would dictate. This guitar has exceeded my expectations as it is solidly and flawlessly constructed. Out of the box all that was needed was for it to be tuned, no other adjustments. It weighs in at 1.7 kg which is slightly more than my two other travel guitars. I would describe the sound of the guitar as bright, not unpleasant to my ear, just different. Yes it does not have the richness of tone of my Taylor GS mini, but I did not expect this of a guitar that costs a third of the Taylor. That said I enjoy picking up the guitar to practice as it plays well and has a nice feel to it.
