I'm a guitarist who plays bass on their own records. I don't often play bass and find that Ernie Ball stays pretty fresh for a good number of months when not playing often. If you're playing daily or a few times a week then you'll probably end up with dull strings in a little under a month. The tone is good but I also don't put too much stock in string brands for tone as most of it is coming from the player and I don't obsess over that part on bass. The break-in period isn't long. You can break these in within 24 hours if you restring, play for an hour, then let them sit. I'm used to Ernie Ball from years of playing guitar and they're always reliable and never had a complaint about the strings. They're great everyday strings and I wouldn't criticize anyone for using them. I don't use them on guitar anymore but wouldn't have a problem with using them again if I had to.

MEANING OF TYPES: -Hybrid: lighter and easier on the hands for those who haven't gotten their calluses yet. Has brighter tones to it. These don't require a lot of finger power to hold down as the others. If you are new bassist, choose this one. (super and extra are also really light and similar. I don't really know the difference as I have never used those two). -Beefy: These big boy require more finger power and has a hotter output with punchier tone to it. This is your basic metal genre strings. Great for when you play lower tunings. If you play metal a lot, choose these. -Regular: most rounded sounding one. If you don't have another bass, or play a lot of different styles of music. Choose these. -Power: used more for classic rock and roll music. Like that music, choose these. The material also makes a difference: -Nickel: Bright, balanced tone -Cobalt: Wide dynamic range with increased low end and crisp highs -Stainless Steel: Bright, crisp, “edgy” tone Solid strings with a long life span and are definitely worth your time and money. I bought the regular as the are the really good for any kind of music. Hope this helps a bit!

Bought these for our Grandson who recently started playing bass. Put the strings on a very old Jackson bass I've had in the closet for years. The strings sounded good and felt good. The only issue I had was the E string sounded a little dull, not as bright as the other strings. Other than that i feel it was a good purchase. Not a bad price either. I even got an extra set for my own bass. I'll buy again.

Ernie Ball strings are the best -- in overall quality, tone, longevity. Definitely recommend

Ernie Ball strings have ALWAYS been a top favorite of mine. They stay in tune very well, the size of these strings is incredible and makes for easy playability. The strings are incredibly durable as I'm a punk rock player and I can beat these strings to a pulp without them breaking. They are a top choice for me every time!
