I received this rather slowly, but after unpacking it, it was extremely simple to operate. No guesswork, and only a few buttons. I plugged it in, filled it with a couple of quarts of water, selected "small cubes" and in about 8 minutes the first batch was delivered, and every 8 minutes after that until the bin was full and "ice full" lit up on the control panel. I emptied the bin into a freezer container and pushed "start" again. It takes about an hour and a half to fill the bin, which is equal to about two ordinary ice cube trays, which is about a quart of water, so in three or four hours, you have the equivalent of four ice cube trays to store in your freezer. The "large" ice cubes are about 50% bigger than the "small." Neither is really large, but I prefer the small size. They also work better in my ice crusher (Hamilton Beach) for even finer ice for super cold drinks. This machine does make a little noise from the fan and when it empties the ice into the bin, but it's a kind of reminder that it's on, because if you leave it in the ice maker, it will melt and then make the same ice over and over, which is terribly wasteful. It is not a freezer. You have to get some plastic bins from 99 cent store or Walmart and then find a place in your freezer. Occasionally the ice will be melted slightly, causing it to stick together in your plastic containers. If you get a metal ice scoop you can break the ice apart with that. Even better is a meat tenderizer mallet which will break it apart in just a couple of whacks. This is small enough to fit in an out of the way place (on a low table, for instance) yet big enough and fast enough to make plenty of ice for everyday use or parties.

Click to play video UPDATE: After 2.5 months I learned if I use really cold water the cubes will be bigger than if I use room temperature water. I freeze water in a 16 ounce sour cream container to give me a good size ice cube then I put that in the ice maker reservoir and fill with tap water. Original Review Purchased this out of necessity due to my freezer breaking down. We didn't want to have to run to the store for ice every other day so we bought this ice maker. Three friends commented that these are the 'good' cubes. Some things to know... 1) The instructions say not to tilt the machine beyond 45 degrees and this includes transportation. No fault of the Amazon delivery person but the box was in three different position when he was bringing it to the door. Who knows what position these ice makers are stored?! The box isn't labeled 'this side up.' The instruction say leave the machine sitting in the proper position for 2 hours but knowing refrigeration units it should be left upright longer. I left ours overnight before using. 2) The first batch of ice isn't that great with fewer cubes and some only being partial cubes. See pic. After that they're all great. 3) If transferring to a freezer use a plastic container for storage. Stainless steel freezes the cubes together. Also, after a few minutes of freezer time break up the cubes with the scoop because when transferred, the cubes will be dripping water which will freeze the cubes together. Use a towel under the tray when transferring or water will get on your floor. Once they're broken up and frozen then all is good. 4) There's very little difference between large cubes and small cubes. One pic shows a batch of each side by side. 5) Contrary to others reviews the ice makers isn't hard to drain. The video shows how to drain the machine and the entire action of getting the cubes from the frozen fingers into the tray. 6) One pic shows the sensors that determine when the ice tray is full. I pull the ice forward to clear the sensor path. This gets another 27 cubes into the tray when the entire tray is full and not just the back of the tray. 7) When the entire tray is full it holds 108 ice cubes (12 batches of 9 cubes) yielding 626 grams or 1lb 6 1/8 ounces of ice in 102 minutes. 8) It takes approximately 8.5 minutes per batch of ice (9 cubes). I did the math and that would be about 19.5 lbs of ice in 24 hours of continuous ice making and not stopping to fill the water reservoir or transferring ice out of the tray. I think the claim of 26 lbs in 24 hours is a little aggressive although the batch time does vary. 9) The reservoir holds approximately 76 ozs. of water which yields about 2-5/8 baskets of ice weighing about 3 lbs. 12 ozs. It takes about 4 hours before the reservoir is empty of water. All in all... I love this ice maker and highly recommend it. If you found this review helpful, please click the ‘helpful’ button below. This machine makes great ice cubes in a hurry! You can make a bunch of ice a d freeze it. It tastes great, small enough to put in big or small thermos or water bottles. Very useful for apartments that have small freezer. Make a bunch ahead of time and freeze it! This is NOT ice made in the freezer. It will not be hard ice, but it is ice and really good. STOP putting these ice makers down. They're not frozen like you make ice cubes in the freezer and wait 24 hours to use them. These are made in about 9 minutes. No way will they be as hard as a regular ice cube!easy to drain unused water in the machine. Drain it every time.

Pros: It's not loud- it's fast - easy to use - very munchable ice. Cons: ice transferred to a freezer turns into a hard clump due to ice being wet still. Ice melts in drinks rapidly, this waters down the drink instead of making it as cold as it could.

I bought this because our refrigerator ice maker cannot keep up with our needs. If I am around the house one or two days a week I spend some time making ice and store it in the freezer to supplement. This makes a bin of ice relatively quickly, however, there is no freezer component to this ice maker so it melts as it fills up. If you are not on top of emptying the bin when it gets full the ice obviously melts. When the ice is made I usually just dump it into a large freezer bag, freeze it until the next bin is ready, smash the bag to loosen the previous ice that I had put in there (which freezes into a solid chunk because it was melty) and repeat that cycle until I have about 2 bags made. It is really not as much work as it sounds. If I were to have a party I would probably make ice ahead of time as I do not think this would make ice fast enough for a group larger than 4. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and for the price point, it works well.

I bought this one because a friend had one similar, branded differently, but I thought it was the same one. It is! Let it sit if it’s been turned over moved, around in shipping etc and fire it up. Started making cubes as quickly as I expected. Remember....it’s not a freezer so remove the cubes as soon as the tray is getting full or sooner if you want them to keep. Don’t worry if you don’t though, they will just keep recycling until you use them. I’m very happy with this maker! Edit….if you’re having a hard time getting ice quickly try this little tip. Add some ice to the water when you turn it on for the day. Ice starts making sooner and the cubes are larger! (Added this two years after purchase)

We have bought a few of these. One for our house, one for our holiday trailer and a couple for gifts. Just love it! There is always fresh ice.

We don't have to go out for ice and have it half melted by the time we get home. The Igloo is easy to use and one session of ice making will last us for a week.

First things first. It says not to flip upside down. It's like a freezer, there's freon and other magical technology that requires a level surface. I let it sit a few hours before I plugged it in. By the hand of Odin, I have ice! Thank the gods of frost and water. I just had acl surgery on my knee and it's perfect for regular ice to fill my cryo cuff. It's not that fast so you'll need to give it a couple hours of ice making. Going to the fill line with water makes about two trays full of ice. You'll have to empty the tray and put the ice into a bowl and put it in your freezer. Do that twice and theirs enough ice to fill the cryo cuff. No more ice cube trays yaay! Some reviews say large cubes get stuck. But I've had no problem. Large is the way to go but it takes longer to make, obviously. Large fan on the right side duspels hot air, it's a machine, it creates heat, duh. Make sure there's a good pathway to let it vent. I've been running this thing pretty steady in the morning and in the evenings to stock my ice up. Hopefully it can handle the constant use!
