I've had two pervious models of the Opal and GE nugget ice machines. The first two eventually died due to gunk buildup in the internals over time. You really need to stick to a schedule for cleaning these machines, as they are a breeding ground for bacteria and algae. Luckily they seem to keep making improvements in each model and this one has done the best job so far in staying clean. I clean it every two weeks with vinegar or an ice machine cleaning liquid (I alternate) and this seems to work fine for both organic and mineral buildup. I would highly recommend using highly filtered or better yet, distilled water for this if you are able. The cleaner you can get the water going in then the easier time you will have with keeping it clean. I really like that this model has an upgraded side-tank capacity and that helps with keeping it going for my family of 5. The dark metal look is very nice and classy. I've tried some of the aftermarket filters for it and they all seem to make the ice maker think it's run out of water. I haven't found a reliable brand that works for this yet. I was able to find a local company that would deliver me distilled water and so far this is the best solution by far. Overall I'm very happy with this ice machine and love the nugget ice it produces. Company always comments on it and they are very impressed. My wife and my whole family love it.

I ordered this GE Profile Opal 2.0 XL and I really like it. As someone who loves the "good" ice, it absolutely feels like a luxury to be able to have it at home, anytime I want. This ice maker is a serious machine. It's fairly sizeable, and it's heavy. It makes a lot of ice quickly. The addition of the side tank is great because it makes refilling the water so much easier. Set-up was fairly straightforward, and once the machine got through its initial cleaning cycles, it got straight to making ice. Since it's a WiFi-enabled appliance, I went ahead and set it up in the app. That set-up was easy as well, and it allows for scheduling, etc, but given the amount of ice our household consumes daily, I haven't really needed to utilize the app much. Cleaning the machine regularly is important, but it can be cumbersome if your machine is far from your sink, because the machine is heavy and big. Since my machine is across the kitchen from my sink, I've been using a bucket to catch what drains from the lines during cleaning. It's a bit awkward, but it works. I use the filter designed for this model, as well as RO water to extend the time between cleanings, because cleaning the machine is a whole process. Overall, I really enjoy this ice maker. While the higher cost is a factor worth considering, the ability to have the "good" ice anytime I want it is pretty priceless!

Click to play video Quick Overview: Well, well, well, would you look at this! A machine worthy of my chilly touch! As the one and only Snow Miser, I demand only the frostiest, crunchiest, most exquisite ice—and let me tell you, this beauty delivers! I may have spent centuries perfecting the art of freezing entire cities, but this little machine. It’s got me beat. If you love ice the way I do (and you should), then get ready to chill in style! Pros: ❄️ Unboxing is as smooth as a fresh sheet of ice! Cut the straps, lift the lid—ta-da!—a perfect machine, no melting required. ❄️ Setup is simple, even for mere mortals. Two hoses in the back—one for drainage, one for the water tank. Labelled, because apparently, some people like my hotheaded brother struggle with this sort of thing. ❄️ Water in, ice out. Remove the water tank, fill it with only the purest glacial quality filtered or distilled water, and it’s ready to go. ❄️ Power button? Practically invisible! But once you find it (top right), it glows like a tiny northern light atop your counter. Quite charming, really. ❄️ Cleaning cycle is effortless! A quick rinse and it’s pristine again, unlike my brother’s disaster of a furnace room. ❄️ Ice production is a winter wonderland! More than enough to fill a pair of extra-large drinks in an hour—perfection! ❄️ Quiet as a snowfall. Unlike certain family members, this thing knows how to operate without causing a ruckus. ❄️ Storage is easy! Dump the ice, drain the water, and it’s ready to create another frosty masterpiece! ❄️ THE ICE! Ahh, the sweet, crunchy, beautiful nugget ice—just like at Sonic, only without the wait! Cons: 🔥 $452? A bit steep, even for a snow-capped prince like myself. But for this kind of cold perfection, I suppose it’s worth every frozen penny. Tips: ❄️ Use distilled or filtered water! Tap water? The horror! You wouldn’t serve slush to the Ice King, would you? ❄️ If you want to save the ice, dump it in a bag and freeze it before it gets too mushy. Nobody likes slushy ice! My Take: This? This is a masterpiece! A work of frozen art! I have spent my entire existence crafting ice and snow, and somehow, this machine makes it better! My wife (yes, even a Frost King needs a Queen!) has wanted one of these for several trips of that old man in the red suit, and now that we have it, she absolutely loves it. If you truly appreciate ice in all its glory, don’t hesitate—this is the machine for you. Just don’t tell my overheated brother… He’ll blow a gasket. As an aside, the noise in the video was from the cleaning cycle. It is WAY quieter when making ice. Grandpa Joke for the Well-Traveled: Why did the ice cube break up with the freezer? Because it felt too pressured to settle down! 😆 Frosty Facts—Cooler Than a Yeti’s Toes ❄️ As a Vine reviewer, I know my words carry chilling weight—could be the difference between someone dropping cash or giving a product the cold shoulder. Also, fun fact: I still gotta pay Uncle Sam about 40% of the product’s retail value in taxes, so trust me, I don’t sugarcoat. I ice-coat. Here’s how I rate things, from lukewarm to downright glacial: ⭐ 1 Star: Nope. Colder than a snowman’s handshake. ⭐⭐ 2 Stars: Slightly better than slipping on black ice. ⭐⭐⭐ 3 Stars: Meh. It’s the room-temperature soda of purchases. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 Stars: Solid, does the job, and won’t melt under pressure. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 Stars: Absolute chef’s kiss—cool, crisp, and worth every frozen cent. When I talk pricing, I’ve compared it to similar products—no hype, no hot air, just the straight-up, frostbitten truth. ❄️

I have only had a short time couple weeks. Getting add water error. Have done all trouble shooting. Clean sensor, check lines for air pocket, make sure water flowing, clean cycle, reset. Nothing working so returning.
