This is my first experience with a Govee product, and so far I'm impressed. These lights have a unique shape to them, almost retro like those old lava lamps. I think they look nice. The lights are very lightweight, so they can be supported by the wire, or directly on the bulb itself with two openings molded into the base. Setting up the lights with the Govee app was straightforward. The instructions were clear and everything just worked. Although the last thing I really wanted was yet another app on my phone, the app looks polished and works well. If you're into blinking and fading colors and all that then you have a zillion different choice of scenes. You can also create your own, as well as sync the lights with music. I didn't try that, nor did I try the AI bot to create custom lighting effects, I'm really not into any of that but the capabilities seem extensive if that interests you. I'm pretty deep into home automation and have close to 100 ZigBee and z-wave devices in my home, using Hubitat Elevation (HE) as the hub. HE recently added support for Matter devices, and although I really don't have much interest in Matter at this time, I thought I'd test the waters with these string lights. This is my first Matter-capable device. Using the latest version of the HE firmware and the mobile app on Android, I was able to join the lights to HE using Matter on the first try. I really wasn't expecting that to go smoothly, so kudos to Govee and Hubitat for adhering to standards and providing a seamless experience. The built-in "Generic Matter RGBW Light" driver provided basic control of the lights. I also downloaded the community-supported "Govee Integration v2" app for HE. Once I obtained an API key from the Govee app, the integration was able to control the lights locally via Govee's Lan API. I'm not a huge fan of cloud-connected devices, so it's nice to know that I can control these without being reliant on Govee's cloud servers. I did not try connecting to Hubitat via Alexa or Google Home, but I imagine the process would work well on those platforms too. To summarize, you have multiple methods of controlling these lights: the Govee app, an automation system capable of using Matter over Wifi devices, and using the Govee Lan API. Getting back to the lights themselves, the instructions don't state whether you can shorten or extend the length. Given that these are not cheap, I wouldn't cut off any excess bulbs unless the manufacturer explicitly said it was ok. There is a capped-off connector at the end opposite of where the power supply plugs in, but the product description states: "Please note the total length should not exceed 48ft (including adapter)." which seems to imply that you shouldn't chain multiple strings together. All in all, these are nice lights. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Not for any particular reason, but I used to have a neutral, if not ambivalent feeling towards Govee. However, assuming this product is representative of their other products, I would definitely buy another Govee product should I have a need.

I love all govee products and when I saw this new design, i immediately purchased 2 sets for our backyard. The lights themselves work great and are beautiful and easy to setup and control through the app. However, you CANNOT connect 2 light strands together in series. No where does it mention this and even in the ad video, it shows multiple lights connected to each other. If 48’ is long enough for you, again, these lights are amazing and highly recommend. If you need longer than 48’, I advise you to purchase another set of lights that you can connect in series or purchase a longer strand. Unfortunately, these appear to only be offered in one length. The ends do have an option to connect another strand so hopefully there’s an update in the future that will allow for more to be connected.

Click to play video So I admit that I am biased a bit in that I like stuff that Govee makes. I generally find their stuff to be good quality with an easy to use app, and this appears to be no exception. They are not the cheapest option out there but they seem to be consistently good products that represent a good value. The bulbs are larger than most "outdoor Italian garden string lights" but the string is long and I am excited to get them setup around our RV at our property. Should make relaxing outside in the evening really nice. The lights themselves have a lot of functionality. All the basics you would expect - dimming, changing colors, etc. But the app really gets interesting with some of the more advanced features. Like some others I've seen, it can pulse and color change based on sound - listening from the app or the bulb set. But that's just a warm up.... The app has an "AI function" where it can create a scene based on a picture you upload. Pretty cool. But there's more - it has a scene designer but even more cool, you can choose to play a scene someone else built and uploaded. Just going through and playing with all the features will probably take an entire night. Lol. I was having a blast playing with them. I have to admit, I'm very impressed with these and cannot wait to get them setup outside at the ranch.

very nice lights, very well packaged. the quality is excellent. the lights are really bright and colorfull. the lights are dimmable which is nice. they are easy to hang up and the cords are of good quality. i love being able to use my phone to turn them on and off and adjust the colors.

I put these Govee string lights up in our backyard, and they’ve totally transformed the space. The colors are vibrant, the warm white is cozy, and I love how easy it is to control them with Alexa. They’ve made our evenings outside so much more fun!
