First of all, this book is a work of art in itself, before you ever even start cooking. Secondly, recipes are delicious and healthy. Love this book!

Truly one of the best cookbook authors of our generation this and six seasons, instant classics, beautiful books and revolutionary as far as cookbooks go.

I loved six seasons, so was excited for his new cookbook. So far every recipe we have had been delicious. As a mom trying to fit in nutrition wherever I can, I appreciate the wholesomeness of the diverse grain types, and as a cook I appreciate the deliciousness. It is also so important with modern farming forgoing old grains into irresponsibly farming wheat and soy to create a market for a diverse group of grains to help replenish the earth and help farmers expand their crop seasons responsibly. Grains for every season makes this easy

Borrowed this from a friend and couldn't stop making the recipes for ourselves, so we bought this copy. Great tips on new dishes as well as enhancements for dishes we already make. Also includes some spices and sauces that are nice to have around. Highly recommend!

Well, Joshua McFadden did it again. After going all in on his first book, I didn’t think it could get any better as far as cooking goes - until I discovered he had a second book. Just like his first incredible book Six Seasons, this grain book makes cooking fun again. The recipes are attainable, easy, fun, mostly simply, and most of all, beyond delicious. I made 3 of the recipes the first day I got it and just sat smiling like an idiot in my kitchen while I was eating. But his books. You won’t ever regret it. The man can cook.

I so loved this author's first book that I pre-ordered this as soon as I saw it. We've made three recipes so far (a mushroom soup, the meatloaf, and power cookies) and each has been fabulous! The directions are written in more of a conversational manner, which means reading them through entirely before you begin is probably a good idea. But there are some helpful hints tucked in there too, so it's worth it. The thing I've been most impressed with is the use of layering flavors. The directions definitely have more steps than other collections, often cooking individual components separately rather than dumping everything in together. But the extra time and care show in the finished product. Several times in the process I wondered at an ingredient and questioned if the spice or flavor would be too much or unpleasant, but each time I was pleasantly surprised. There were times I wouldn't have chosen that particular spice, but it fit and was delicious. Looking forward to trying more recipes from this book and, hopefully, books to come!

His first cookbook, Six Seasons is one of my very favorite go-to cookbooks. Love the recipes and they all work. Decided to buy this one without looking at in a store. Haven't been disappointed. Flavors are interesting and wonderful. So many unexpected combinations. Been serving some of the salads and sides to people when we go to potluck-style parties. Everyone is so amazed. Have a bagful of the amazing meatballs in my freezer. So nice to just cook them up as we go since there are only two of us. Would recommend this for anyone. As expected, vegetables play a beautiful role in these recipes, but the addition of all the different whole grains is healthy and delicious.

I pull for this cookbook way more often than any other ones. Most of the recipes are really healthy and don’t sacrifice taste, so they’re great for daily lunches. I went from using whole grains once in a blue moon, to just about every week.

Josh McFadden is definitely knows what he's talking about. In my family, we have both of his cookbooks (this one and The Six Seasons) and they're some of our most frequently used cookbooks. If you like vegetables and/or grains at all, check them out! (Meat eaters included - the cookbook is written for a general audience of anybody who enjoys eating grains, not specifically focused towards vegetarians or vegans. There is a wide selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian recipe ideas.)
