I don't often write reviews, but figured this might help someone on the fence about this tool: I've owned the tool about a week, so still can't speak to longevity of the product, but so far, I LOVE it. I'm guessing that those that hate it might be used to using heavier duty, gas powered, professional units. #1 I was in the market for a new trimmer/edger, and since I already have the chainsaw and leaf blower, and a couple big batteries for the greenworks, thought I'd give this a try. #2 I'm a 54 year old woman, 5'3" tall and about 128 pounds, who has been using a ryobi string trimmer for the past 3 years. This greenworks unit is incredible by comparison. I'm able to shorten the unit to string trim or edge comfortably, without undue strain on my arms and shoulders (the ryobi was too long, and I had to darn near contort myself to keep it up off the ground when I used it, the balance being off for someone of my stature). #3 I used the unit to trim and edge my professional cut flower field, consisting of (8) 40- foot, in-ground beds, plus (4) 50-foot exterior timber frame beds. It took one 4ah battery, plus a little of the 2ah battery that came with the unit. Now that I'm comfortable using it, I anticipate co.pleting the entire field with just the one battery. #4 I followed the directions for auto releasing the string, and experienced *no issues* at all. Each time you use the auto release function, as others have stated, it only releases about 1/4" of line, and it released flawlessly each and every time. Read and follow directions. #5 By the end of last year's flower season I was half dead from trying to prevent the grass paths from growing into the beds. I shed tears of gratitude last week using this to edge and lightly trench the beds, thinking of the many, many hours of hands and knees work I might now be liberated from doing. #6 Unit did a fair job of cutting tough pasture grasses so that I could move my chicken coops and electric net to fresh ground. For the price point and utility, I believe it to be a great purchase.

Trimmer stopped working and reported just after warranty date. After a bit of a wait customer service(Green works, NOT Amazon)went thru some painless diagnostics with me on the phone. Made decision to replace unit under warranty and fed-x new unit next day delivery. NOW that is customer service.

After struggling trying to start our gas powered edger, I pulled the trigger on purchasing this combo pack. It is a game changer! So powerful for an electric tool! I have yet to have the battery run out on me doing the yard work ( my use is less than 30 minutes). But I did buy a back up battery to have on hand if it does happen. Best garden tool investment I have made in a long time.

I bought this to replace the 12" model from 2020. That model, I had modified to be more similar to an old B&D that I had. The B&D had a simple slide coupling on the shaft by the head that allowed you to rotate the head for edging, something I missed on the Greenworks 12" trimmer. My resolution, disassemble the shaft connector on the trimmer, drill a 2nd hole for the locking pop-up. This allowed me to "simply" loosen the wingnut on the coupling, push in the pop-up and rotate the head. Not great, but honestly worked great. When the 13" Greenworks trimmer / edger came out, I said I would give it a try. I read many many review, many bad, yet still bought it to see if I would like it. Note that I have not used for any longer than 5 minutes yet, so I will update after a long use. Observations I have made so far: 1. Heavier than the 12" though it is quite shorter. Note the descriptions say otherwise, yet if feels heavier to me. I believe that this is a balance issue. I am about 6' tall and find it uncomfortable to hold. With the forward grip as far forward as the coupling, when held at the grip, the trimmer was vertical. My old 12" is nearly horizontal with the same test. 2. The Trimmer is single line, meaning only 1 line is out and cutting vs 2 on the 12" 3. The spool cover is very difficult to remove compared to the 12". Not sure if it is "newness", but I almost opted to grab a tool of some sort to remove it. 4. The battery is on top of the handle portion, such that it is right where your forearm / elbow want to be. This is the biggest deal breaker for me. On the 12", the battery went in the back like this one, yet it went straight back. On this one, it sticks up, forcing you to bend your arm to hold it. After 45 minutes of use my arm / elbow / wrist were quite sore. See the attached pic. 5. It takes thinner string than the 13". I did not notice this on the spec when I purchased, not really concerned, but it should be noted. The 13" takes .0625" dia line. I found that this line broke much quicker during edging. I found myself constantly advancing string. 6. There is a wheel on the guard for edging. Great idea, however, the distance from the wheel to the guard is about 1-1.5". As a result, if you have thicker lawn, the guard is going to get caught on the grass. I used the wheel about 10% of the time, found it more trouble than it's worth. 7. The change from trimming to edging is easy, that part they got right. 8. I found the spool cover very difficult to remove. It appears that the holes for the push in tabs are further down the spool than on the 12" such that they are close the hub and you can not get good leverage to push them in. I did this 5 times and nearly went to get a tool to have handy for the next time. I ran this for about 45 minutes, maybe 5 minutes trimming, rest edging. I really wanted to like it, but that is not the case. One comment others made was about the string not coming out of the hole. I had to remove the cover and reroute the string 4 times. I found the issue to be the factory wound string was too tight. My takeaway from this trimmer is that they had a lot of ideas and slapped them on it without proper evaluation. Some of the quirks I could over look, but the battery placement / orientation was the deal breaker for me. Since I paid about 55 for this, I will either sell it or possibly see if I can gut it and use it the articulating head with my 12". Speaking of the 12" , after running the 13" for 45 minutes, I used my 12" for some trimming I forgot about. It was so comfortable.

I received this machine yesterday and tried to use it today. Compared with a professional cordless cordless string trimmer I used before, I have to give this Greenworks 13-inch cordless string trimmer as full score with its great design. The advantages are there are an adjustable telescoping shaft and an adjustable pivoting head, and it is light weight. I am so glad to have this nice little machine.

El equipo funciona muy bien. La pila tiene muy buena duración incluso más de lo que menciona la descripción. No me he quedado sin pila y además, carga rápido. Soy nueva con este tipo de equipos y aún no sé si era mejor el de doble hilo. La he usado como 6 veces para hierba fina y sacate. No corta maleza (hierba más gruesa) pues se acaba muy rápido el hilo y se atora.

I am happy with it but since it is my second one after 5 years of use, here is my desapointment. The only down side is i cannot use my other batteries 40 volts on it because the compagnie added a little plastic protector between the batterie contactor making the use of my previous batteries not to be usable? I had to use my old trimmer upper part connectedwith the new trimmer to be able to use my batteries so living the new upper part aside. Thanx for reading! Steve

I have a GreenWorks 40V Max Lawnmower but the battery is not compatible with this trimmer. Half of the product description on this page is how they have the "Largest 40V system" and "One battery fits all" but this is a lie.
