When our wonderful Scotsman pebble icemaker failed after 7 years, the repairman recommended Hoshisaki instead. I decided to give it a try. Pros: fit perfectly in the same under counter space. Hoshisaki is less expensive, makes more ice and makes it faster. Ice is slightly more dense and lasts longer. Relatively straightforward to install (spent less than $100 for hardware for the 1/2”ftp connections for water and drain). I’m told the 6 month maintenance is easier and doesn’t break down as fast, but haven’t experienced it yet. Cons: noticeably louder than the Scotsman when it’s on. Hoshisaki Pebble Ice has less air than Scotsman so it’s not as easy to chew, but still chewable. Note: if you order via this seller, you must confirm your address and phone again separately via amazon messaging—they won’t ship until you contact them.

We’ve owned the ice machine for a couple of years now. It produces a lot of ice quickly. The only negative thing to say about the ice machine is that it is noisy. Louder than our old Scotsman. But it produces more quickly. I have to respond to one of the negative reviews about the water pump. The water pump doesn’t cost $800, it’s $450 right here on Amazon. But I installed it myself. I can see how an installer would charge the customer $800 for the pump plus the installation. As far as Hoshizaki as a company is concerned, they are an excellent and responsive manufacture.

I was so excited to find this item on Amazon, but I am totally disappointed. First, I found out this model does not have a pump. Didn't know I needed one and the cost to get one was about $800.00. Install was $450. Besides all the expense, I find to ice to be very wet! Mainly this is due to the door missing screw to hold it in place on the upper left and the door simply does not close! I don't know what I can do at this point - return seems to be out of the question after having it installed. No not buy this item online!

I loved this machine *while it worked. Apparently there's supposed to be a magnet inset in door so that door stays closed (mine didn't come with one...). Repairman just left. Gear motor died, $1800 to replace, he said machine should be serviced by a professional EVERY THREE MONTHS(?!) Drain pump (#2) failed and water drained all underneath my island kitchen outdoors where it's installed. Can't diagnose without first fixing gear motor though....VERY EXPENSIVE PIECE OF CRAP. Trashing it and buying a portable ice maker. These things don't belong outside - especially if you live in TEXAS!

Our machine was installed March 19, 2018. Completely broke down May 6, 2020. Called service and they said its a systems problem and will cost almost the same price as purchase to repair. Contacted 2 Hoshizaki representatives and they said the warranty expired February, 2020 so they will do nothing to help. Go buy a new one. Totally disappointed all around.

The machine puts out ice very quickly. We love the size of the sonic ice. We installed it easily.
