The horror, the atrocities against humanity, the sorrow, the despair, the loss, and finally, the hope.....it’s all there in this book, told by a Holocaust survivor. This was required reading for my granddaughter in high school history, and I decided to read it as well. Well-written, enthralling, disgusting in places, so real, yet so horrible, was the treatment of the Jews in Poland. Filled with hope for the future near the end, but also full of so much hate, sorrow and loss in the heart of the book, Mrs. Schreiber-Weitz weaves this heart-wrenching story with a compelling need to get it off her chest. So glad it was required reading for my granddaughter. So glad Sonia “promised to tell!”

I love this book. As a history fan of just about anything, being able to read a firsthand experience of the Holocaust was phenomenal!! She is such a great writer and really makes you feel the bad and the sorrow and everything associated with how she felt having to go through it all as a younger child. Definitely a must read for anyone interested in this period of time!

This was a really good book. The Halocaust has so many stories that are mind boggling. Sonia Weitz is a wonderful poet. This book was haunting, I still think about it often after reading it a week ago. I would recommend this book to anyone.

I had the opportunity to meet Ms. Weitz while I was in high school and purchased an autographed copy of her book. A student of mine borrowed the book, but never returned it, prompting me to purchase it again. Another student kept this second copy; but I will happily purchase a third as this is an incredible memoir with beautiful poetry from a truly beautiful and remarkable individual.

I have read many stories/ books about the Holocaust and this one was different. As the author had to rely on her memories she brought you into relieving this dark time in our history. What was amazing were the poems she included in the book. I usually do not read poetry but these were beautiful and an important part of the story as she used this form of writting to share hetmemories and feelings.

I bought this for my daughter to read this summer and read it myself first. What an incredibly moving story! Beautiful poetry, vivid descriptions of the sadness and horror that she went through, yet extremely moving and inspiring. A very quick book to read as well.

For an introductory book for young people, this is a very good book. For a person that has done much reading on the Holocaust, I found it too general. For example, what was the details of the sewing work group? No real specifics were ever given. The poems are very good and the best part of the book for me.

Every women needs to read this book. Sonia is right in sending it to us. It's extremely sad, but helps us understand life and its terrible problems during World War II. I don't know how they got through it all. So glad that she was finally able to come to the USA, meet a wonderful man, married him, and was finally happy.
