This is a sweet story with beautiful illustrations, though it may pull at your heartstrings a bit too much, so keep the tissues near. I read this a week after putting down my vigilant protector, Nina, far too early. The book focuses on traditional things dogs do and don't like (treats, shoes, baths, tricks), so there are parts that will be easy to relate to your own pooch while others miss the mark (i.e. Nina didn't like baths, while Blaine does; Nina loved all treats, Blaine is more picky). It's still a quick, about twenty minutes, and comforting read, and I think I'd recommend it to anyone dealing with the recent loss of a beloved dog. It's so easy to be wrapped up in the "what if's" and the guilt, but this book reminds us that all a dog wants to do is love us and make us happy. They love us at our best, and our worst. And they wouldn't want the adventures to stop, the happiness to end. It's sweet, touching, moving, comforting, and sometimes it's nice to suspend belief just enough to imagine that the message is coming from your companion, nudging you forward to heal or giving you hope that one day you'll be prepared for another adventure that'll end in the same heartbreak. Because it's beautiful, because it's worth it, because they're always by our side.

I read A dogs purpose about 4 years ago and it really helped me see loosing dogs in a new perspective. Now I have lost my best dog, because all dogs are my best dogs. I found this book just in time. This has been the hardest loss ever. He was the best dog I’ve ever had and the smartest dog I have ever had. We just picked up his ashes and the lady said, I’m so sorry and that’s all it took again for me to sit in the car, sobbing my eyes out until I could drive. The illustrations are so good. Thanks

I have written a few dog books in my day. At the end of 2023 I had published 34 books and 28 of them were about dogs (though The Dog Master, my novel about the very first wolf to be domesticated, is arguably not about dogs at all). I’ve got three novels about dogs coming out in 2024. So I’ve had a lot of experience with dog book readers, and many of them have said—some with tears in their eyes—that my books helped them get over the loss of a canine companion. Yet I never felt sure that if someone was grieving from their dog’s passing that handing them a copy of A Dog’s Purpose would make them feel better. Cathryn Michon was my writing partner on the screenplay for A Dog’s Purpose, so she’s intimately aware of the story. She has always felt such deep sympathy for people whose dogs have passed that when comments are posted in social media, she’s compelled to write words of comfort. This has given her a unique perspective on what people are going through, and it shows up in this book, I’m Still Here: A Dog’s Purpose Forever. Because even more so than in A Dog’s Purpose, the message in I’m Still Here: A Dog’s Purpose Forever is that true love never dies, and it’s possible for the ones we love to be both over the rainbow bridge and also back here in the world with us, a presence watching over us and loving us the way only a dog can. You know that bond. In I’m Still Here: A Dog’s Purpose Forever, it’s described this way: “We belonged to each other, we both knew it, we’ll always know it.” Yes, that’s it, that immediate sense that this is the right dog for me. We love them so fiercely that toward the end, it’s almost too much to bear, but Michon eases our pain by guiding our dog narrator to explain that helping our pets cross over is one of the best gifts we provide for our companions. So this is it, the book I know will help people feel better about their dog’s passing. That when they leave us, our dogs are thinking: “You loved us perfectly in every way. Thank you.” That, and, as Michon assures us, their final hope is that we’ll find another dog. Because we need that love. We need that soul-healing, dedicated love. And when that need is most acute, we should take comfort in what our dogs are trying to tell us: I’m Still Here. As I wrote on the back of this wonderful book: “This is not a book about grief, this is a book about a return to joy. Who better to explain the eternal nature of our souls and the love between them then one very wise dog who loves you and is watching over you, eagerly waiting until you meet again? I'm Still Here: A Dog's Purpose Forever is a brilliant, healing, happy book.”

This was a very quick purchase for me. If I’m being honest, it was the price that struck me first. $9.99 for a hardcover book and somewhere quickly, I saw W Bruce Cameron’s name attached to the book. If you’re a dog lover, you know this name well. I’ve since learned it was written by his wife. It’s a very quick read- like reading a children’s book, but the message is such a heartfelt one. I recently lost my first dog as an adult. He was almost 16 years old. The book is beautifully illustrated with watercolor paintings of all kinds of dogs not just the one narrating the story. The paper is that thick artsy, kind that absorbs the color and just feel good and special with each page turn. I will read this book again and add my boys name to the inside front cover and pass along to friends and family when they lose a beloved four-legged friend.

Such a beautifully written, poignant tale about the unbreakable, sacred love between a dog and their human. I am saying goodbye to my soul mate tomorrow and this book spoke to my soul. I know I will come back to it again and again

As someone who recently experienced the loss of my beloved dog, I found comfort, smiles and connection in its pages. It's a must-read for anyone navigating the complex emotions of grief, offering a gentle reminder that joy and love can still be found and that healing is a journey, not a destination.
