Look no more and just buy this one! As a musician, you'll definitely want this one! It's perfect to bring to any rehearsal, while seated or standing or while inside or outside (sturdy on grass or with wind!). The quality is great - this stand is really durable and feels so sturdy! There's nothing more frustrating than using a cheap stand that can't keep it's height because the clasps/screws aren't tight enough; or is too flimsy to annotate your music because you're concerned the stand isn't strong enough. It's functional and also looks great! It's not shiny and instead has a matte finish. Another good thing to note is that the stand stays as one piece and is very compact. You can't dissemble it it, or lose any parts, which is great. If you try to fully extend the stand to its max height, there's a stopper in the stand that will prevent the pieces from coming apart. Compared to some of the classic inexpensive metal stands, you have to be careful when fully extending it because the pieces will actually come apart. I grew up using this stand and was SO excited to find it on Amazon! Definitely worth it to buy this stand!

A really great music stand! I borrowed one of these from a friend and had to have one of my own after using it for a short while. This stand strikes the perfect balance between sturdiness and portability. Can hold several heavy music books, although I mostly use it with my iPad Pro. It weighs nearly 3.5 lbs so it’s no lightweight stand, folds down to approximately 19x2x3 so stows easily, just about anywhere. I keep mine in the car so I’ll always have one on hand for jam nights. I’ll probably get another to keep around the house as well. This is a pretty expensive stand but totally worth it if you’ve gone through several cheap stands.

Normally I wait until I have a product for awhile before a review, but I like this stand so much that I feel ok doing a review now. I got this stand because one group, that I play in, has all of their music in binders. Smaller collapsible stands simply are not strong enough. This K&M stand is made in Germany and is very strong. All parts fit well and no assembly or disassembly is required. The only problem I had was in setting up the top section that holds the music. As noted in other reviews, you have to read the directions first and follow them very carefully. Personally, I thought the directions were a little skimpy, but my mechanical aptitude is not the highest either. The top section support long pieces must be turned up vertically and be above the the center wide piece. The shorter vertical sections must be pointed down. Only then can you start to unfold the top section. Note that this step is quite different from any other folding stand. Take your time and learn how to set up the stand and practice a few times. Don't wait until 5 minutes before you start your gig. I will continue to use my lighter stands, but not for heavy music books, binders, etc..Shipping and packaging were fine. I also bought the bag which is just okay. Note that there are cheaper stands that look very similar to the K&M. You get what you pay for and the bolts in the knobs are made from pot metal. My favorite stand is a Manhasset. I use them at home and if they are available at gig locations. They are a pain to lug around though so a good collapsible stand is a good investment and convenience.

But after about 7 months of weekly practices/gigs it's become annoying, mostly because I can't tighten the desk's swivel enough to keep it at the angle I want (just a bit off upright). Also the two sides of the desk's ledge are no long are flat when unfolded, regardless of how I fiddle with the hinged pieces of the desk. If I could fix the swivel problem I could deal with the non-flat ledge though. I use a 1" binder or a 3/4" binder on it; the 1" binder just fits so it won't work for something larger. And since the swivel won't secure, I wouldn't put anything very heavy on the desk. If the swivel would hold, the rest of the stand is quite sturdy and would hold a larger book. It's very convenient, folds up fast, fits well in the included bag. I have two ukulele hangers on the shaft which works great and is so handy - no tripping over floor stands!

I bought this as a gift for my father, and he absolutely loves it. We were visiting a family member who had this stand and my father couldn't stop commenting on it. He loves that it folds up so small into pieces, but is still so sturdy. The shelf is substantial enough for a book, but still works well with sheet music. Very nice stand, and I'm glad I could track it down on Amazon.

I bought this stand almost exactly 2 years ago, and I’ve taken it to gigs or practices 1-3 times a week. As others have noted, it’s not intuitive how to open it up but after you learn, it’s a great stand. The tightening screws are good enough to keep it from telescoping in. I’ve had reasonably heavy books, like The Fiddler’s Fakebook plus a couple of other lighter books on it and it’s never collapsed on me. Well, maybe once or twice when I didn’t tighten up the screws well enough. My fault. I got a VidPro TC-22 tripod/scope bag to carry it in, and it holds the stand, my music glasses, String Swing violin holder that clamps on the shelf of the music stand, plus a Fender folding guitar stand. And room for more. Nowhere near as good as your standard Manhasset music stand, but it’s a lot more portable and get the job done.

Clumsy to open - not intuitive and you can bend things if you do not open it correctly. Does not have a good system for holding pages on the stand.the Hercules model works better for me. I am a big fan of some the K&M guitar stands, but not this music stand

It may not make you an instant virtuoso, but your performance will not be distracted by any worries about flimsier music stands giving up on you in the middle of the show. When my niece needed a music stand for her singing lessons, instead of getting a cheap one, we decided to go for quality. It is a bit heavier than cheaper ones, but that also translates into solidity. As it needs to withstand repeated and at least weekly folding and unfolding, I'd not trust a cheap one to last long. At present, it has lasted just over a year. And that is despite falling over a few times, being dropped, and someone trying to unfold it in the wrong way – at least a few times before she got how it worked. When it comes to the latter, it is actually possible – at least to try – to start unfolding it the wrong way. One has to make sure the parts making up the actual music stand bit are in the right position so that it unfolds easily. If there is resistance, one is doing it wrong. A lot of force would be needed to actually twist it so much it breaks. I'm not sure it's even possible, for it is very strongly constructed. A flimsier stand would be twisted easily and even broken if done the wrong way. Of course it would have been preferable if it wasn't possible to try opening it the wrong way at all. I guess that's the only negative I can think of when it comes to this, but I don't think it's enough to deduct a star in my rating. One simply has to learn how to do it, and once that is over and done with, it should give you a lifetime of worry-free sheet music support.
