I snagged the Kasa Smart KP125P2 Plug Mini for one main reason: it plays nice with both my Sense Energy Monitor and Home Assistant. I mean, what’s better than a smart plug that not only follows orders but also feeds you detailed energy data so you can feel like the king of your own smart-home empire? Spoiler alert: nothing. Setting it up was a breeze, and I immediately got it linked with my Sense monitor. Watching my devices report real-time energy usage feels like getting backstage passes to my own electricity habits. It’s weirdly satisfying to see exactly how much juice my gadgets are drinking. Pairing it with Home Assistant was just as smooth—now I’ve got custom automations that make me feel like I’m living in a sci-fi movie. Lights, appliances, you name it—it’s all synced up and under control. The best part? It just works. No random disconnects or firmware tantrums, just reliable, steady performance. This plug isn’t flashy, but it’s dependable, functional, and smart enough to make me feel like I’ve leveled up in home automation. Honestly, if you’re a data geek like me, this thing is the MVP of smart plugs.

I have a lot of wifi enabled smart plugs, these are my favorite. smaller form factor than most, barely larger than the plug itself. simple setup, and they've been consistent and work well.

Bought the KP125 to compare with EP25. EP25 does not work with Sense or Home Assistant. KP125 does. EP25 has much nicer energy monitoring interface in the Kasa app. However, my primary requirement is integration with Sense and Home Assistant so I do not need detail in the Kasa app. Sense and HA have those details. KP125 also does not have the numerous options in the Device Settings. The Default State (after power outage) option is critical for my use as I want these to return to last state. Both KP125 and EP25 restore to last power state after a power outage but the EP25 provides configurable options. EP25 can be setup via bluetooth as well which is easier than wifi connect (to switch), disconnect (from switch), connect method (to home router). Did not go for Matter or Thread options. Just wanted energy monitoring smart wifi outlets to work with Sense and Home Assistant without any coding or waiting for a new integration. Make sure you read up on Matter and lack of energy monitoring support before purchasing the "M" model.

For years, I’ve been using either mechanical or digital timers to turn my lamp on and off at programmed times. They’ve always been difficult to program, use, and adjust for daylight saving time. They’ve always gained or lost time, and I’d have to reset the clock in them. This smart plug is a dream. It eliminates all those problems. Also, with my Amazon Echo, which it integrates with, I just tell Alexa to turn the lamp on or off when I want to override the program. If you don’t have an Echo, no problem: just use the app. Programming is easy. I should have bought this when it first came out.

update: 2 weeks later im extremely disappointed with this product, it worked so well for the first couple of days and now consistently appears as “no response” in homekit every couple of hours (despite it still working in the kasa app) and resolves when i unplug and plug it back in but is very frustrating when the main reason i bought this was for automations and ease of use. even worse, i tried resetting the plug to see if it would help but now it wont connect to wifi at all. i will be returning and if you are an apple homekit user i highly recommend switching to a thread enabled device as it is much more reliable and you wont experience the same difficulties as you would with wifi devices. original review: i have used kasa products for quite some time now, they work so well and are very reliable. i used to have an amazon alexa but switched to apple homepod and have been looking for new accessories that support homekit and was delighted to see kasa now offers homekit compatible accessories! this smart plug works flawlessly and i am using it for my humidifier. 10/10 recommend!!!
