· 2-IN-1 DETECTION: Alerts you to both smoke & carbon monoxide (CO) using a single, cost-effective device. · HARDWIRED & 10-YEAR BATTERY BACKUP: Operates on 120V AC wiring (installed in the ceiling). No battery changes for 10 years & saves up to $40 over the life of the detector. · ENHANCED SENSING TECHNOLOGY: Reduces false smoke alarms often caused by cooking. Comprehensively tested to meet the latest UL standards, meets UL 217 9th Edition, UL 2034 4th Edition, & FCC standards. · VOICE ALERTS: Crystal-clear voice alerts will say "Fire!" when smoke is detected or "Warning! Carbon Monoxide!" if CO is detected, so you can react quickly. · INTERCONNECT CAPABILITY: When one alarm sounds, they all sound, so you can get out faster. (Different models offer different interconnection options and requirements. See User Guide for more info.) · SELF-TESTING ALARM: Internal components ensure alarm is always operating as expected. Not a substitute for a manual push test, perform a button test once per week to verify alarm operation. · 3 LED NOTIFICATIONS: LED lights indicate alarm status, green = normal operation, amber = operating error, red = smoke or carbon monoxide detected & a loud 85-decibel alarm will sound. · 10-YEAR WARRANTY: Begins when alarm is powered on. If that date is unknown, it should be assumed that alarms should be replaced. (10-yr limited warranty on alarm, not a battery performance claim.)

Easy installation and setup. Found out that you can rotate them after they’re installed to align the flat sides with walls - if you’re picky / ocd like I apparently am - so you don’t have to worry about the exact orientation of the mounting bracket.

I replaced 10-year-old smoke detectors with these. The old ones were chirping due to age. These have the extra wire for interconnection just like my old units. I could not use the existing plug-in connector the way it was. However, wiring in the new plug-in connector was quite easy. I like the fact that these new alarms in addition to sounding the extremely loud alarm, it verbally announces if the alarm is due to fire or carbon monoxide. The interconnection works well with all 6 detectors that I installed. Alarms are created at all six. Now if the 10-year battery lasts 9 to 10 years, I'll be extremely happy since that means I will save getting the ladder out (9Ft) ceilings) and changing the batteries twice a year.

This are really nice and love the voice commands so I actually know why it's beeping. I also LOVE that I won't have to wake up at 3am to replace a battery in the middle of the night, since that's when they always seem to go off. Will have to wait and see if they really last 10 years but I am looking forward to it. Voice commands are clear. Even the electrician I hired to replace all of my smoke detectors was very impressed with this and said they were really good quality.

What I can't evaluate is how well these work since we haven't set anything afire since I put these up. And I'd prefer to keep it that way. Was replacing our should-have-been-replaced-long-ago original smoke detectors and got 2 of these--one for the basement and one for upstairs. The voice feature seems to be a gimmick until you realize if the alarm does go off, the voice announcement will make it much easier to know if you have a fire or a CO alarm. The detectors I was replacing were Firex with a different quick-connect. There are adapters available and I did use those. Unfortunately, those adapters were made to go vertically into the back of the detector, and on these particular ones the connector kind of nestles in horizontally. However... a few snips to remove some excess plastic and the connectors worked fine. The other 5 detectors I replaced were Kidde smoke (not CO) detectors. When pressing the test button on those, these detectors would also go off and announce "fire!". So interoperability within the Kidde family seems to work fine. Yay! Note that these have a permanent 10-year battery and at the end of 10 years (apparently which is tracked via a timer?) the alarm will start going off at 30 second intervals, requiring you to remove it and permanently disable it to drain the battery and shut it up. Again, having had these up for days, not 10 years, I can't say for sure exactly how that works. And most detectors these days, even some with replacable batteries, apparently will similarly self-expire after 10 years. To be fair that may be good: when I replaced the ~20 year old detectors, some would barely beep when tested, and a few had batteries that apparently had expired without any notification to us. (All had had batteries replaced some multiple times over their lifetime though.)
