It does the job as expected. I used to do a lot of baking, and was without a kitchen for a couple of years. I knew I couldn't knead bread because of my arthritic hands, but I really missed the light honey rye hearth loaves that used to be a major part of my diet. A neighbor told me to get a KitchenAid, so I found a used Ultra Power K45, and ordered this dough hook. Wow! I no longer have to gulp ibuprofen! Now I wish I'd gotten the Artisan model, which is about 10% bigger, and 20% more powerful. I don't suppose medicare will consider this as durable medical equipment... Added note: I received the dough hook on November 25. Today, January 22, the dough hook broke. It appears that the casting crystallized, and after some use, it just snapped. From my schooling in Chemical Engineering, I know that crystallized castings are fairly common if the metal has impurities or is cooled too quickly, and it's not always prevented by best practices. I called Kitchenaid customer Service, and they said they'd be shipping a replacement, no proof of when I purchased it required, and no need to return the broken piece. Wow! He indicated that if purchased directly from KitchenAid, the price would by $14.99 plus $2 shipping; I paid $11.49 for it, and the current pricer is $14.68, with free Prime shipping. (Mine was from Dynamic Deals, and current vendor is Todays Concept.) I *still* wish I'd gotten an Artisan, but if the Ultra Power has enough power to do this, I have considerably less regret. KitchenAid is the same company that makes those commercial Hobart floor-model mixers. I used to have one, purchased at an auction, but I don't have enough room in my one-bedroom apartrment. It's bad enough that I can't slide my Kitchenaid mixer to the back of the counter, nut it won't fit under the cabinets.

My nearly 15 year old dough hook got a chip in the enamel coating, and this replacement worked perfectly! I make a lot of bread for my family, so we're happy to have a quick and easy replacement :)

I'm happy that this works with my K45SS KitchenAid stand mixer, 4.5 qts, tilt-head. I've made several yeast-dough breads, and this both mixed the ingredients and kneads it. It's easy to clean. It's too bad that the coating can chip off, so I'm trying to be very careful with this hook so the coating will hopefully last well.

I wanted to get the Kitchen Aid brand replacement dough hook and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't over-priced. Never do knock-offs when I can get the real thing. Mine was 30 years old and not a thing wrong with it until I dropped it on the tile floor and it took a big gouge in the paint that wasn't safe to use unless we wanted paint chips in our food :)

I got this forever ago and just finally got around to using it. The attachment fits easily onto the mixer and is easy to clean. It saves me from having to knead dough and makes the process a lot of time.

I had bought this because I had lost the original one it came with. I didn’t really get to make any dough using the kitchen aid in general because I never make dough, but as I got more into baking I decided to buy the DOUGH HOOK and experiment. Quick side note, my family from my Dad’s side owns a bakery in Mexico where they make bread so You could say I got inspired lol, Soooo, so far the dough I have made have turned out good with the exception of the last, the last seemed to be pretty thick and tacky and I feel like my kitchen Aid was close to burning out (T_T). I do admit that I might had too much dough in there so I took half out but the Kitchen Aid was still struggling and getting hot so I Decided to take out the dough and finish kneading it by hand. An annoying thing occurrence was that even after taking out some dough, the dough kept climbing up passing that hook attachment and getting stuck on the spring and smearing everywhere 。゚(゚'ω`゚)゚。. But overall it gets the job done when you know what you’re doing.

I'd like to start by saying that I am a novice bread maker, and I have been using my mother-in-law's Kitchenaid K45SS to make my dough. She only had the paddle attachment and the whisk attachment, and I thought I could get away with those two. When I found this dough hook here on Amazon for HALF the price of the ones in the stores, I had to buy it just to see what all the fuss was about. This dough hook is a game changer. It does all the work for you. It pulls the dry mix from the sides of the bowl and kneads it with the wet dough in the middle. When I was using the paddle attachment for this, the dough would creep up the attachment, and I would have to peel it off and start over a few times during my kneading cycle. With the dough hook, I do not have to do this. My one piece of advice: Be sure you know what model number is on your Kitchenaid mixer! There are several versions of this dough hook, and if you get the wrong one, it will not work. Also, make sure that you have the right size for your bowl. My bowl is a five quart bowl. Some mixers come with a three quart bowl.

The aluminum hook that comes with Kitchenaid mixers works great until someone forgets and puts it in the dishwasher. From then on it is an endless battle to get rid of the black sooty oxidation and keep it off your bread dough. I got this replacement because I’m tired of fighting my soiled stock dough hook. This hook works every bit as good as the original that came with the mixer and I can throw it in the dish washer worry free. I have used it several times now and have no complaints.
