use the Ring Chime solely as a Wi-Fi extender for my outdoor Ring camera, and it works perfectly. Setup was simple, and the connection has been solid ever since. My camera had spotty signal before, but now the video loads faster and more reliably. Definitely worth it if your camera is far from your router!

Our old one broke awhile ago, and hubby ordered this one. Setup in a matter of minutes and works like it should.

My router is centrally-located and I needed chimes at both ends of my home as well as the Chime Pro network signal extended. I bought one unit to try out and then another a week later. The second Chime Pro arrived in a much larger product box. After installation, I verified that the firmware of each unit is up to date. However, I noticed that my doorbell and cameras seemed to prefer staying connected to the first Chime Pro. I unplugged the first Chime Pro to force the units to connect to the second, but whenever I unplugged and re-plugged cameras, they tended to reconnect to the first. I also tried moving the Chime Pro units around and discovered that the second unit failed to automatically reconnect to my router. At first, I thought that I had inadvertantly pressed the side button when I plugged it back in. A couple of days ago, our neighborhood lost power and when it came back, I discovered that the second Chime Pro restarted in Setup mode and was unable to reconnect. I requested a replacement of the second unit from Amazon and received another unit packaged in the smaller box. After setting it up the new chime, I noticed that some camera units reconnected to the new unit as it was closer and had a stronger signal. However, after a short period of time, I noticed that one of the cameras (Indoor Cam, 2nd Gen) reverted to the first Chime Pro which was more distant and had a weaker signal. When I tried to reconnect each camera to the Chime Pro network, another camera would reconnect to the distant and weaker Chime Pro. I rebooted all of the cameras and they reconnected to the closest Chime Pro with the stronger signal and the connections have been stable since. The signal strength of all clients are much stronger overall with the addition of the newest Chime Pro compared to with the second unit. I also cycled the power to the new chime and confirmed that it automatically reconnects to my router, same as the first unit. I can only guess that the second Chime Pro in the larger box is an older unit. Whether all of the Chime Pro units are on the same firmware revision is unknown since the software does not display firmware version numbers. Each unit may have been on the latest version supported by that particular model, but a different version than the other. I cannot tell any other physical differences between the units. The MAC ID prefixes of all three units are different, possibly indicating different network hardware inside. The behavior after power loss and restoration is definitely unacceptable as the cameras would have been disabled until I return home and re-run setup.

While I don't have any overt complaints about this item, I prefer the gen 1 ring chime. it's louder when needed. the night light is good though, that's worth the 5th star.

We've recently had some trouble in the alley behind our store. Cars broken in to and some buildings so we added a couple of cameras in back. Problem was it didn't get a good signal so they wouldn't work. Customer service suggested getting one of these. I was so happy once the cameras came back online!! I don't need the chime but desperately needed the signal boost. It was easy to set up and connect everything. Very much appreciated!!!!

This was fairly easy to setup. The app guides you through all the steps. It connected easily to my WiFi network, and though the range is not quite what I was hoping for, it is an improvement for my furthest cameras. I didn’t buy this for the chime, just for the range extension. It plugs into an outlet, looks nice, and has a nightlife feature which you can disable as well as disabling any chime effects. I placed it approx 25ft from my WiFi router but upstairs (router is downstairs) and it showed decent wifi reception (missing one bar) but it improved my furthest cameras connection from an RSSI-62 to RSSI-56 which isn’t that much but it’s markedly better. The way fit works is it broadcasts its own “network” and you can add devices to use that network instead of directly trying to connect to your WiFi router. I would say 20/20ft would be a good range of coverage for max signals through a couple of standard household walls. Meaning if your camera or device is 40ft away put this at the halfway point and you should be good. Anything further or through brick outer walls or garage doors will hamper any signal but my furthest is through a brick wall and I still saw an improvement. Kind pricey for the short range but I didn’t want to mess with an upgraded pass through router or mesh network.
