It's hard to believe this singer--at 23!--actually exists, really. Her voice: about equal parts honey, vanilla and chocolate, with a great range (from soprano down to contralto) and smooth all the way. Based on my knowledge of opera singers, it seems to me that Ms. Joy sings "on the breath", not "with the breath". Great breath control, plus great diction. (Again, hard to believe Ms. Joy actually exists.) And then, a jazz stylist to match all the foregoing. I am stunned. Is she really only 23? Stylizes like an experienced 43-year-old jazz singer might. I love her diction (impeccable) and I love her range and smoothness and her discreet vibrato. Seems to me, a jazz singer like this comes along maybe once a century, if that. Hats off, as well, to her sidemen and to the recording engineers. (I'm an audiophile and greatly appreciate excellence in recording.) You'd better get this, "while supplies last".

To a very great degree this album reminds me of Diana Krall's "Only Trust Your Heart". After a 1st listening session, I would say my only critique is that the double bass is too low in the mix. That bass line gives the contrast to the vocal and makes it shine. It says something about Samara Joy's vocals that they can't be diminished by a too-low bass line. From the first line of lyrics, you can tell you are dealing with something special when it comes to the human voice as an instrument.
This is where having a small Jazz set-up as far as instruments pays off. Most of the songs feature only 3 instruments: piano/guitar, double bass and drums. It is wonderful to experience her voice without too much background eating away at what I would call a stunning clarity.
Overall this album has a "late night in a small Jazz club" feel to it... and that is just right.

Can’t stop listening to this record. The tone of her voice is perfectly unique. I love how chill the feel is with fun songs sprinkled throughout. She sings as if she’s at peace even in the songs about loss or longing, it feels so real and grounding. Product came perfect.

Some old standards with creative interpretations, some new pieces, all performed beautifully. Reminds me of Cecile McLorin Salvant. In fact I'd love an LP of duets by them!

Disappointed in this- had potential but every track has been given the same treatment and tends to sounds the same! Great voice though.
