This is an archival live album by the iconic Rock band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, considered as one of the most important and pivotal Rock groups of all time. The group combined four young (at the time) Rock stars: the hippie dreamer David Crosby, the folksy / bluesy Stephen Stills, the elegant, intellectual and romantic Brit Graham Nash and the tough rocker Neil Young, all four blessed with extraordinary voices and sublime songwriting talents. This unique combination of musical personalities already tested and perfected within the Crosby, Stills & Nash framework was simply matchless by any contemporary Rock group at the time. This album, recorded on September 20, 1969, before the debut album by the band was released, finds them in the light of the instant fame and glory, due to their stellar Woodstock Festival appearance a month earlier. The previously unreleased material presents seventeen tracks, which follows their show pattern of acoustic set (eleven tracks) and electric set (six tracks), where the quartet is assisted by bassist Greg Reeves and drummer Dallas Taylor. The obvious comparison between this recording and the Woodstock performance shows how much progress these musicians made in just one month, perfecting the vocal harmonies and getting the show together. Playing the Woodstock and these Fillmore versions opposite each other is a schoolbook exercise, for the very patient music enthusiasts, and a great fun. Although this album does not offer anything previously unheard, it is as perfect as any fan of CSN&Y could ask for, with impeccable performances and absolutely stunning sound quality and clarity. As such, it expands the historical document of the era (late 1969), when music making was at the epicenter of the cultural platform and before everything turned sour. Overall, this is an incredible find, which for people who had been lucky to experience this music in real time is absolutely priceless. If there is Godly Rock music, this is it, no questions asked. Beyond essential!

It's not ironic (and yet thoroughly appropriate) that Neil, Stephen and Graham dedicated this nearly perfect snapshot of CSNY at their peak - to David Crosby (RIP), whose voice and 12 string guitar never sounded better. Guinnevere is a perfect example of Crosby's unique and exquisite claw style and open tuning approach to the acoustic 12 string guitar, and this recording rivals all others. Likewise, his strumming electric twelve-string supports Neil and Stephen's improvisations on the electric set with equally unpredictable gusto and verve. Their love lives had not yet been torn apart as of this recording (Christine Hinton's death/Joni Mitchell dumps Graham/Neil's divorce), and they sound and look so young and happy. I was never a fan of Jack Nitzsche's arrangement of "I've Loved Her So Long" from Neil's debut, but this version blew me away. "Sea Of Madness", which for decades was only available on the Woodstock soundtrack was in fact, this version. Again, one of Neil's greatest songs and perfectly executed by this eclectic blend of stylistic songwriter/musicians. At first, Graham's use of the organ for "Our House" threw me, but by the end, I loved it more because Nash's voice soared clearly above the sparse accompaniment which included very light drums (Stephen or Dallas?). There was never a better rhythm section for CSNY than Dallas Taylor and Greg Reeves IMHO. As much as I love Johnny Barbata and later Joe Vitale, Dallas and Greg gave a bouncy hippy-gypsy vibe that was holy appropriate for the song-at-hand both live and in the studio. There may be better drummers technically, but Dallas was always one of my favorites. The recording is surprisingly spectacular. If I have any complaint (which I don't), it's that the songs are cropped and omit much (if not all) of their between song banter and good natured introductions, which could be quite entertaining and funny. That aside, the music more than makes up for this small injustice. I only had to wait 55 years to hear this gem, and I thank my lucky stars that my ears and good health allowed me this supreme pleasure. Thank you Stephen, Neil and Graham (and of course David). I love you guys!

This is DEFINITELY for CSNY fans. The casual listener probably won't find this too entertaining. It was the genre for its time; the end of the '60s and psychedelia. The singer, musician & songwriter was emerging. It was a very creative time and harmony was still in "style." CSNY started a format of performance, start with acoustic and close with amplified music. This is a nice fit for those who got a taste of CSNY on the Woodstock album, then the 4 Way Street album. There performance was fresh and still experimenting with their sound; while havin' fun. I personally think both the acoustic and electric music is great. Obviously, the price is great. The LA rock scene is long gone, so most of the music you can find at a reasonable price. It will be interesting 50 years from now, if the 90s & 2000 music will be memorable? CSNY at the Fillmore '69 will be a flashback to creative, thoughtful/ political music that was just attempting to talk about making the world a better place...well the journey goes on unfortunately.

Anyone who knows the history of CSN&Y, will love their incredible harmonies, but on later recordings the harmonies were not so good as the effects of drugs, alcohol and age took there toll. Here we have the boys at the very start and man is it good! two songs stand out for me, 'Go back home' and 'Blackbird'. Both are acoustic, 'Go back home' was new to me in this format, but it works! 'Blackbird' has never been my favourite CSN&Y cover tune, but here it makes sense as the harmonies are spot on! On the electric set it's great to have a pristine version of Neil Youngs 'Sea of madness' a song I've love since I first heard it on a bootleg in the early 1970's. A great collection of songs, familiar yes, but maybe they never sounded better than on this album! If you love CSNY, buy this album!

Chiusura con la classica "Find The Cost Of Freedom".
