Quality of recording good & song selection is nice as well. I was not familiar w/this live recording until I heard it on Sirius XM. Several songs that aren’t often heard was a nice surprise & guitar work is clear & done well.

These discs are great with rarely performed tunes from Black and Blue and It's Only Rock n Roll. Worth it for the almost 8 min version of Worried About You! I waited too long to pick this one up..

"What would you do to see the Rolling Stones play live? The prize was tickets to see an unknown band called the Cockroaches." "It was just like another Sunday gig at the Crawdaddy." Bill Wyman. By now most Stones fans will know of, or have heard various tracks from these two "secret" shows from 1977 in Canada. But this is the official release of one show with three tracks from the previous night's show from the El Mocambo that weren't played at the March 5th show. Additional musicians are Ian Stewart-piano, Billy Preston-keyboards, and Ollie Brown-percussion. These shows are from a period when the Stones were really hot and on top of things musically. Disc One has songs like "Honky Tonk Women", "All Down The Line", "Route 66", "Mannish Boy", and other great tracks. Disc Two includes "Little Red Rooster", "Rip This Joint", "Brown Sugar", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", and more tunes from the band's repertoire at the time. The band was on fire musically and Jagger was just spitting out the lyrics with abandon or was a bit more subdued, depending on the song. The newly mixed sound (by Bob Clearmountain) is immediate, crisp, and smokin' sounding. The 18 page booklet has some period photos and several pages of notes about the music and the travails of the band at that time. The discs and booklet slip into full sized pockets in the tri-fold cardboard package. The cover is die-cut with the "lips" logo we've all seen. Depending on which side of the booklet you slip into the pocket, either the color pink or blue will show through the logo cutouts. This is definitely worth adding to your Stones collection. It's a great example of how good the band was back then. I still remember when the Stones played in my hometown early in their career. The Byrds were playing before the Stones, but had to keep playing because the band was late getting there. What a show. But these legendary shows from the El Mocambo have been talked about for years--everyone hoped these gigs would be officially released. It was a long wait but its been worth it. Slip this music on the player and adjust the sound up a bit--you'll hear what I mean.

As a die hard fan who’s been to over fifty live shows and listened to either official release or audience recordings of thousands of shows, this one is one of the few shows where the versions I heard were either not of good enough quality to fully enjoy, or have yet to surface (someone needs to find and release the Sir Morgan’s show in 1981!). I really enjoyed this release. The digital audio files were great to hear, but the recording came to life on vinyl. Excellent versions of Hot Stuff and Hand of Fate, both of which had some good runs in Europe during their 76 tour. The best part for me was the versions of the songs they rarely or never played. Let’s spend the Night together was played for only the second time since 1967 and despite a few lyric mishaps, was fun. Route 66 sounded like it had been in the setlist for years. Dance Little Sister had only been played twice before (I’ve only heard one of them before) and it was a cool tune that worked live. Wish they’d bring it back. My favorite might be Worried About You. This is another one that has seen some live appearances starting in 2002 but at the time of this show was still four years from being released. Now granted, Tattoo You was essentially an album of earlier outtakes, but Worried About You was ready to go at this point and sounded great at this show. I don’t think the studio version would have fit on Some Girls as that album had such a strong New York feel to it that I think this would stick out, but it could have been on Emotional Rescue for sure and really should be a staple in the live show. This release is a must have for stones fans and should get a strong look from all classic rock/Blues fans.

Stones fans are familiar with these dates at the El Mocambo by way of Love You Live (only a few tracks, that is). Here it is finally. That said, the first CD is the keeper.

As a big Stones fan, I have all their albums as well as their live albums. This one is fantastic. The Stones were on fire and hitting on all cylinders in 1977. The Stones had booked two secret shows at Toronto’s legendary, 300-capacity El Mocambo nightclub. What we get is a raw authentic performance from The World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band. Buy it!

Ok so was looking at this record for awhile and Amazon had it on sale as I saw it for as much as $150 in my local record store. All I can say is wow!!! The pressing and sound quality is first rate!!! This is the best sounding live Stones record I’ve ever heard. You feel like you’re there in a small club in 1977. The mastering by Bob Clearmountain sounds amazing with a perfect balance of lows, mids, and highs. Three dimensions which is what a great pressing should sound. The guitars weave, Charlie and Bill are locked in with Micks vocals front and center. I love Woody but my favorite Stones period is Mick Taylor, however this recording is a band on a mission to prove that they we’re still relevant in 77 with all that was going on in rock music at that time and “cough” disco! Highly recommend, I do not give reviews on vinyl unless I am really pushed to a really good or very bad pressing!

Many years ago I bought the Love you Live album by the Rolling Stones. For me the best tracks on it came from the El Mocambo show they did as a warmup for the tour. I often wondered why the full show had never been released because these tracks really have an energy that the other three sides(record) didn’t quite reach. Roll forwards years…….and here is that full show in all of its rough hewn glory. Sonically superb and blessed with an energy that makes it amongst the best of the many live albums that the Stones have released. Ollie Brown and Billy Preston really did add so much, as did the new guitar player, Ronnie Wood, a man who has been key to so many classic rock albums. If you like the Stones get this.
