Whether you are a fan of SNL, and its producer, or not, this book is an incredible cultural history of the last 60 or so years. Morrison talked to everyone one needs to talk to about how popular entertainment was channelled through SNL’s machinery. Ironically, the least interesting thing about this book is the monochromatic lead character, though Morrison is heroic in detailing SNL's “operating manual” — a step by step guide into overseeing the chaos of the creative process — that any producer, editor, creator or casual bystander would and should use. The book is 655 pages long, but considering the spelunking that must have gone into its creation, it somehow feels not long enough.
