I discovered the Red Clay Strays when YouTube added them to my feed, and I'm so happy that I gave them a chance and clicked. They do not bill themselves as a "Christian band" but rather as Christians who have a band. Even so, their faith permeates this album in subtle and overt ways. If, like me, you grew up on CCM and have become weary of the sameness of popular Christian music, this group might be what you are looking for. They have unique style that would appeal to anyone who loves southern rock, blues, rockabilly, etc. In terms of "Christian" music artists, their musical style and sound remind me at various times of NEEDTOBREATHE, Third Day, and Zach Williams-- all favorites of mine. I also at times get vibes of Chuck Berry, Elvis, and Johnny Cash on the vintage secular end. Their writing style calls to mind Jars of Clay with its deep, thoughtful, poetic lyrics that sometimes take time to absorb and translate their meaning. My teen daughters said, "I love it, but I don't always understand the lyrics!" But even that led to great discussions. Be aware: this album is not afraid to roll up its sleeves and dive deeply into the gritty emotions of the human experience. It deals with issues like depression ("Drowning"), hopelessness ("I'm Still Fine"), our desire to be valued and loved ("Wanna Be Loved"), and even suicide ("Devil in My Ear.") Though some songs have a darker, moody feel due to the content, the album has a definite trajectory that culminates in the hope and joy of realizing where we find our solution to the messes of this life: in God ("God Does.") We may not see the purpose in the mess, but He does and so we can cling to that hope and trust Him with our life.

Mica paglia.

I only really hard of the Red Clay Strays earlier this year and bought Moment of Truth which had a sun records/Buddy Holly vibe to it although contemporary. I was impressed so I bought this one. It is a louder album and for me a step forward. The lead singer has certainly moved up a notch on many of the songs with a voice that at times makes me think of Chris Stapleton. It is more of the same although with a beefed up sound. Great singing. Great songs and great picking. I think their first album was good, I think this is a step up. I am really enjoying it. Great album.
