Overall this is a great product. We used it on a Subaru Ascent during a drive from coast-to-coast across the US and it performed as well as expected. Pros: This is a very sturdy hitch mounted carrier. It allowed plenty of space for the rear hatch door on the Ascent to open even with the carrier attached and full of cargo; of course only with the carrier in the down position. It was perfect for carrying two oversized suit cases which fit exactly within the space of the carrier. There was also enough extra room for a gallon gas can and several other loose mid-sized items. Overall we carried about 250-300 lbs on the rack and it held up well and did not bend or drag near the pavement as some carriers have been seen to do. When in the folded up position the carrier was far away enough from the car that it did not risk bouncing against the back hatch of the vehicle. We also used the included black water-resistant bag and load straps which both worked extremely well; we encountered almost no rain so cannot comment on the ability of the bag to protect against water. We loaded/unloaded it every day and it held up to to frequent use without issue or wear-and-tear. The fold up feature is great when parking in tighter areas but often we would back into a parking space so the carrier would just hang over the curb/grass. Cons: As noted in other reviews, the painting is not uniform and it started showing rust at the weld joints almost immediately after we visited the beach. The rust is a minor annoyance and does not impact the overall functionality of the product. The other issue raised in several reviews is that some of the drill holes do no align perfectly and required filing or extra work in adjusting. For example the drill holes for the locking bolt were perfect when the carrier was in the down position. However, the drill holes for the same locking bolt were not properly aligned when the carrier was folded in the up position. Therefore I had to file the hole a bit and then carry a hammer with me to help bang the locking pin into place anytime I moved the carrier into the folded up position. I eventually became quite good at finding the sweet spot for the locking pin and getting in banged into place in seconds but the first time took me about 20 minutes to find the right alignment. Some other considerations: We purchased a removable taillight lighting kit to provide taillights in the event the cargo covered the vehicle’s taillights on the car. The lights in the kit were magnetic and therefore stuck to the steel carrier without difficultly. In the end the cargo was not high enough to block the vehicle’s regular taillights but we used the light kit as an added precaution. Also the carrier blocked our back-up sensors on our car and set off the back-up alarm every time the car was put into reverse. It would also engage the automatic emergency braking sensor when backing up. Both systems can be turned off on our car so it was not much of an issue but something to consider and to check with each vehicles in order to make sure it will not be a problem. The back-up camera was only partially blocked by the carrier and was fine. Assembly/Installation: Assembly was extremely easy and took about 30 minutes. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. (Remember to remove all the plastic shipping wrap before installation. We forgot and left some of the plastic wrap on and found that it got stuck between some of the parts.) It can be assembled by one person but having a second person to hold some of the nuts or bolts during tightening can be helpful. The finished assembly goes into a standard 2 inch receiver. It weighs about 70 lbs finished and although inserting the finished carriage into the receiver can be done with one person, again it is a bit easier with two. Folding the carrier up is very easy for one person but the misaligned drill holes did pose a minor challenge each time to lock it into place. We loved the added space this carrier provided and found in invaluable during the trip. We frequently commented during the drive that this was one of the best decisions we made in preparation and that it paid for itself many times over. Would highly recommend.

We used this carrier with waterproof bag on a 3000 mile trip to northern Ontario and back including a four hour drive through the dirty side of hurricane Debby with no issues. When we got to our destination in northern Ontario there wasn’t a drop of water in the bag and everything was dry and intact. The carrier itself was very sturdy and easy to assemble and attach to the Bronco. We left it on the truck the whole time we were away and folded it up when there wasn’t anything in it. I highly recommend this carrier with waterproof bag. It includes all the straps and tie downs you need including a webbing to use when you don’t need to use the bag. Well worth the money.

Awesome product. Better than I expected. By far the best deal on many many of these I looked at prior to purchase. This unit comes with the hitch, frame, cage, etc. The sides on the "cage" are about 6" high. The bag that comes with it is very heavy duty and pretty big (60" x 18" x 24" or so) and has six built in straps to tie it down. And the package comes with four extra ratchet straps and a big cargo bungee unit as well. What a deal. We put tons of stuff in the bag which zips and velcro's closed....three suit cases and 4-5 big bags of Christmas gifts on a trip to FLA with 5 passengers and big dog in our Yukon. Always so crowded in the car before. Not this time. If you have basic assembly skills you can put this together. I saw many other units about the same price, but did not come with the bag and the straps and the bungee net, etc. The bag itself is worth $60-80 on other units. Put about 2200 miles on it, in all types of weather (including rain). No leakage, no problems. Awesome bag and unit. It does fold up when empty so you can drive with it not sticking out 3'. It does stick pretty far out the back of vehicle, but good news is my Yukon liftgate still opens even with bag full and secured in place. Never ever noticed or heard it back there on any leg of the trips. No wind rattle or sway (but I am in a big Yukon) Highly recommend this unit. I saw a few negative comments about rust and such....did not experience/see any of that on mine. I expect it will last at least minim 5 years are probably 10. Even if it didn't I would happily spend the $140 for this unit every couple or three years and still love it.

This worked really well on my Jaguar F-Pace, it mounts far enough back that the trunk can be opened and folds up when not in use. The bag is heavy duty and kept out any dirt and rain during a 4 day road trip. Using this I can keep the dogs in the car and most of the luggage on the rack. It was a good buy.

Solidly built and easy to assemble. Everything including the lockable pin, bag and other accessories seems very well built as well. Going to road test it soon and will update this review if anything should fail. I have used this carrying 200# +/- a sizable distance over the last few months. Definitely has some bounce to it when hitting low or high spots in the road, but performed well. Just be aware of the bounce. I ended up adding some magnetic lights as a larger load will block your brake/ turn lights and the carrier blended in with the black trim on my subi when viewing from the back. It should also be noted that when tightening down the straps on the cover, one of the plastic pieces broke, so I would definitely use some metal ratchet straps in conjunction to secure the load on the carrier. Still a good 4 to 4.5 stars

Used for camping trip recently in Ford maverick. The carrier is super sturdy and rides quietly. Size was phenomenal. Held our tents, camping chairs, cots and bedding with room to spare. The zipper is strong and velcro on sides make it dirt and water tight. The directions were a little tough to translate but can figure it out. Have plenty of room between tailgate and bag to open and close as needed. Best purchase in a long time.

It worked well on my three hour journey. Carried good amount, gave me more space in the vehicle. The bag did well in the rain. Only thing I could say is that I could feel the weight on the back at times when swerving. Other than that. Excellent.

This has been unavailable for a few months. I waited because I wanted this specific carrier (with all of these accessories). When it finally came back in stock I ordered and it did not disappoint! We have gone on several short trips with this carrier and it has been a life saver! Would definitely recommend this!!!

I purchased this unit because I couldn't tow a trailer. It has allowed me to move things out of the car. That can take weather.

I've used this hitch basket for a year now. If you are in the marked for one of these, this product will not disappoint. The added cargo net is fantastic. I don't use the provided straps. Instead we used rachet straps. The waterproof cargo bag fits perfectly and you can store a lot. Suitcases, golf clubs, blankets and pillows. Great value and reliable.
