· Network Broadcast: The system is designed to work with your existing Gigabit Ethernet network, allowing you to extend the HDMI signal to any part of your home. Simply add a decoder at the remote location to view the source video. This gives a virtually unlimited number of extensions. · Supports Full HD: In addition to support for Full HD (1080p) video, this extendersupports video resolutions up to 1900x1200@60Hz with the YCbCr 4:4:4 color space. · Video Compression: When transmitted over a network, Full HD uncompressed video canbog down the network. H.265 real time video compression reduces the bandwidth required for Full HD video, ensuring that it doesn't negatively impact network performance. · 492 Foot Transmission Distance: This system extends Full HD HDMI video to distances up to 492feet (150 meters) over a single Cat5e/5 Ethernet cable. · Works With VLC: Rather than using a decoder to view video over the network, you can connect your computer and use the VLC free, open source media player to decode and watch the video.

We've been using HDbaseT for our projector at church since the projector supports it natively. However, we regularly (1-2x a month) have days where the signal drops out for multiple seconds at a time. Based on my research, HDbaseT is highly susceptible to static electricity buildup, and the dropouts most frequently occurred with a full sanctuary of people moving around. We decided to try an IP-based solution, hoping to avoid rewiring with shielded cat6 or coax for SDI. The BirdDog Play worked well using NDI, but there was about a 300ms latency. I tried the Monopprice Blackbird system to see if the latency would improve, and it is about 100ms, over the same cable. Our sound board supports up to 85ms delay on each channel, and that's close enough to be unnoticeable when we play videos. We also have not had any video drop outs since switching to the Blackbird system.

I originally received Product #16048 which is the 100M (no splitter) version, not the 150M (with splitter) version. The first model I received currently sells for about $50 direct from Monoprice, and is not the $150 version. Also came with an RMA slip from the previous owner in the box, so maybe this was a legit mistake. Asked for a replacement, and received the correct product. Product I received as a replacement is #43624 which lines up price wise with the product sold on their website (Blackbird Pro H.265). This gave me the opportunity to test both devices. Product #16048 worked ok, but was very bandwidth heavy. It consumed about 50-60Mbit of the 100Mbit Ethernet connection (both models have 100M network interfaces). The new model #43624 produces much cleaner video (probably due to using the H.265 codec which is lossless), and consumes much less bandwidth (averaged around 8.5Mbps depending on the video source). Also see much more dramatic drops in bandwidth on mostly empty screens which I did not see with the previous model. My one complaint is the audio on model #43624 can be glitchy, it was not on #16048. Good news is this model allows for firmware upgrades, so maybe this will be fixed in the future. Since I plan to use this for a security system video monitor, audio is irrelevant, so I plan on keeping it. If you are running multiple screens, you probably won't care about this either as you will want to use the original source for audio anyway. Overall the h.265 model is the best choice for duplicating your video output to remote screens over an existing IP network.
