One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1 is truly a masterpiece, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a die-hard fan. This album legitimately feels like a follow-up to Holy Wood. As much as I enjoyed all the previous albums, nothing will top Portrait of An American Family to Holy Wood. The band's first four studio albums are masterpieces. However, this might be my fourth favorite album.
It has my favorite opening song since "GodeatGod" and perhaps my favorite album closing song since EAT ME, DRINK ME. At this point, I can't pinpoint a particular favorite song because the entire album is perfect. All killer, no filler here.
It's like a more cinematic version of Holy Wood/darker Mechanical Animals, with traces of fury from Antichrist Superstar, a dash of his last few albums, combining into a more evolved version of the traditional Manson sound that made us fall in love with his music. His voice sounds as good as it did in his prime. Nothing sounds rushed or like a first take recording. This album has beautiful layers of melodies, a good dose of aggression, and amazing guitar playing, with Tyler Bates tapping into his inner Daisy Berkowitz, capturing the soul of a Marilyn Manson guitar, with his own spin on writing, as heard in Funeral Without Applause, especially the outro.
The album covers a range of styles, including industrial metal, cinematic synth arrangements, goth glam rock, industrial punk rock, and new wave, capturing the essence of Marilyn Manson and beyond. It's objectively the best album since Holy Wood, with a more refined version of the last few albums. This is a Marilyn Manson with something to say again; a refreshed and focused Marilyn Manson, fueled by the hypocrisy of modern society, with a concept and story to tell, just like when he first started the band.

After surviving an attempted character assassination plot against him, Marilyn Manson has returned with his new album, One Asssassination Under God (Chapter 1). "The Last time they tried to kill me, I made a record called Holy Wood," he said. He as unfairly blamed for the Columbine shootings after it was incorrectly reported that the shooters were fans of his. Holy Wood was his reaction. As with Holy Wood in 2000, Manson has come back in 2024 stronger than ever and with a fighting record; a record that hits back at those who have attempted to destroy him, literally, figureatively, or both. "You can send away your firing squad. You're gonna need to behead me," He sings on "No Funeral Without Applause." Marilyn Manson is back, and he's not going anywhere without a fight.

As a long-time super fan, I respect his art to go into something with zero expectations. This record is truly personal (for him and the listener) and a thorough listening experience and doesn't tether itself in one place. Manson's first chapter of his return project has something that every fan appreciates, even if they somehow don't like the entire record. This is an excellent record because it's so accessible to someone who knows nothing about Manson or maybe used to have a different perception. I've been talking to first-time/newer fans of Manson as well, and overall, the response has been positive, so I am comfortable with recommending it as the first Marilyn Manson record you listen to if it's you first.

Phenomenal from beginning to end! The opening is like a familiar distorted dream. Lyrics on every song are powerful! The closing song, Sacrifice of the Mass is my favorite. Takes me back 24 years ago to Holywood, but with a more mature sound. Great packaging and artwork. Love the newspaper style lyrics layout! 10 out of 10! Support an amazing artist and buy this album! It will be the best purchase you make today!

I've been listening to Manson since 1998. And what I like about this album is its got a little bit of everything. What I mean is some of the songs remind you of angel
With the scabbed wings or golden age of grotesque or the vampire song off of eat me drink me or smells like children. I can't wait to hear the 2nd half of the album.

Not one bad track, Manson is truly back on form, the best he’s been since 2006. He’s writing from the heart and it shows, absolutely \m/ brilliant and I love it! Been a few years in the wilderness with the exception of a few tracks over the years and his concentrating somewhat on his acting. He and Tyler Bates have finally come to fruition in their musical partnership. Please bring on more like this and I’m already looking forward to Chapter 2.

Highlights: AS SICK AS THE SECRETS WITHIN, DEATH IS NOT A COSTUME, MEET ME IN PURGATORY & RAISE THE RED FLAG
Cheers
