In a nutshell - the umbrella is great. So glad we got it. We live on the Columbia River facing south/southwest across from a wildlife refuge, so we need some shade but I didn't want anything that would permanently block the view. Also, we're near the mouth of the famously windy Columbia Gorge, so any umbrella would have to be extra stable, even when closed (I've lost several tall, heavy potted plants). This umbrella hit every mark. 1. As you can see from the photos, when the umbrella is closed, it's out of view. 2. I can sit outside now and find shade any time of day by changing the angle of the umbrella. 3. My engineer husband laughed at me when I said we ought to move it to the side of the house to be safe when the big winds come. He said that the umbrella is going nowhere when closed. We had some 15 mph gusts the other day when I was sitting outside, and there was some minor movement at the top, but nothing to be concerned about. Assembly and operation: My son put it together on his own, pretty intuitively; however, he's 6'5". If you don't have the height, It would be pretty difficult without two people. Now that it's assembled, it's very easy for me to put up and down and change the angle. We got the moveable base because I wanted to be able to adjust the location to shade the table or the seating area. However, we filled it to the max with sand and water for maximum stability, so it's big and it's HEAVY. My son and husband can move it. I (a fit 135 lb, 5'5" woman) cannot. Customer service suggested we take some of the sand out and put a couple of sandbags on top instead. We'll do that before next season.

I purchased the Purple Leaf 10'x10' umbrella and the base with wheels for an outdoor patio and pizza oven area. Initially I had considered building a pergola or some other structure until I started seeing reviews for these large cantilevered umbrellas. I am 200% happy with this purchase and feel like it is the perfect compliment to my outdoor space. Here are the advantages for using this product (vs. a fixed pergola or awning): -The umbrella is easy to handle and once you get it installed in the base, one person can make the necessary height and location adjustments. -The build quality is good, and it has a number of base options to secure it either permanently or allow for easy movement from place to place. -The umbrella has a swivel feature to allow you to pivot the entire umbrella surface around for different locations or to provide cover during movement of the sun. -Much easier installation vs a fixed covering; once you have the base secured, it takes about 5 minutes to set this up, and can be expanded or retracted in seconds using the adjustment levers. You could spend days or weeks installing a pergola, might need to get permits, have to dig or modify hardscape, and ultimately you are stuck with a fixed solution vs. this umbrella which is portable. -Compared to ANY kind of fixed awning or pergola, this product is a much more competitive price including purchasing the more expensive adjustable base with wheels (which I recommend and review separately). -I had a minor issue with a shipper regarding the base, and contacted the company (Purple Leaf) who immediately responded to help with a resolution. As other reviews have noted, their customer service is highly responsive. A few things to consider before purchase: 1-Measure your space carefully. Not only are you looking at ground space, but you need to consider overhead areas (trees or wires) and how the umbrella will pivot in proximity to other structures or appliances like a BBQ or pizza oven chimney. I ended up getting a square umbrella as it just made more sense for the space I was trying to cover and was easier to calculate than a rectangular one. 2-If you go with the moveable/adjustable base (which I recommend), keep in mind that it is approx. 36" square so that will take up quite a bit of space. I built a small moveable bench to cover the base out of leftover Timbertech boards from a deck I built. That way people can sit on the bench vs. try not to trip over the 36" square base. 3- I cannot comment on the maximum wind this umbrella will withstand, but it is like a large parachute and even with the top vent, can move quite a bit in the wind. My advice is that when you have wind in the forecast, retract the umbrella and secure it with the retaining strap. I highly recommend this product, and the company (Purple Leaf) and would definitely purchase it again.

Like the title says, I almost cancelled my order because I honestly believed that we were not going to receive our umbrellas! Let's start from the beginning. We live in the south (Texas) and it can get HOT. What better way to beat the sun than with a pool? But what if that pool is in the sun all day? Let's solve that with a sun shade! Never mind that, those are terrible. UMBRELLAS THEN! We located Purple Leaf on Amazon and I found them to be quite impressive. I really liked the base design and the sheer weight of the base was noted (300 something lbs when loaded). I have seen umbrellas take flight and I wanted something truly sturdy. The umbrella itself looked great, heavy shade material, and they were in-stock! KIND OF... This is where it gets complicated... We ordered the Umbrellas, noticed that they were in-stock, and had prime available. Great! *FOUR WEEKS LATER* - Where is my SHADE?! It's been 100+ for a few days to be fully transparent. So I called Amazon. I was fully convinced that we were never going to receive our umbrellas. They were in forever 'pending shipping' / 'we will let you know mode'. So again, I called. Nice guy on the phone who stated that he understood why we were going to cancel... (nice conversation and we had confirmation of a cancelled order and pending refund) or so I thought... 24 hours later, I get a confirmation that my order was shipped.. What the fudge... Did I still want them? Was Amazon making me get them? Is it life's goal I now have these umbrellas?! Jeff saw my order and made it fulfilled?! 48 hours later, I had TWO large umbrellas. There they were. Just weeks late. I wondered, if I never made the call, 'would they have shipped?!'... That was irrelevant now. Setup: Setup was SUPER easy. You have to order the bases separately and it might be a pain to do so, but whatever, it's there thing. I ordered the: 'PURPLE LEAF Offset Umbrella Base Cantilever Umbrella Base, 32.3'' X 32.3''" Back to setup. The bases are all put together in a large box, clearly labeled and all you have to do is figure out where you want your base and remove the plastic packaging. Super simple. The base looks tough (very hard plastic) and does not appear it will fail. The ports for water & sand installment are on top of the base and are easily located. I purchased the Purple Leaf beige 10 x 12 umbrella and it arrived in a huge box. It was heavy in an awkward way. No high deal, carried it in with my wife and we got to opening the box. Oh how thankful we were when we noticed that they entire thing was assembled! just some plastic on the outside as a cover and then the inside. We did notice that it came with a heavy mounting base that secured to the above base. Good design. I now see why this thing costs so much. I went to my local Home Depot and purchased 200lbs of play sand. I wasn't going to break the bank on this one; each 50lb bag was 5.97 lol. I bought all the necessary sand and brought it home. I learned quick of the method... Open the base port WITHOUT the umbrella installed and begin filling sand. Then after some time, lift up the base so you can make the sand even. Do this a few times until each unit has consumed it's 50lbs of sand. Then add water. THEN attach the umbrella. Method to the madness. End: Once your base is heavy, install the umbrella. We opened the umbrella immediately and noticed that the base would not move; it had to weigh 300lbs or so with the water. Conclusion: They are worth every dime. They are mega umbrellas. I hated the wait. I was sure I was going to be umbrella-less forever. But now we have shade. The setup is easy. The material is great super heavy fabric (like an intense duffle bag material or better) and the crank system works like a charm. Would I buy them again? Yes. TL;DR: Wait is bad. Texas is hot. Umbrellas are good. Beer is best in shaded pool.

The quality of the umbrella and the supporting bars look perfect but the pins of one supporting bar of the umbrella popped out after couple of days of use when opening the umbrella. Pins are nailed and not screwed. Pins of the supporting bars seem to be the weakest point of the parasol. Is it worth buying an expensive parasol if it falls into parts in a regular use ?

After scouring multiple garden centres around my area (50mile ish radius), I was surprised at how expensive these have become. Anywhere from £700 to £1000 and in most cases you need to add a base to that as well which can also be upwards of £100. I prefer to actually see before I buy in most cases but I know a friend who highly recommended the brand even though he had a different product. I ordered it and was not disappointed. Yes I had to buy a base as well but all told my purchase was under £600 all in. The constructon of this is outstanding. Better than or at least equal to more expensive parasols in the said garden centres and mine included built in lighting as well. I bought the 100kg base, have only filled it water and its perfectly stable. None of those 4 x rediculously heavy concrete petal weights for me. Once the base is filled with water, its a 2 person parasol lift onto the base and the shroud does a nice job of tidying up the appearence. It rotates via a removable winding handle and the parasol opens via the same method. Dead easy to operate. Also, the tilt function is also easy via a trigger release. Just squeeze the trigger and just slide the handle up and down the shaft to where you want it. Release the trigger to relock it into the locating holes and its secure. Well thought out design. You get 2 handles, a cover (sadly basic and beige, our parasol is grey, and our furniture is also grey, but it does the job and a long collapsable rod to put it on and off ... yes you need it because its abut 10feet tall. For the winter I will buy a heavier duty cover as I have nowhere to store it during winter mths so after wd40ing the mechanisms for proctection, outside it will live. This is truly a great parasol, well made, heavy duty all aluminium framework (no rust) and really looks the business. Time will tell how long it will last but Im sure I can get a good few years out of this one. Highly recommended.
