Sure, I could nitpick and cite a couple of tracks as being underwhelming, but most of this album is packed with great song after song (okay, they are Tom Petty songs, but still ... ) that I can't bring myself to give it a lower rating than 5 stars. And these joyful cover versions deserve the acclaim, and your attention.
A few of the big names on here are favorites; tracks by the likes of Steve Earle, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and a live George Strait version. My least favorite might be the opening track by Chris Stapleton, an artist who I normally like a lot. But my sleeper pick for favorite track might be the version of "Here Comes My Girl" by Justin Moore (Amazon's track listing above is incorrect). His delivery is just so sincere and heartfelt, and so darn "country" that you can't help but love it! Kudos also to the Dierks Bentley version of "American Girl" and the Brothers Osborne's take on "I Won't Back Down." Turn it up!
Honestly, everyone will have their own favorites. I was initially wary of purchasing this CD, but I am VERY glad that I did. This one is a definite keeper!

I'm a lifelong Tom Petty fan who owns everything in his discography. So, I knew this tribute album by country artists would be great. I wasn't disappointed! Every track is brilliant in its own way. If you're like me, you'll be listening to this one often.

Excellent tribute album. Frequently these types of albums have a couple songs that are fine but the rest is filler. This CD rocks from the first track out. Great versions of Petty's songs. Just goes to show what a great song writer he was.

I've been chasing down tribute cds for a long time. Some are great for different reasons. If one of my favorite artists has been on the radio for decades, songs will get overplayed and lose some of their magic. When you hear that song on a tribute cd, it's like rediscovering a great song all over again. The song is great so you're safe there, but you hear it in a brand new way. It gives the tired tune a whole new life. Some are arranged note for note like the original and some can't help but picking up on the idiosyncrasies of the new artist. Meshing Petty with country players is genius, especially if you enjoy guitars. Going back to my search now.

I missed Tom Petty at New Orleans Jazz Fest. He died a few months later. I have since adopted the “Tom Petty Rule”: See an artist when you can It may be your last opportunity. This album reminds me of what I missed and enforces my “Tom Petty Rule”

What a pleasure it is to hear these great artists pay homage to the incomparable Tom Petty. You can hear the excitement in their voices to be covering these timeless songs. I grew up listening to his music and totally took it for granted at the time. Like it was completely normal and routine to hear these finely crafted songs. Never taking the time to really listen to the subtle lyrics and unique sound, assuming the sound and the man himself would be around forever. For the casual observer, such as myself, it is only upon reflection and revisiting the body of work does the genius become obvious. This tribute album makes the timeless quality of his music even more obvious as these artists breathe new life into these hit songs with such zeal and talent it feels like hearing them for the first time. A personal favorite is the hard-hitting rendition of Refugee by Wynonna Judd and Lainey Wilson.

This could have been fantastic with all the great songs Petty has had and all the great country artists out there. To me some of its good but mostly it’s just people trying to hard. Am disappointed but hopefully down the road someone will put the right songs with the right artists and you will have an incredible album for everyone’s listening pleasure
