these work great. the charging base is very nice. I like that you can add clip if wanted or remove if you do not. They are light weight/not heavy. 16 channels to choose from. When in a residential area with homes, hills, and buildings these will reach over a block. They work pretty well inside, when in a multi floor building that is brick we do pick up some static, although you can hear what everyone is saying. great tool for multiple employees, or persons to carry. I work for a medical facility with over 50 employees, and they do well, very few areas we have issues. this brand makes repeaters and other things to install if use is needed for more than the walkie itself offers. for the price these are a win and probably the best brand for a 10/15$ walkie talkie.

Retevis RT22 Walkie Talkies Rechargeable Hands Free 2 Way Radios Two-Way Radio 6 pack with 6 slot charger is amazing! It is one of the most useful things we ever bought for our property! There is little to no cellular service, and the power goes out a lot. We are in the mountains with 60 acres that covers several mountain peaks with valleys and is almost completely wooded. They are super easy to use. Just turn it on and it starts at the same channel when it was turned off. There's a nice feature where you can press the channel up/down buttons together and it locks the radio on that channel! That prevents accidentally switching channels when in your pocket or grabbing it. That has to be done every time you turn on the radio, but it is a great feature! If you have someone unfamiliar with radios, that's a great way to keep them on the correct channel. They have nice belt clips and the batteries last for days. The sound is crystal clear over our entire property. We can talk to each other just like we are standing next to each other! It doesn't matter whether there is a forest or hill between us - the reception is amazing! Even driving down a narrow, winding road we still get good reception when the radio is a mile away from the property, hills and trees in the way. The lithium ion batteries are great, because you can keep the radio in the charger whenever it isn't being used and it won't overcharge. The radios must be off when in the charger or they could overheat. After being on the property with livestock and crops, we had a lot of concerns about being able to contact each other for emergencies. It was also very inconvenient when away from the house because we wasted a lot of time going back and forth just to talk about necessary things throughout the day. We've been using these radios for over 5 months now, and they have given outstanding service without any issues. When people come to visit, we give them a radio so they can stay in touch with us. 5 starts plus for these radios, and they are worth much more than the regular price in time saved and the security of being able to make contact with family members in case of emergencies.

these are good radios for the price, here is my experience with them. one of the slots on the charger didn't work, retevis offered that i could return the charger and they would replace it and refund the shipping cost of the return, or if i chose to use an separate charger they would refund my 10.00. for how i planned on using these radios i chose the separate charging option. they quickly refunded my the 10.00 one of the radios wouldn't transmit, the PTT switch on the radio didn't work, again, i could return the one radio for replacement if i chose, but i intended to use them with external microphones so i waited to test the radio with the external mic. the radio works fine with the external mic. i bought the programming cord so i could turn on the alarm function, i had a small problem with windows trying to install the USB driver, but that was more of an issue with windows than with the programming cable. if the programming cable won't read the radio you may need to go into your device manager, find the usb/serial cable device and change the com port that the cable reads/writes from. retevis has answered all of my questions quickly and clearly. there have been a couple bumps but they were worked out and i will shortly be buying another 23 radios to fill out the team. oh one thing i should note, the "emergency alarm" they note isn't a translation error. it's not a "hey everyone, pay attention i'm gonna say something important" button it's more of an "OH MY GOD I"M BLEEDING TO DEATH CALL AN AMBULANCE!!!" button. this alarm is very loud, very obnoxious and is a toggle, meaning you hold the button to turn it on, then it stays on until the button is pressed again to turn it off. thankfully it doesn't come armed out of the box and requires programming to turn it on, or half of my staff wouldn't be allowed to touch the radios.

This is possibly the best purchase I've ever made on Amazon. I bought them for skiing. We go to Sugar Bowl and can typically communicate at great distances with high quality. For $15, it won't break the bank if your kids lose one of them. They are also relatively small for what's available in the market. No frills, no screen, and also no problems. We went with the corded charger first, and they worked great. Then we bought the charger base, and it was much faster and better. It's so simple and yet so well designed. We bought the second set, because our friends were jealous and we needed more radios at the cabin. Our friends had a high end Motorola, and eventually agreed this was better at 1/10 of the price. At these prices, I'm sure there are some duds, but we have two sets and they both work without any problems. Battery life seems very impressive. They are constantly left on all night and then they seem to still work the same day. And did I mention they are small. You can clip it to a backpack, but most of our kids put them in a ski jacket pocket. Worked very well for cross country skiing, so I imagine they would be great for hiking.
