We are heading into our third year in what is probably the worst apartment complex in our area. The professional pest control they employ is, I presume, the cheapest they can find; their spotty visits are basically pointless. After two years of fighting roaches (and the occasional mouse) in our fourth floor unit, we suspected that we would not escape a bedbug invasion forever. It finally hit not long ago, going mostly untreated for a couple of weeks because we could not afford to take harsher measures than vigorous vacuuming and frequent washing of the bedding. (We've been stuck in this pit of an apartment complex for a reason.) When we could finally spare the funds, I considered cheaper options for a bedbug encasement, but decided that it was worth it to me to spring for higher quality. I have not been disappointed. After soaking the harborage area I found in the box spring with Harris Toughest Bed Bug Killer, Gallon Spray, I put this cover into place. The nightly attacks have stopped suddenly. I believe neither my husband nor I have gotten fresh bites since, despite the alarming number of bugs at various stages I found in our box spring. I have a response to the several pictures of bedbug feces clustered around the zipper closure for this and the matching mattress cover. I am not a pest professional and this is the first time I've had to deal with the mini-menace, but I would guess, based on what I've seen, that those bugs are not entering or exiting the box spring, but coming from elsewhere in the room and clustering around the zipper closure because it's as close as they are going to get to a hiding place on this cover. Remember that bedbugs are insidious; treat the whole room/house with extreme prejudice or an undiscovered nest will simply replenish the population. Everything I read says that you have to continue treating until it is completely certain that there are no more viable bugs. Even before I was able to purchase this item, I chose to wash everything on the bed every two days, spraying--at a minimum--the mattress, box spring, and baseboards with a small canister of poison that I bought for the interim. I continued this treatment schedule after adding the SafeRest cover until the bites had almost all healed and could not be mistaken for new ones. I plan to move to once a week at this point, and I'll see how I feel about it when my gallon of poison runs out. Regardless, I credit this encasement with part of the success we have had.

I installed this encasement on my box springs, along with the SafeRest mattress encasement, as a preventative measure and deterrent*, so I can't speak directly to how well these keep bed bugs in or out. What I can say is the quality is far superior to the original box spring encasement I purchased (no names, comes in orange packaging). That one was much more cheap and 'plastic-y' feeling and got brittle pretty quickly, which is a problem you don't want to have with an encasement. The SafeRest zipper is very tight and gave me no problems, and the Velcro closure at the end is a good added measure. I did take the measures of softening the metal edges of my bed frame with duct tape to prevent tears and duct taped the corners of the encasement to stop my cats from scratching it, my bed skirt covers that up. The quality seems very good, no tearing, flexible, soft and durable material. Opens on three sides to install, which I did no my own. I just cleaned my floors well, laid the encasement down and open, placed the box spring on top, flipped the top over and zipped it up. Don't try to put the encasement on with the box spring standing on edge or on end if you're doing it alone, it will be an exercise in futility. I work at a college and, because of the dorms, we've been educated about bed bugs. Because of this I might be a bit more cautious than many, but with bed bugs on the rise, I think these are a generally good idea --- especially in urban areas where your'e sharing cabs, trains and buses with the public. Anyone can bring them into a home, bed bugs don't care where you live or how much money you make. While the numbers are still on the human side (I believe something like 20% of households in the US either have had bed bugs or know someone first hand who has had bed bugs), once they're in your home the odds flip, so some forethought can be a good thing. *As with all encasements, you should know that these won't repel bed bugs, it will just prevent them from taking up residence in their favorite place, which is your bed and, most commonly, your box springs.

Imagine how horrified I was to move into an apartment after selling my house, only to have bedbugs turn up! The inspector couldn’t find any evidence of infestation other than the live one I found, so we still don’t know if it was the apartment, the movers, or the used moving boxes my Realtor kindly gave me. Nevertheless, part of the protocol for eliminating them is to use full encasements for the mattress and box springs if I don’t want to throw them out. There was no sign of bugs on them, so I went for the encasements. I have a king size bed with the usual split box springs, so I had to buy three encasements altogether. FYI, an eastern king split box spring is equal to two twin extra longs. Just saying. I posted a review for the mattress encasement, which was really more important on a comfort level, but a box encasement is important, too. These are tightly woven, lab tested, and if there are any residual critters, they are trapped inside until they die. MWAHAHAHA!!! Oops! That was evil. But that's how I feel about the bugs. I hope I'm the apex predator here. Oops! Back to business... the biggest issue I had against encasements was getting them installed by myself. I’m just a 50-something short chick. I would have appreciated some tips and tricks included with the package, but I was on my own. I struggled with the first one, but the second one was easier having learned from my mistakes. Certainly in the testing process they tested the best way to put the darn thing on your bed. Right? If not, they should have. Again, the value of this is in the dust, allergen, bug properties. The whole thing is tightly woven fabric to keep the heebie jeebies out. Given how long you will keep your bed, and how long this will extend its life, plus that it doesn’t rustle, crackle, crinkle, etc., it’s worth the price.

Great price, high quality, delivered fast. Allowed us to protect our box spring after steaming it, which gave us tremendous peace of mind with a bedbug scare in our building. The zipper goes all the way around the cover, which makes it MUCH easier to install than most, and the fabric is smooth and strong. Perfect fit for the lower profile box springs (the ones that come with extra-deep mattresses). Would definitely purchase from this seller again.

It doesnt crinkle, doesnt make noise. Just a good thick protection for the mattresses with a good terry cotton top. It looks like it will last for some time, even the zipper - unlike some more expensive ones that I had in the past where the zipper broke instantly and were garbage made in china. Would definitely buy again and recommend this one!
