This is NOT A CARRY-ON contrary to the description. This luggage is just short of 2 feet tall, 2 feet wide, and 1 foot thick. I notice the dimensions are now included in the text description, but don't be misled by the size designation which still says CARRY-ON as of this writing. It is not a carry-on as defined by the airline industry. This luggage will need to go into checked baggage at the airport. Putting that issue aside, this is a beautiful piece of Samsonite luggage. Mine is the Cypress Green color which makes it stand out from most other luggage making it easier to spot at baggage claim in the airport. The luggage is a traditional hard shell case which is thin but durable and typical of most quality luggage products that employ a hard shell. The shell resists scratches and dings that inevitably occur during transport. The suitcase is held closed with a zipper with two tabs that zip from the back on each side and around to the front where the zipper tabs are secured in a locking latch. The locking latch uses a 3 digit code to unlock or can be opened with a TSA master key by airport personnel. You can set the lock to any 3 digit code you prefer. When zipped open, the luggage can lay fully flat allowing full access to both halves for packing and unpacking. The suitcase has a separate zipper around the circumference of the luggage that allows the luggage to expand a few inches thicker to allow additional space for more contents if you wish. This allows for packing a bit more without compressing everything. I like the wheels on this unit because they have rubber treads that roll better than hard plastic wheels on some luggage. The extendable handle is adequate, with aluminum tubular bars that support the handle at a height you can choose from four settings. The handle release button requires a firm push to release the handle. I had no problem with it, but my wife found it slightly annoying to have to press so firmly. The luggage glides smoothly on its wheels when guided with the extended handle. There are two other grip handles, one on the front and one on the end, for lifting the luggage. Inside this luggage has lots of zippered areas that work to help keep your belongings in place. There are plenty of zippered pouches for specialty items and damp items. There is one coat hanger loop for supporting hangers, and a similar loop to support an air tag or other locator device. Overall, a nice quality piece of luggage, attractive looking, with typical features and functions of similar quality bags. This one includes the Samsonite name which I have always respected for quality products.

I was expecting quality from a name like Samsonite and they did not disappoint. The wheels move across the floor like a whisper. The handle extends with height adjustments and locks flush when not in use. I love the fold out pocket for stowing a 15" laptop and a tablet, this is a feature that most hard sided bags lack, so this feature really stands out. The lining inside is well finished and looks top notch. If I was forced to find a criticism it would be that this is a bit heavier than a nylon bag, so if you struggle to lift your bag into the overhead, this might not be the bag for you. It is nearly 10 pounds empty. Also be aware that the pop-out front panel/pocket, retracts back into the bag and leaves the front flat, so technically it is accessible internal space, unlike nylon bag where the pockets tend to puff out. This could be seen as either a pro or con, for it leaves less space within the bag when it is being packed, but it also means the gate agent is less likely to see this as an oversized puffed out bag, and subject you to the sizer and insist on gate checking it. Now for the biggest pros for me: Durability and maneuverability; the outershell feels very durable, and it is well balanced and glides very easily on the wheels. Should you decide to check it (or have to check it), this bag is much more likely to hold up to abuse. Where a sharp edge might rip into a nylon bag, this bag would more than likely just come away with a scratch. It is made of recycled bottles, so is that flexible dull finished plastic where scratches or less likely to be noticed. Overall this is a bag I'm excited to travel with, and so I'm rating a full 5 stars. Should I experience any issues other than normal wear and tear, I would expect Samsonite to be around to honor the 10-year limited warranty. But should I run into issue while I put it thru its paces, I will return and report them here.
