All I can say is that you will have very green grass in a very short period of time. This product works. BUT, I will tell you that if your grass is not that green, there may be other deficiencies. Id recommend that you do a soil test to see exactly what you need for your soil. Use this product with other scotts or other brands to increase the strength and color of your grass.

So far I think this works great on my yard. My yard has always been neglected all these years and recently this year I wanted to have a nice green yard. My yard is a mix of bermuda and St Agustine grass. The bermuda seems to have been taking off this year with the good rain we had in Spring. But the bermuda has always been a light color green. Same goes for my St Augustine under the tree area. Grass always looks like a pale color green even with a lot of watering. Followed the instructions on the bag (not even sure if I had my cheap spreader on the correct setting) and applied it to my yard early in the morning. I did a good water in and the next day I could say my grass was looking much greener! Some of the light color patches actually looked green... Maybe it was my eyes playing tricks or placebo effect, grass sure looks much better. Now 4 days in and I have to say my yard has the greenest grass on the block! While it's not a deep rich green that I was hoping for, but I'm sure it's just the grass type that I have. Also the bermuda seems to have taken off with the runners spreading and covering the bare spot patches in my yard since I applied the Scott's Green Max So far I'm very impressed and satisfied with the results. My lawn was never really taken care of and I've never used any fertilizer/products till now. Never done a soil test. I'm sure my lawn was missing a lot of nutrients needed for a good lawn. Thought I give this a try and boy am I happy with the results without having to spend so much.

It does actually work at greening up grass by feeding it nutrients and iron, however, the bag is definitely not good for 40,000 sq ft. If your yard is around that size you’d ideally want at least 2 or 3 bags for coverage. I used a Scott’s broadcast push spreader, dialed to the instructed settings, however it did not distribute the fertilizer evenly and you can clearly see the lines where I walked with the spreader. I would gladly recommend this product, but I would also recommend using a better broadcast spreader and purchasing more than what the bag claims to cover.

I am extremely pleased with this product. I ordered the Scott’s Wiz spreader to go with it and getting it applied was super easy. I also like that per the instructions you can still walk on the lawn after applying if necessary. We had our lawn installed last year but due to scheduling it was rough because we had to get it installed at the hottest point in the summer. Ultimately, we were about to get it in a good state and it stayed that way for several months and stayed green until around December which is amazing, but Fescue is like that. As you can see from the first two pictures from around Easter the lawn was thin and patchy and didn’t look great. The next three are from June and it looks beautiful. Not only did the Scott’s help stimulate growth in the patchy spots, it also is giving the grass that luscious deep green color. It also proved to be versatile, as I seemed to not get even distribution on my first run which caused a diagonal patch of the lawn to still be thin and patchy as the rest of the lawn started to look great. I was able to supply additional product in the spotty areas and those filled in too. We did have quite a bit of rain as well after my first application which may have helped. The only critique I have is the whole 3 day thing, that was not my experience, it took about 2 weeks from application to get where it is in the picture now, though I will say the areas I hit on my second application did seem to fill in much faster, around 4-5 days. Lastly, the area I was working was relatively small and I used a half a bag, so for those that have larger yards you may need multiple bags. As far as application, I’d recommend being conservative initially since you can always go back and fill things in. I’m a believer, the stuff works.

I’ve used Scotts Green Max Lawn Food for a full season, and while it has some great benefits, there are a few drawbacks worth noting. Here’s my honest review: Key Facts & Features: ✅ Fast-Acting Formula – The product promises visible greening in just 3 days, and I did see improvement within that time frame. The added iron supplement helps boost color, making the grass look healthier. ✅ Covers 5,000 sq. ft. – One bag is sufficient for small to mid-sized lawns, making it a good value if you don’t have a large yard. ✅ Dual-Purpose Formula – Not only does it feed the grass, but the added iron also helps strengthen roots, leading to more durable turf over time. Drawbacks & Considerations: ⚠️ Risk of Lawn Burn – The formula is high in iron, which can stain concrete and hardscapes if not carefully applied. Some users (myself included) also noticed patchy burn spots when applied unevenly or during hot weather. ⚠️ Short-Term Results – While the quick greening effect is impressive, the long-term nourishment could be better. After a few weeks, my lawn started losing its deep green color, requiring reapplication. ⚠️ Strong Odor – The fertilizer has a noticeable smell that lingers for a day or two after application, which might be unpleasant for some users. Final Verdict: Scotts Green Max Lawn Food is a solid choice if you need a quick green-up for your lawn, but it requires careful application to avoid burn spots and staining. For long-term results, additional treatments may be necessary. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
