For the money this is a great product, especially for overseeding. I needed to put down some topsoil in some parts of my yard which grass just has significant problems growing in due to the clay that makes up the majority of the soil where I live. By using this product I'm starting to see the little grasses pop-up from underneath the top-soil and my hope is they will be able to become more established with the overall make up of the different soils. So far so good, grass is picky, but it seems to be taking well for now!

As a homeowner, I've always aimed for the perfect lawn, and the Scotts Turf Builder THICK'R LAWN Grass Seed, Fertilizer, and Soil Improver has made that goal achievable. This 40 lbs. bag covers an impressive 4,000 sq. ft., offering a comprehensive solution for lawn care that's hard to beat. First, what sets this product apart is its multifunctionality. It combines grass seed, fertilizer, and soil improver all in one, simplifying the lawn care process. It's suitable for both sunny and shaded areas, making it versatile for various parts of your lawn. The grass seed component is impressive. It's a mix of premium grass varieties that have thrived in my yard, filling in patches and thin spots, creating a lush, green carpet of grass. I was thrilled to see how quickly the grass began to grow and how much thicker and healthier it looked within a few weeks. The fertilizer and soil improver are equally essential. They nourish existing grass and provide a rich foundation for new growth. My lawn's color improved noticeably, and it became more resilient to foot traffic and environmental stressors. Application is straightforward, thanks to the detailed instructions on the bag. I used a spreader, and it distributed the product evenly. Watering it in afterward helps activate the seeds and nutrients effectively. I appreciate that this product is backed by Scotts, a trusted name in lawn care. It's clear they've invested in research and development to create a formula that works wonders. While the initial cost might seem higher than just grass seed alone, the convenience and results it delivers are well worth it. In summary, Scotts Turf Builder THICK'R LAWN is a game-changer for anyone seeking a thick, healthy lawn. It's efficient, easy to use, and delivers remarkable results. If you're looking to transform your lawn, whether in the sun or shade, this product is the answer you've been waiting for. I couldn't be happier with the results, and I highly recommend it to all lawn enthusiasts.

I used this product for the 3rd time this spring. I got the best results this last time by taking the following steps: 1. I had a moss problem in my yard so about 4-6 weeks before I used Scotts Turf builder with moss control. This made a lot of the moss try up. 2. Mow the grass at a lower setting with a bag to remove clippings from the lawn. I cut grass around 2 inches in height. 3. I used the Sun Joe Dethatcher. I dethatched vertically and then scarified horizontally this is two different attachments (Dethatcher has the tines and the scarifier has blades and digs deeper). This improves the seed to soil contact by removing the dead matter in the lawn. It also creates these little trenches in the soil and the seeds land in them. It ripped out most of the moss that was preventing the grass from filling in. Honestly, at this point I was worried because the lawn looks pretty muddy and awful, this is to be expected. 4. I had some compost so I spread that in the patchy areas with a rake. 5. My yard is rather shaded and the Thick R Lawn is about 11% seed, I was worried this wouldn't be enough. I chose to add some extra seed in the shady areas using a dense shad mix in the extra patchy areas. I used a hand spreader to put this down first. 6. I put down the Scott's Thick R Lawn with my drop spreader. This way the fertilizer has seed and it will also help the dense shade mix grow. I think used the back end of the rake to gently rake the seed into the soil. 7. I used a Four Zone Sprinkler timer and scheduled it to water for 10 minutes 3 times a day for three weeks. That last week, it really started to come in and the yard is looking great. Try to wait at least two weeks before cutting the grass and mow at a high setting if you do. 8. After the three weeks when the grass is coming in, you can water on a normal schedule. Something like 30 minutes of watering every three days. This will help the grass roots go deeper to get water instead of it always expecting there to be water right at the surface. I hope this review helps. I really struggled with getting the grass to come in where it's shady and mossy until I did this.

Product only works on lawn grass, does not actually build Astroturf, please advise

Sort of works. Careful prep and high-quality soil yielded disappointing results. Scraggly. Dies easily.

Not the greatest stuff but it works. Definitely not for the lawn care nuts but it works and will make your grass look better. I've seen some reports of there being weed seed included but I have not had that experience.
